The Jitterbug phone sounds so great, I'm looking into for my dad. He has an awful time with the little buttons on the phone he has now and his vision is pretty bad, so he really can't read the screen either. He doesn't even use his cell all that much and he's paying way more than $29.99 a month.
I also wanted to mention the part Kevin mentioned about "electric" phones that don't work when the power goes out. I had that issue, for some reason last year, we had a rash of power outages, it drove me crazy that the phone would go out too, so I bought a cheap $12 little slim line phone, it didn't do much except ring and let me dial out, but I could just plug it into a phone jack and I had a phone during power outages.
The other thing I wanted to mention, especially if you have elderly loved ones, please, put their phone number somewhere near or on their phone. I can't tell you how many times I've had calls from older people who get so fustrated and upset because they can't remember their phone number. One time a lady was calling because her toilet was overflowing and flooding her bathroom, when I asked for her phone number, she got so upset that she couldn't remember it she started crying and then hung up.
I used a label printer and in big font, put my parent's number on the receivers of all their phones so it's right there if they need it.
