Photo Assignment: Sept '06 - Sports/Action

This is not so much an action shot as it is just one of my favorites. They were warming up and I had to laugh, as dd has her "game face" on. She looks like such a little snot!! She's really a smiley, laughing kid, but when she hits the arena she gets this real serious look! I played with this photo a bit, had to edit out a head off of her hip from a guy who sat right next to her in a chair, then I played with a soft focus filter a bit. I'm learning that the filters in PSE4 are really cool - I love the poster edge one. The trick is finding the right photo for the filter.

I know what your going through. I tried a few point and shoot camera's trying to combine vacation and gymnastics without luck. After second DD started competing i was able to talk DW into a SLR. I have a Canon 20d with Sigma 70-200 f2.8.

My daughter - there aren't enough girls in her age in town for a league so they play against boys teams. I wish they'd all just play together.

Lucky you!! Want to travel to Cinci to take my pictures for me?!! I'm having to learn to be content and realize I'm not going to get all the "split jumps" and "vault" shots I want. My goal is to get really comfortable with this camera and then work on my hubby to upgrade in a couple of years when all 3 of our kids will be in sports at the same time! I figure when the boys start with football and basketball, he's going to want the cool pictures then!!! They tell me patience is a virtue .....
