PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

MUSIC MONDAY

What song would you be embarrassed about if anyone ran past you and heard it playing...

I have so many embarrassing songs right now...a girl of the 80s so you can imagine! But probably the most embarrassing one in my current playlist is...

KARMA CHAMELEON
by Culture Club aka Boy George

And you can guess that as they are running past me, I am singing...

Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go

Welcome Gretchen!

MUSIC MONDAY

What song would you be embarrassed about if anyone ran past you and heard it playing...

Nothing terribly embarrassing on my Running 2014 playlist, but a previous running playlist may or may not include the following:
  • Celebrate You - The former Disney parade song
  • Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus
  • The Jonas Brothers
  • We Built This City - Starship
  • Too Legit To Quit
  • Bootylicious
  • My Humps
  • Tootsee Roll
  • More than one selection by Ashlee Simpson

You may pretend not to know me now.

Jenn here with my new screen name :)

Welcome Gretchen!

Tammie~ Sorry about the shins last week. Unfortunately, resting is not something runners are ever good at! Any word on a PT? When do you go to Dallas to check out running shoes? Have you tried compression socks? I know some of my running friends have swear by them for their calf/shin pain. Your daughter looked like a princess!

Andreah~ Did you make that training plan form? It is so pretty and I would follow a training plan if it looked like that :). Sounds like you have a good plan for the ITBand. Mine was acting up and it was all in my glutes (once again my tight a** is giving me trouble :rotfl2:). The roller is the best and stretching, pigeon pose always really helps me with that. Also focus on strengthing exercises so that your other muscles carry some of their fair share and not so much of your glutes. I know friends of mine love the strap too. My sister tried it with her ITBand and it didn't help as much, but she did a bunch of leg strengthening exercises and that helped.

Karen~ I hope you were safe this weekend with all that severe weather.

Brandy~ Love the prom pictures!

I am feeling better! I managed 4 miles on Saturday, 10 less than my plan, but I was not feeling well so I thought that was fine. I did 5 today and felt great so hopefully this stomach virus has packed up and left. My appetite is back as well. Last night my Best Friend and I were planning our FastPass+ selections for our trip in July with our 2 families. I was getting so excited! Our husbands just sat there and laughed at us!

Ok, Music Monday:

Have you ever really loved a woman by Bryan Adams
Mambo Italiano by Dean Martin

Great Prom pictures! Hard to believe it's that season already!

Happy Birthday Betsy. Hope you enjoyed lots of cupcakes!

Good training Tammie!

Welcome Gretchen!

Have a great week everyone!

Hahahaha, is this in response to the fact that I posted my Brittney Spears song was one of my most played last week? :rotfl2:

So there you go, that's mine:

"Till the World Ends" Brittney Spears

Along with:

"Womanizer" Brittney Spears (man, she showed up again!)
"On the Floor" J-Lo
"We Can't Stop" Miley Cyrus

Hi Jenn! Yes, I did make that form. I'm a productivity geek. Nerdness is in my DNA. And I love me some printables. One of these days, I'll get some digital paper goodness on my blog that is so shamelessly promoted on this Workout Plan form that has not been updated in weeks. I'll try to post a blank copy PDF tonight after my run (or walk depending on whether or not my knee continues to be a little princess).

I love Boy George and Culture Club! You know he is releasing a new album this year.

As far as singing odd songs, I am going with My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, my favorite movie. I sing it sometimes when I feel I have nothing left in a run or when trying to get up a hill.

I haven't made an official running list as of yet - but I usually listen to just released stuff on Spotify....I noticed that hip hop/rap gets me going and I usually don't like it that much hahaha

I just started C25K WEEK 4 this morning! :cool1:

I noticed today - finally at week 4 that I HATE running. I pushed through and completed it but I had thoughts of "I can't do this....I can't run 30 minutes run/walk without wanting to stop!"

Anyone else going through this?

Also: I'm going to the doctor the first week of June but I think...I think....I have Fibromyalgia. I'm always anxious and the aches and pains in my body is pretty crazy for a 25 yr old! My moods have been up and down inside of my mind and just sitting here I'm clinching my teeth like I'm anxious or nervous or something! My hands get numb and week sometimes. I have muscle twitching my body everyday - mostly one spot in my back or on my legs. My chest hurts too, near the middle of my sternum; my pecs hurt when I rub the muscle. It's tender and sore. My neck and shoulders too are tender. I always worry about something - I'm a worry nut! I just want to relax and feel good but it's so difficult.:sad1:

I know there isn't a "cure" and you pretty much need to control it. I'm going to start doing yoga more often and having quite time before bed every night and meditate. Training for the PHM weekend is helping but when I'm done running - I'm back to being anxious again.

Anyone else have this? How do you overcome it? I need a hug or something hahaha!

EDIT: Okay so I just looked into it some more and I think I just have an anxiety disorder or something related?

Yay for starting a new program, but boo for not feeling good. I admit, I also do not "enjoy" running. I keep waiting for that promised runners high or the drifting off into being one with the universe that so many running blogs tout. I have not experiences these and doubt I ever will.

I can also relate on the stress front. I am a nervous person by nature and I wear my heart on my sleeve, so when I am hurt it takes a while to heal emotionally. I hope you find an answer that helps you, but until then I'm sending (((hugs))) your way!

