Photo Backpack?

I have the Kata 3n1 which is both a sling bag and a backpack. Most of the time I use it as a backpack because it's just more comfortable for me to carry it that way.

I find that my camera is usually not in my bag anyway so I don't need the quick access.

The Kata also has a rain cover that works very well. The only time I've ever used it was when we were caught in a downpour at POR and it kept everything dry. It's nice to have when you're you're at WDW and those storms pop up.

Enjoy your trip! We've celebrated DD7's birthday twice at WDW and we really had a great time both years.:thumbsup2

I have a backpack and although I don't have a sling, have a shoulder bag. I bought the bag after the backpack. I love the backpack for schlepping everything around and storage, but for easy access it wasn't a good choice for me. I want to have my lenses accessible and don't like having to stop and put down the backpack every time I needed to change. For static shoots I use the backpack. For Disney, zoos, things like that, the bag. The downside of the bag is that I have to pick and choose what goes with, and it doesn't hold my tripod. For easy grab and go, accessibility, and ease of camera stowage - the bag. I'm guessing the sling would be similar. Another upside of the bag, I can stow it IN a rollaround carryon, so that leaves me room for my laptop backpack as carryon #2, but keeps my camera and lenses WITH me for travel.

I started with a back pack, moved to a sling, then then went to a messager style bag... They all have pluses and minuses... It's all in what's comfortable to you.

This is the bag I use for travel also. Slings just are not comfortable for me to wear. But, I love the easy side access. The Kata bag is the best of both. I always wear it as a backpack and just drop a strap and swing it around to access my gear on the go. It also has a nice little storage area on top.

I just got back from WDW with a digitall rebel XSi (equivalent to the 450 I believe) and a Lowepro slingshot 100. It worked quite well and was as comfortable as any backpack I've owned. The slide & open routine worked out well for me as I was able to get the camera out quickly and safely when the occasion arose. I'm 100% glad I bought it. It carried the camera, kit lens, nifty fifty and camcorder along with assorted spare batteries, memory, and even a poncho.

Having said all that, I'm not sure it's the ideal bag for everyday toting the camera - but it was fantastic for being on the go at Disney.

Good luck with your decision making, choosing a bag is tough!

Oh and another question...the slingshot back is all-weather, so it has a pull out rain cover. Do I need that?

I have the Slingshot 100, worked great for me a WDW. As to the rain cover, when it rained on us at MNSSHP, I needed it.

I have a sling now and want to get a backpack. I've found after a day at Disney my right shoulder is sore. I want to split the weight over both shoulders.

This is great to hear everyone's feedback on bags. I'm seriously considering getting a new one soon. All I currently have is a shoulder bag I bought at walmart..... Because it was cheap. But it's kinda ugly; and now the metal clasps are starting to squeak against the metal loops. That's what's really driving me to look for a new bag (we all have our pet peeves).

I don't have too much gear either. Currently, it's just my camera and a couple of other small accesories/backups; no extra lenses.

I brought this subject up a few weeks ago and quickly decided on the slingshot. The Kata style would be neat, but I really like how this bag feels. Of course it has not gone through a WDW Trial yet, but it has made it through several parties an a few short hikes. I like its versatility and the way the compartmens work.

When I went to the smokie mtns back in october I bought myself a backpack style. It fit my 7-200 connected to my 40D plus held all my lens that I might need while hiking plus camcorder, extra batteries, DV tape, plus room for a bottle or beverage can and a small bag of snacks. It will be my carry on bag of choice for when ever i go long distance trips.

Now...having said that. Its def not what I use for a short day at local park or such. Its simply too much bag. I currently use a small shoulder bag that will hold my 70-200 and my 17-50 connected to my 40D.
I will prob see if I can find a sling that will hold my 40D connected to the 70-200

Does anyone have or use a Tenba Shootout backpack.Have an upcomong trip and time to get a bag that will hold all my stuff.THey look like they are built pretty good. TIA

check out the naneu pro bags, they are awesome,

I bought a rolling backpack from them 2 years ago, a year ago one of the wheels broke, so I emailed them and asked if it was possible to get a replacement wheel,

they told me their bags have a lifetime warranty, and said if I mailed the bag back to them they would send me a replacement, as luck would have it my bag had been discontinued, so they sent me the newer/better replacement, it wasn't even on their website yet, Supposedly I got the very first one in the USA I have the U 220

I was just at our local pro camera shop this morning. Looked at the Tenba Shootoutm Medium Daypack bags. They are very solidly built but seemed a bit overpriced to me. It has a single compartment for all lenses and such. The outside pockets extend out significantly (which is nice as you collect stuff over the day). It was priced there at $170, Amazon has it for $190.

I also looked at the Potare bag. It's about the same size, holds about the same amount. The main differences are that lenses and such are in 2 sections, it's not expandable, it also holds a laptop, and it's about half the price. It was priced there at $90, Amazon has it for $100.

I ordered the Fastpack 100 today and can't wait for it to arrive. I think the sling is cool, but the backpack will probably work better for me now for trips to the World, zoo, etc. Thanks for your help!

The age old question sling or backpack decisions, decisions, decisions :confused3.You will like the LowePro bag but in due time you will see a bag that will better fit your needs or wants :goodvibes. The EAS will strike when you least expect it.I just bought a Tenba Shootout to haul all my stuff around but I mainly use a Domke F2 shoulder bag for the parks.their like shoes nobody can just have one.Congrats on your purchase.

I'm really picky, has to be fashionable is one of the most important to me. Jill e makes great bags. They look like purses-good for women may not be liked my men tho :rotfl2:

When I carried the Slingshot 200, I had to tighten the straps so much in order to make it comfortable that I couldn't swing it around to get to my gear, which kind of defeated the purpose. I now carry a Kata backpack and find it much more comfy.

I had a Sling for the last two year but it was just too much on my shoulder after 4+ hours. The size and convenience were nice but if your using it for an extended amount of time IMO they aren't worth it.

I wanted a Backpack so I opted for a Lowpro Flipside 300.

With the Flipside, is it somewhat easy to access your camera if you're standing???? Or do you have to sit it down. I was looking into those the other day, but wasn't sure that I would like how the bag opens.

Its very easy to access your camera while standing. I didn't like the way it opened either but the more I thought about it I realized I use my camera standing 99% more than sitting so it was an easy choice.
