phone number for reservations and question

I have a quick question... What is the phone number to make a reservation. If I call and ask if there is any big group at a perticular resort i.e. cheerleading, bands... (a group of kids) Will they tell me? and how far in advance to they book?

Regarding groups: It is not clear that that information is public information. If I was the parent of a cheerleader, I would surely not want the hotel telling people that my daughter would be staying at a hotel on a specific night without my parental supervision.
