first timer here. i have no reason to carry any backpacks or anything so was wondering if anyone has just kept their phone in their front shorts pocket that doesnt have a zipper/button? i know disney isnt like my parks near home with coasters that have crazy upside down turns but just wondering on any the disney rides (MK/epcot/AK) if i'm going to be ok just phone in pocket. havent been to any parks in over a decade but at the one i was at they had wooden cubicles for you to put your glasses and other loose items on the crazy rides. cant imagine today anyone putting expensive cell phones in them though. and i didnt take a phone back then but of course at disney you gotta take pics

only alternative i can think of is cargo shorts which i dont have but the lower pocket with a button seems like an good alternative. does that pocket or even a regular pocket get in the way of any ride safety bars etc?

Depends on how deep the pockets are. I have some shorts that this would work with, and others that I would not trust.

ETA - Cargo shorts are my go to at WDW, though I have a few pair of shorts with a single zipper pocket on one leg that is great.

Not sure if you are a man or a woman. Most mens shorts have deep enough pockets that you should be o.k. My adult son wears cargo shorts but the only thing he puts in the button bottom cargo pocket is a disposable rain poncho. He puts his phone and a fuel cell charger in one front pockets and his wallet in the other. Women's shorts, on the other hand, rarely have pockets deep enough. If you can find a women's cargo short some of them do have cargo pockets deep enough. I wear tennis skorts.

One year I lost my iPhone when I put it in my shorts pocket on Thunder Mountain. Didn’t realize it until the exit gate and luckily the cast member at the exit gate went to look for it and found it! You would think I’d learn but the next year it fell out during the Frozen ride at Epcot. It got turned into guest services so was lucky again. The following trip I bought a Fanny pack that looks like Minnie Mouse so I can store the phone in there. Swore against Fanny packs but I felt like I really pushed my luck on losing my phone so much. Don’t know how I lost it twice and got it back twice.

Speaking as a female, no way. Women's clothes have ridiculously shallow pockets. My phone sometimes falls out of my pocket when I'm just sitting in my car. Several years ago when phones were smaller I could keep it in my pocket on some rides, but I definitely wouldn't do it now. I always bring a small cross-body bag for my phone, wallet, sunglasses, and phone charger(s).

When I go with my DH, he wears cargo shorts. I have also done it with shorts with deep pockets. I did lose my phone on Space Mountain once, but it was quickly located. Now I am just extra aware of where it is at all times.

The safety harness or bar or belt or whatever usually kinda keeps it in there. Sometimes I kinda turn it sideways to be sure but I have never had an issue doing what you want to do.
Two things.
-Water ride I used to keep a ziplock sandwich bag in my pocket (now my phone is waterproof).
-On Tower of Terror you have to be especially careful with anything on your person. I’ve seen a penny floating in midair.

I'm a woman, and I don't trust front pockets because they're too small. I keep my phone in my back pocket and haven't had any issues on rides.

This is a Running Buddy that has a flap you tuck into your waistband and a pouch that hangs on the outside. It's meant to give runners pockets when their running shorts may not provide one. You could totally use one of these in the parks.

No issues with front pocket phone on all of the HS rides (have not been to the rest of Disney yet). No issues with phone in front pocket for any Universal ride it is allowed on, including Hagrids. You can also adjust how the pocket/phone is positioned once you are seated, switch it to a back pocket, or keep a hand over it if needed.

I wear jeans (or jean shorts) and select those with large enough front pockets. (Why do some clothing designers think women don't need decent sized pockets?)

To be fair, my phone fits pockets snuggly now. Years ago I had a much smaller phone come out on a major Six Flags coaster - I realized afterwards that the seatbelt went right underneath the phone when I was seated on the left. I had ridden twice before on the right and the seatbelt went over the phone on that side and helped hold it in instead of boosting it out like on the left... I did take it out for Manta at Sea World to be safe because I had a non-riding friend. At Cedar Fair I shifted it to back pockets or button pockets during the major coasters.

My daughter, who prefers men's clothing, lost her phone on Mission Space when it fell out of her cargo shorts pocket.

that stinks, did the button come off the pocket? i never wear cargos but the idea of the locking pocket is why i'm considering them. phone in that pocket on every ride would be my plan.

Female here, I almost always tuck my phone in the back pocket of my shorts or jeans - be it at home or at the park - no problems ever. And my phone is in a case. I prefer hands free if at all possible.
Don't put it in the front pocket because I find it awkward & uncomfortable.

As long as you don't have a problem with people asking, "Is that your phone in your pocket or are you just happy to be here?", then no problem. :earboy2:

Depends on how deep pockets are. I lost my iPhone on fast trac...slipped out. Thankfully it was returned by next guest. Just had to wait for that car to swing by. Lol. My advice is to just check seat and pocket before leaving a ride. Or get a waterproof phone pocket. You can wear the strap around your neck and phone will protected in rain and on splash mountain.

Not sure about putting your phone in your front pocket. May be difficult to bend forward if you need to. My husband and adult sons always wear cargo shorts. Lots of pockets, some with zippers or just velcro closures. They have never had a problem or lost anything.😊

We always take a synch back pack. It's not intrusive and will hold a few other items you may want to keep safely tucked away on wild rides, ie: sunglasses, ball cap, charger.

regarding packs etc, where do you keep them when on the 'more wild' rides?..or even the tame ones i guess. silly question but i'm all about the details. i guess im over thinking things cause there are no cages you need to put down over you like on the upside down coasters. but since i dont know the rides at disney i'm asking. and probably over thinking

I would reconsider whether you think you need a backpack. You can't just easily pop back to your room for items. I couldn't imagine going into the parks without these minimum items: sunblock, hat, sunglasses, bottle of water, small snack (nuts, granola bar, etc) and back up cell phone charger. Now with Covid I would add in a second mask in case one gets sweaty or dirty. The list could easily go on but a small fanny or back pack is a pretty essential park accessory.
