Cupcake Friday (as if just being Friday is not sweet enough) Chocolate Beer Cupcake Captain Cook’s (POLY) On to our next resort and a favorite of my fellow original cupcake, who is still on the fence with this trip (she is married to a high school coach and her daughter is a varsity basketball player…and yep, this trip could fall right in the middle of play offs…I am so hoping that she can come…she is my twiddle). So in the POLY we will be looking for Captain Cook’s (as well as the bar for that Lapu Lapu). Apparently Captain Cook’s is a hidden gem at WDW in terms of cupcakes as they cycle through several different cupcakes, usually coming up with fun and innovative ideas and here is there latest…

I figured this cupcakes name is making you sit a little taller as you read my research, since the Pina Colada did not work for you…how about Chocolate Beer?
http://s127.photobucket.com/user/mo...upcake-CaptainCooks01-13_zps108b0fb9.jpg.html Yes, this cupcakes is actually made with beer! This cupcake is made with a base of a standard cupcake and then the bakers us the Kona Brewing Company’s Pipeline Porter in both the buttercream frosting and the cupcake batter. The Pipeline Porter is Kona’s darkest beer and uses 100% Kona coffee beans in the brewing process for the porter. It is one of the top selling beers at Kona. It is then topped off by a chocolate covered pretzel.
http://s127.photobucket.com/user/mo...olate-beer-cupcake-cross_zpse47e2d8f.jpg.html Nothing special on the inside... Here are the reviews I found… The frosting is very good. Very malty, not too sweet. The cake itself, you could definitely taste the beer. It was a very interesting flavor. The beer and chocolate flavors shared prominence, and it definitely had the taste and aftertaste of beer. The barley and hops taste was noticeable. It seemed like a bizarre combination of flavors. I’m glad I tried it, but it’s probably not something I would get again. This actually excited me quite a bit since this is my favorite of their beers and I thought it would add great flavor to the dessert. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed. I love beer and I love cupcakes but I felt like this one fell flat. The cake itself was ok but honestly just tasted like slightly dry chocolate cake. The frosting had an amazing texture that would have been enjoyable but it tasted overwhelmingly of beer, and not in a good way. I thought the one saving grace would be the chocolate covered pretzels (one of my favorite snacks) but they were stale and far from satisfying. My advice; try one of the other amazing cupcakes Captain Cook’s offers and drink a beer with your dinner. You will be much happier you did. So you see it gets mixed reviews, but I am not always one to listen to reviews because everyone has an opinion and only mine counts...

. Personally this cupcake is NOT for me, I am not a beer fan (I prefer the hard stuff in girly drinks). What are your thoughts?
