More fun with flash-less photography...

Photography at places like FOTLK's theater can be a pain. They're dark, and using a flash really ruins the theatrical lighting that really adds to the look of the show. You get home and think, that doesn't look like I remember it. So what to do? Turn the flash off and use the ambient light! "But won't my photos be all blurry?" Yes, of course! But you can use that to your advantage. Look for dark backgrounds and colorful movement in the foreground. The more movement, the better. Sounds like FOTLK, doesn't it?

I took my "old" 2.1 mp Nikon CoolPix 950, turned the flash off, and left everything else on "auto":

Male Bird The "male bird" during the opening number with streamers in-hand.

Female Bird His female counterpart.

Tumble Monkies This could have been better if I had gotten at least one more of their faces.

Hot Donut One act perfect for the slow shutter speeds!

Bird Ballet It's interesting to see by the clear distinct images of the male bird's hand that some of their lighting actually "strobes".

Sing Out Loud This one may be too "artsy" for some people, but I really liked the fact that you can tell that this performer is sing out loud in this image.

Finale Flight The female bird overhead during the finale. This was cropped pretty tight and the limitations of the 2.1mp camera are starting to show up in this one.

Some Light With the lights coming up in the theater for the finale, I was able to get an image at a "realitively" fast speed of 1/20th sec. Most of the other images here were from 1/6th to a 1/2 second in length. Again, the in-camera meter did all the work.

These photos may not be the best at showing your co-worker that's never been to WDW what the FOTLK is all about, but anyone that's seen the show should be able to pick up what's happening.

Neat effects. I really like the "Bird Ballet" one. Keep posting your pictures! I can never get enough.:D
