Phoenix to DLR

I go the same way Cheshirecatty does. I can leave here at 0500 and be in the park by 10 or 11 depending on whether it's daylight savings time or not!

It takes us about 5 hours with no traffic snarls--avoid rush hour traffic if you can. We've left from Mesa before, around 6:00am and got through Phoenix pretty quickly. If you have to leave later than that, I'd wait until around 9:00am(just my opinion).

It gets pretty windy as you approach Palm Springs, just be aware and ready for dust storms.

We like to take the 60(Moreno Valley Freeway), after you hit Banning and Beaumont, just because it's prettier, and we find it a bit less trafficky.

If you choose to do that, the 60 spits you onto the 91 after about 22 miles, and you stay on the 91 for about 33 miles, then take exit 31 onto 57south. You can exit right onto Katella(exit 2) and be about two miles from Disneyland Drive.

It sounds more complicated than it really is, and this is the fastest way we've found, to get there.

You can, of course, stay on I-10(straight shot) and come south on the 57 to Anaheim(we've done that, but it's not our favorite), it just depends on which drive you might like personally!:)

This is us too. We stop for gas just before the border (exit 5 or 1) whether we really need to or not since gas jumps a good 70 cents as soon as you cross in to CA. Takes us about 6-6.5 hours from Chandler with stops to stretch and such. The landscape is boring for sure. The rest areas in CA were all closed earlier this month so plan accordingly.

I used to live near Riverside and will echo going the 60 versus the 91. 91 is almost always terrible. 60 usually isn't so bad. I forgot about this when we drove from DLR to my ILs' in Palm Desert and man, won't make that mistake again.

Hey Iive in Chandler too! Well right on the border between Chandler and Gilbert now. Hi!

Quite the Phoenix metro contingent here. We should organize a meetup one of these days.

What is the drive like from Phoenix to DLR using the Highway I-10 ?

any hints and tips would be great. tia

I would echo everyone who says it's long stretches of desert, though I think it's beautiful scenery. I would also echo the person who said at night it's really dark (if you are tired at all, it can be rough to stay awake in the pitch black). It's also a major shipping corridor, so you'll see (and have to avoid) lots of large trucks. That being said, I've always found it goes pretty quickly (maybe 5-6 hours, depending on traffic in Phoenix and LA).

Honestly though, unless you really need the car, Southwest is always running pretty inexpensive flights between Phoenix and LAX. I would just fly if you can afford it. It may not get you there faster (with having to get to the airport early, get through security, then get from LAX to DLR), but I'd rather spend that time playing with my kids in the airport or on the plane than fighting traffic.

Not to hijack the thread but...Hi to you too! I work on the Chandler Gilbert border and live on the Chandler Tempe border.
