Photo CDs

You use your stateroom key like you would use a Photopass. They also have facial recognition.

When you first board, get your whole group in the boarding photo, that is what starts the facial recognition. Try to swipe the same stateroom when taking pictures throughout the cruise, since the CD is meant for just one stateroom (but you might be able to combine two if you have a family traveling together, you have to ask/beg at Shutters).

Throughout the trip, check the kiosks to make sure your photos are showing on your account. You might find strangers because of facial recognition, but you can delete them. If you are missing a photo, find the printed version in Shutters (they still print them) and give it to the CM at the desk with your stateroom number and ask them to add it.

They have Shutters photographers at various events, but mainly they have staged photographs with different backgrounds each evening. Because we bought the photo CD, we did a lot of extra photos like jumping ones, casual ones, etc. We felt like we got professional studio type photos without paying a sitting fee.

Shutters has an online release, so you can print the photos when you get home, or use them in slide shows, etc. Our holiday card has been a Shutters photo the past few years. Much easier to carry home a CD than a bunch of printed photos.

If you are on a special cruise like the Med or Baltics, they have Shutters photographers at the main tourist stops (but remember to take off your DCL stickers, we forgot and they look silly!).

You cannot get borders on the DCL photo CDs like you can with Photopass because you get it when you leave the ship.

You can purchases packages of 5x7 and 8x10 printed photos. Just be careful choosing sizes, because they add a lot of specialty borders (which you cannot get on the photo CD). If you buy a package and don't use it all you can get a refund. If you want to upgrade it during the cruise, you can do that as well.

I tried glancing through the thread, but other than a few early posts, I didn't see confirmation on B2Bs. Has anybody purchased the CD on a back to back? If so, did you have to pay for both CDs or can they be combined into one, lower cost, CD.

Thanks!

Photo sizes are 6x8 ($12.95) and 8x10 ($19.95).

Thanks for the info. The price seems a bit steep, especially when compared to PhotoPass but photos are typically my main travel souvenir.

We'll see what I end up doing but at least it's good to know in advance what the prices are so I can budget accordingly.

Hey has anyone done a B2B and bought the CD....wonder if we can get a deal like the price of 7 nt's cause that is what we will be on...I guess I will send DCL an email and find out!

We did it for the TA repo and thought it was worth the price we paid (keeping in mind, DH is a cast member, so we got a 35% discount). We had a large group with us (3 cabins altogether). The system uses facial recognition so that any time a member of our cabin was in the photograph it would wind up on the CD. Given the 2 week time frame and the number of people we had and number of pictures we wanted, $400 did not seem outrageous. We also took advantage of one of the half price photo packages for photos we wanted that did not include members of our cabin or great shots that we wanted 8x10 proofs- ie family photos). Altogether, we had over 300 digital photos!

In comparison, we paid over $200 for photos on our last NCL cruise and got maybe 15 photos and only ONE digital copy.

Ginamarie - if you don't mind me asking, was $400 the cost of the Photo CD before your DH's CM discount? :flower3:

We're doing the WBTA and this would help me budget/convince DH that we need to buy photos on this cruise, too. :rolleyes1

$400 was the cost before the discount. I think it's worthwhile for a two week cruise like you'll be on. We had photopass photographers along on our tours as well as on the ship, so we got wonderful photos of our family in Seville and Madiera all included in the photopass. I also thought that the half-price photo package was a great value because the prints can be so expensive otherwise.

Thank you so much for the fast reply. That really is a good deal for 2 weeks worth of photos! :goodvibes

I didn't realise that the ship's photographers are now taking photos of guests on DCL excursions. They were out and about on our WBPC cruise in May 2008, but only taking shots of the scenery/places of interest.

We were on the WBPC too and I'd forgotten about the photopass photographers going off of the ship then, but you're right. This was a lot more useful!

Please do not discuss any discounts cast members may get. This is info that is for CM's only and should not be discussed in a public forum.

I see several people have mentioned the photo release (for copyright purposes). Will Shutters sign this?
Thanks!

FYI - the price for the CD for the 11 night Holiday Southern Caribbean cruise was also $399.95. This may be their maximum price for any cruise of 7 days or longer.

Also, not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but the CD must be ordered before 12:01 am on the last day of the cruise.

Wow, I am actually really excited about this. We, or should I say "I" usually spend around $400 on pictures. Now I can actually have the ALL!!! Does anyone know if it is just the raw image, or does the CD have all the pretty boarders?

I always buy the photo pass CD at Disney - but I purchase it after I get home and put all the boarders on my pictures before I purchase. I don't know if it works the same way. I am only here reading because I am planning my first cruse and am trying to find the answers to all my questions.:)

The cruise ship does not have photospass. They have a different company and you buy (expensive) pictures from them or an expensive CD. ($400.00) No you can't go home and add borders.
Just so you know as well. that if you preorder you photopass CD at Disney it's cheaper as well. ($99.95) as opposed to purchasing it after you get home ($149.95)

I am hoping that the photo CD will be the same amount for the Panama Canal cruise. I loved the photo CD on the WBTA and have budgeted for this again.

We will buy a PhotoPass CD from our WDW portion of the trip. If we also buy a Shutters CD, couldn't we download a few of those photos and then use the PhotoPass site to add some Disney borders? I know they wouldn't be the same borders as what's available on the ship, but it would at least give us a little Disney touch.

I don't think any pictures you uplaod to the Disney site are included on the CD. You just have the option to buy a print. AT least last I knew, that was how it was.
