Photo Assignment November '06: Low Light/Nighttime

MarkBarbieri, your photographs are very beautiful, so clear, crisp & wonderful color. Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to more. Great work.

Thanks. I'm a little embarrassed. Reviewing this thread, I think the intent was to post pictures taken this month. Mine are older ones from some trips a few years ago.

The really colorful sunset photo is the result of oversaturation. I sometimes enjoy doing that as a ay to exagerate the color varations that you see in nature.

Here is a shot of some rocks on the beach using the same technique:

Oversaturation eh? That's a great idea and it looks like you've gotten some really good results out of it. My Sony P&S (or as I like to say P.O.S :lmao: ) only has the option of -/0/+ in terms of saturation but I've still never played with it. I'll get on it though!

I was out in Banff, Alberta over the weekend and stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel; the place is gorgeous! It's pretty much a castle and if I can ever figure out how to post pictures I'll put some up from the weekend. I couldn't take too many from the outside though because it was close to -30 degrees Celcius (-22 deg. F)....VERY COLD!!!! I was smart enough to bring along my GorillaPod tripod which was pretty handy! I highly suggest it! Anyway, I'm working on it....

There was a full moon when I was in WDW earlier this month. I kept trying to get a photo of it, but just couldn't get the right angle. Until I happened to look up and see this one:

Here are a few I took over the Thanksgiving weekend. Was down at my parents house on Cape Cod and once the kids got to be got a chance to wander the beach area and then drove to the Bourne Bridge. Ended up not being the best time for what I wanted to do at the bridge. Not enough traffic to get some real good light trails and the sky was to black for the bridge to really show up. I'll have to do it again another night and get there around dusk. The first ones are around the beach area across from my parents house:

Used f/29 on the light trail to keep the light trail on the smaller side. Earlier pics I took some of the light trails ran into each other more and there were only 2 cars going by. It just didn't look right. I also wanted to make sure I got the deep depth of field to keep the bridge in focus.

Here are 2 more that I liked as well. Got some good light as the sun was setting:

Markbarbieri, wow, what beach did you find those at? We have nothing similar here in Fl.

Kyle..were you standing in the middle of the rotary for those Bourne bridge shots??? brave man!

Marinerbaby, those shots are just too cute. Are any of them or the one you posted in the Mickey Mouse photo challenge your Christmas card?

Yes I was. I was about 8 feet or so back from the road. There is a ton of room there between the edge and the big CAPE COD bush sign. Plus it was late at night and not a lot of traffic. That picture I posted I believe was only 2 maybe 3 cars going away from me over the bridge.

I want to go back closer to dusk while there is still some lightness to the sky so the bridge itself will show up better.

Well, I finally figured out how to post pictures. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

This is a picture of the hotel/castle that DW and I stayed in last weekend...it's called the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta, Canada. It was very cold (-20 deg. F). I took this on my nighttime setting with a tripod, Sony DSC-P93....I really don't like this little camera but it'll do until I buy an SLR. It's a bit grainy at the bottom but overall I think it's a good picture! What do you think??? BTW, our hotel room is the highest one on the far left turret, you can see the one light on! It was the honeymoon suite and we only had to pay $210 CDN/night for it!!!! Most regular rooms in this hotel go for around $450/night. Steal of a deal!!!!

I've been to the Banff Springs Hotel, but it was in the summertime! Banff is an incredibly beautiful place. I'd love to go back there. Great pic too!

Not Disney, but this is from my recent trip to Niagara Falls over Thanksgiving.
