Photo Contests - Size Limitations?

I've noticed that in both of the current photo contest polls, there are several photos exceeding the limitation of 800x600 as stated in the rules. I'm fine with any sizes but just wanted to make sure we are consistent and fair to all entrants.

I certainly appreciate the effort and amount of time put into running these contests.

I noticed this too. Some are much bigger than they are supposed to be. I also saw one that is something like 800x602. How does that happen?

Posting a larger picture shows more detail, etc that the smaller photos can't show as well. The usual size limit set in place by andromeda was 800x600 maximum size. I think this was also due to the fact that she stored the images on her personal computer for the winning photos. That kept the file size smaller so her hard drive space wouldn't be compromised. That's how I understood it anyways.

Not a dumb question at all. I think that the eye is drawn more to a larger picture and might influence someone's vote unintentionally. Not that someone is voting based on size but rather the result of seeing more detail than you would see in a picture at 800x600. Also, 800x600 is probably still more prevalent than we might think and many people may not have the larger sizes available. Just a thought.

And, as AndrewWG mentioned, it makes the contest more manageable when dealing with so many files.

The rules are unchanged since last year (if it ain't broke don't fix it). The size rule serves a few purposes. Ensuring everyone has the same access to detail as some have mentioned is one. But it also keeps the page to a reasonable load time, we all don't have T-1's you know.
