Hello! I just recently applied to the Disney College Program and I'm waiting for my phone interview. I wanted to know if anyone knows if it would be alright to talk about my past experience bringing joy to kids as a princess. I love costuming and so I creating a cosplay of Rapunzel because she is my favorite princess. I would volunteer for this non profit that created what was called the Teddy Bear Tea Party. We would raise money to help the medical center in our town, and some people would dress up and interact with the children. I was very careful about character integrity, and I absolutely adored my friend Rapunzel. Should I talk about it during my phone interview, or because it was not officially for Disney I should refrain? I always loved creating that magic for the kids. Even when Rapunzel had to go make sure Pascal and Maximus were not stirring up too much trouble. Please comment below, Thank you!

Phrase it in a way of experience. Be high level. I wouldn't immediately state which characters unless they happen to ask.

If you are interested in being a character performer, you will need to audition (https://disneyprogramsblog.com/disney-college-program-auditions/). Your interviewer doesn't have a say whether or not you will be a character. That is determined by the disney entertainment people at the audition. However, they do have a say in whether or not you will get into the program (you could pass the audition, but bomb the interview and not get in). You will need to sell them with having experience with children and parents. And that type of experience is good to have no matter which position you get on the CP.

I couldn't agree more with khancock. Don't start with characters or friends or whatever. In my opinion the characters aren't nearly as important as the fact that you may have the theater experience, you volunteer, you have experience bringing joy to children, you obviously really enjoyed it and have a happy outlook on life, etc. If they ask what characters were involved or details of the show, don't be afraid to let them know. But don't start with that because the highlight for them is going to be your attitude, what you accomplished, the work with kids, etc.

You might want to be cautious about mentioning that you dress up as "Rapunzel" for a hospital group. Disney copyrights their characters and you really need permission to perform as one of their characters. Especially for a business. Talk about your experience, but not about their character.
