When we went to California this year, DBfs mobile ran out of juice during the second week and we couldn't recharge it. Despite having the phone plugged in for literally 12 hours overnight, the darn thing would not juice up and we couldn't use it.
We did notice that when the charger was plugger into the travel plug the whole combo was really heavy and didn't seem to stay in the socket properly but we propped it all up overnight so it was properly plugged in.
We wondered if its down to the different voltage or whether anyone had any other ideas-the charger is fine at home. Is there such a thing as a dual voltage phone charger?

Can't help regarding a dual voltage charger, but we are taking a 4 way gang with us so that we can plug an adaptor in to the socket and then plug the gang in to the adaptor, that would hopefully solve the weight problem you mentioned (which we have also experienced) also it means we will have all chargers in one place so that they are less easy to leave behind.

Have you checked the input on the charger?
I used to have a Motorola V220 phone, the charger for that only had an input of 240v, not suitable for use in US on their 110V system.
It should say something like input 110V~240V, if it only says 240V it won't charge.
If it does say 110V~240V maybe you didn't have it plugged in correctly as it should have charged no problem.

Neither of us drive and he won't let me hire one just to recharge the phone with
