Phone cards - do cards bought in Canada work in the US or Caribbean?

Hi,
I have noticed that a lot of people have recommended giving out phone cards in additions to tips to the cast members. If I buy the international phone cards here at home, will they work in the US or the Caribbean? I have never used a phone card so I am not familiar with them at all. I don't want to buy a bunch and then find out that they're not useful to the cast member when they try to use them.

They might or they might not. Last May, we bought some phone cards (I can't remember which one but it was a no name company) here that were suppose to work but didn't end up working (they said on the back they worked anywhere in North America). Even though the cards didn't work, they had no problems deducting the credit In December, we took AT&T cards we bought at Sam's Club, they worked but cost a lot more to use in the US than they did in Canada.

If you have a car, maybe you can pick up some at the local Wal-Mart or Target stores in Orlando.

They have a 1-800 number you can use when out of the country. We use them for our home long distance provider. I think it is 4.9 cents a minute.

Do those cards work with 'cell phones"?

Yes, they will attach your account to 8 phone numbers. They give you a pin number for when you are outside of Canada to use. It cost a few cents more to use it with a pin, but definitely cheaper than most. We can attach it to my in laws in Florida when we go there so I can use it as well. I have friends who travel to Texas for the winter and they use it from there.
It's not an actual card, you just call them and add money to your account. When you make a call it will tell you how much money and time you have left.

Have you ever bought a phone card in the U.S. that worked in WDW? Last time, we bought a phone card at Belz but we couldn't use it within the WDW phone system. We actually had to use a payphone off WDW property to get it to work.
