Photo Editing Software

I should probably ask this over on the photography board, but I'm afraid the people that hang out over there are too high-tech for me. Looking for suggestions for photo editing software. Nothing real basic, but certainly nothing along the lines of Photoshop. Something kind of middle of the road that doesn't have a high learning curve, but allows me to do some fun things. One thing I've seen is turning a picture all black and white except for maybe a dress on a little girl. Maybe I'm wrong and really would need some top of the line product. I just want to add a little sharpness or pizzazz to my pictures. Any suggestions?

I would look at Photoshop Elements- I have version 2.3 I think on my computer(really old) and it has good instructions and eassy buttons to push to do things like that.

You can download Picasa for free - I'm not very good with it, I must admit  I have the CM photo software but so far I've not really spent a lot of time on it, just organised photos. But I think there's editing options too.

I've had PhotoElements 6.0 on my computer for several years but just started to use it. I bought the Missing Manual. It's been pretty helpful. I'm not at all technical, but the MM tells me right where to click for whatever effects.

Missing Manual? What's that?

EeyoreLand I would definitely suggest that you download the FREE shutterfly software.

You can download it here: http://www.brothersoft.com/shutterfly-studio-84531.html

You do not have to print photos with Shutterfly to use it and it sure comes in handy for quick fixes and can even do auto color correct and add some effects like sepia and b/w. You can also create collages using their templates and then save the whole thing as a jpg to print at a local store or on your own printer. I love it for quick changes I need to make so that I don't have to fire up photoshop or photoshop elements. Plus, it's free. The dress effect that you are referring to will probably require a photoshop product of some kind, but I like the Shutterfly software for quick crops and effects.

I'd say to never hesitate asking anything on the Photography board. Everyone is real cool; and there are some very beginners there, as well as more experienced people. Good luck in your search!!! :thumbsup2

I agree with this, they are all very nice! I asked for some help finding a tutorial to fix a photo, one person edited and fixed it for me instead! :goodvibes

Edit: Just checked out your blog... amazing!!! I love your photos! :)

Missing Manual? What's that?

The Missing Manual is a book purchased separately that explains the software step by step. Missing Manuals are available for all sorts of different software products. It's an easy to understand, step by step layout.

I like photoshop elements, although I have picassa on my computer, I never use it.

There's a magzine on the stands for about $15 - Focus guide Photoshop - I've found very helpful in understanding how to use elements.

I too am looking to learn how to do more with my digital pics. Right now all I do is resize. Will photoshop elements let me crop people and things out of photos? Can I add people to the photos? I have been a traditional scrapper but would like to get into digital.
