What is the number for special needs requests for room and dietary for Disney?

Today I called and the lady told me I would have to pay more to be close to the central area at CSR. I got a bit upset and told her that it is not our fault our son is SN! She won't transfer me but I know there is a number. I am just furious.

I'm not sure what extra they would be charging you for? I didn't think CSR(Coronado Springs Resort) had a preferred location charge but instead just had a charge for a water view.

What location are you requesting?

BTW, sorry for not being able to answer you original question about the phone number. I've always just called the standard number and had them work things out with special services.

Some resorts do charge an extra fee for certain locations - those are usually things like water views, but can also be things like close to the central area, food court or check in.
If the resort has an extra charge for preferrred locations you do need to pay the extra fee if you want that area; the extra fee is not waived because of a special need.
I don't know if CSR has preferred locations or not.

If you need a wheelchair accessible room, those are located throughout the resort, not just in the central area.
You can request things like 'close to a bus stop' without any extra charge. If you have some other request, that does not require being in the preferred location, you will be able to make those requests.

I am sorry but having a child with Special Needs is not medical cause for a specific location, escpecially near the Food Court/Main Buildings at a moderate or value resort.

Special reservations deals with the type of room which you get. Basically there are two type of special rooms. Both will have higher toilets with grab bars. One will have a tub with grab bars and a flexible shower, this is an accessible room. The other will have a roll-in shower instead of a tub, again with a flexible shower head; this is often referred to as a fully accessible room.

As Sue said, the accessible and fully accesssible rooms are spread throughout the resort. To get a preferred room will cost extra; an accessible room costs based on the location.

And for dietary restrictions they prefer that the original contact be electronic rather than voice, and that information is is Post #3 of the disABILTIES FAQs under the diet section.

CSR does not have a preferred location so there is no extra charge, that being said there is no guarantee you can be close to El Centro. You can request it but that is it. I have 2 special needs sons and our room seemed as far out as we could possibly be. That is why I rent a car or take my own when we are there. Having special needs is not a get everything free card.

Last time CSR placed us in the Ranchero section. DS is a runner and has autism, he doesn't understand cactus. We had to move. We stayed in Casita 3, non water view. Again, we can't have him seeing water, it is just too tempting. The stay was great all things considered. Sorry but having a location that is safe and having access does make things go easier when they can be challenging.

If you are going to quote me, please at least quote the entire sentence. I said

Which means if you have an accessible room with a parking lot view you pay the price for that class of room and if you have a "preferred" room you pay the price for that class of room. Using the Contemporary Resort as an example, they have accessible rooms in the Garden Wing and they also have accessible Park View Tower Rooms. There is a large difference in price between those two classes of room. For an accessible room you would pay the same price as any other room in that class.

For the OP - you just need to request a standard view room in the Casitas then. If there are a couple of conventions at CSR then the Casitas may be booked solid though.

For his running issue, have you tried a harness or a stroller?

Also, I'm sorry he wasn't able to understand about cactus, as the Ranchero area is the driest section of all the resorts that I can think of.

If rooms near the center (El Centro) cost the general public more than rooms in other sections, then yes, ANY Guest wanting such a room is required to pay the rate for that room/category. While it's not the Guest's "fault" (for lack of a better word) that a member of their party has special needs, it is also not the hotel's. There's no valid reason for a hotel to charge an SN party $149 for a room for which every other party pays $164. That's not equal.

However, CSR doesn't have Preferred locations. They have standard view, water view, and Club Level. Casitas, which is what the OP apparently seeks, has rooms in the first two categories only. Since she does not want a water view, there shouldn't be an additional charge for the room.

Disney is required by law to make reasonable accomodations for your son, or anyone else with special needs, to assist them in having an experience equivalent to one without special needs. If I remember correctly from the reading I did (someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong), Disney cannot charge you for something that constitutes a reasonable accomodation (example: accessible room). Disney does not have to provide you with something, free of charge, that another typically-abled guest would have to pay for. Therefore, if you are requesting a certain area that costs more for another guest, you would indeed have to pay the additional fee as well. Having someone in your party with a disability will not get you something for free that other guests pay for.

Now, that being said, I did request a ground floor room for SSR because of the balcony and I would much rather take the chance of my child bolting and me chasing her than having her climb over the balcony ledge. I don't expect to receive my request but I sure do hope it works out. If not, I will do the typical mother thing and keep an eye on her like a watch dog. Sometimes those are the only measures you can take. You can't control where you'll be in the resort and they don't have to move you because you feel it isn't safe or you're worried. That would be ground for moving every family with a two year old because they don't understand the dangers of the lake or the parking lot.

My daughter is ASD and I do understand your concern, but my opinion is that you need to take extra care when traveling and being near water, parking lots, etc. is just something you will have to pay extra attention to. Maybe staying somewhere else would better accomodate you, or possibly just a tighter watch on your DS would keep him from touching things like the cacti. Either way, good luck. When making requests like these, the Special Reservations CMs are not typically involved. They DO get involved for things that there are limited numbers of (for example, fully wheelchair accessible rooms) or for things that need advance preparation (for example, coordination of having a regular bed removed from a room and replaced with a hospital bed).

For your location concerns of needing first floor, when you make the request, tell them it is a medical request. The medical requests are filled first before any other requests. Ground floor is actually a pretty easy request for them to fill. Many people request higher floors and since the resorts are only a few stories high, you have a pretty good chance of getting first floor just by chance (in a 4 story building, 25% of the rooms are on first floor).