Thank you so much!!!

The last time I got a runner's high was about 3 years ago and the runners high is AMAZING. You'll get it! I promise! :yay:

I am sorry you are feeling bad! One suggestion, I noticed you are from NE and I am from NY so a close neighbor. My friend thought she had fibromyalgia and it turned out it was lyme disease. So just something to consider talking to your doctor about. It is a blood test they can run. Some doctors are more receptive than others to looking into it, it is amazing the controversy behind Lyme! And just so you know, you do not always get the ring when you have been bit. But anxiety can also have a lot of physical symptoms. I am sorry that you are having a hard time with running. While I love it and can't imaging not doing it, I can understand that not everyone feels the same way. I use to HATE it, but then I saw what it did for my anxiety and I never looked back. The runner's high is awesome and I read an article in a journal about how they proved its existence! It was very interesting.

I can't really think of anything I'd be embarrassed by. I guess I have a large number of country on my playlist, so maybe that. I think I'd only really be embarrassed if someone caught me SINGING any of my songs while I was running. :lmao: Cuz I do that sometimes...

So this was posted on a blog I follow, and I thought that other cupcakes might find it interesting (and I'm curious about your thoughts).

Basically, they're confused as to why you'd run a race and not take a medal/save your bib.

WELCOME

Gretchen-
Of course you can hang out with us, but only if it is sugar laced icing on top! :thumbsup2 Don't worry about trying to catch up, just jump in now...we can be pretty chatty on some days. Although this weekend has been strangely quiet!

I think many of us have used the exact same line with our husbands "health related!" And don't be afraid to ask questions about training we have some pretty experienced cupcakes here who will help you along our way!

As for C25K...don't worry about running the whole way through. I tried that and was failing miserably and I almost gave up. Google JEFF GALLOWAY and find out about his run/walk method! He is also the run Disney trainer...can't go wrong!

I have looked at the Jeff Galloway plans on the runDisney site, and will likely get his 10K trainer. I believe the C25K is similar, you just can't adjust the intervals and a friend said you could on the Jeff Galloway ap? But I seriously can't run for all the running portions which is a little pathetic since they're not very long!

P.S. I love sugar. The more the better...hence why I have to exercise! ;) I may, or may not have been known to eat cupcakes for breakfast at Disney! :scared1:

I don't know that it's embarassing, but I find it humorous that this 30-something mom will be running along, with her baby in a stroller jamming to Talk Dirty to Me by Jason Derulo. I'm pretty sure my 14 year old would roll his eyes if he heard that! ;)

I was in bed recently for 2 weeks. Sick as a dog. My husband thought it was somehow related to Post Partum depression. So while I'm not sure that was the case with me, I definitely know from experience that my stress and anxiety can manifest itself in physical ways! And in the meantime...here's a hug!

What? I basically want to do a race for the bling! (And the Disney trip of course! ;) ) But I guess everyone has their reasons for running and I can respect that. (Ironically the other blog mentioned is one I'm doing a Diet Bet for in a few weeks. Hopefully I didn't kiss my $20 goodbye!:scared:

I have a very eclectic playlist. The only thing that embarasses me is when some songs have "colorful language." Lol.

Have you considered getting a good massage? I used to work with a massage therapist and had a massage every other week. It was wonderful!

My kids get cupcakes for breakfast on their birthdays! :)

Can someone explain to me what IT band syndrome feels like? My knee has been bothering me. It feels tight, not really painful. I went to my chiro last week and he said my hip was out and adjusted it and said it should help my knee too. He also fussed at me about my shoes and said that runners should always wear supportive shoes. I was wearing flip flops.

Look what I found on my passholder page today:
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at Walt Disney World® Resort: Early registration for this event begins Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Noon Eastern Time.

The countdown begins!

Can someone explain to me what IT band syndrome feels like? My knee has been bothering me. It feels tight, not really painful.

I happen to be a semi-expert on ITBS right now, but I'm happy to report that I seem to be improving.

It starts out as a sensation outside of the knee on one leg or the other. At first it doesn't hurt, but you start to "notice" it - tightness perhaps is the best way to describe it. If you continue to walk or run, then the sensation gradually increases to pain. It becomes a little difficult to bend the leg and walk up or down stairs (walking down is especially difficult).

Treatment is R-I-C-E = Rest + Ice + Compression + Elevation. I've also been taking a Motrin about a half-hour before workouts and using a foam roller and performing leg lifts.

After about a week of not running, I was able to run/walk/run for 2 miles last night at 15s/45s intervals wearing a compression brace on my left knee. I walked the final mile just to be safe. I hope to run/walk/run a full 3 miles on Thursday.

Hope you feel better soon!

As promised, here is a printable workout form for this week. This weekend I'll try to work on an editable version where you can type on it and change the dates.

Workout Plan April 28 - May 4

This is awesome!

What does everyone do when weather prevents you from run/walking outside? No treadmill or elliptical here. (And sadly no space in this house for one.) I am thinking my Leslie Sansome 3-mile walk video might be a good substitute? Fortunately the rain held off or moved on long enough for me to get my workout in today. Did 2 miles run/walk in 30 1/2 minutes. Not too shabby. Splits were 16 mm os that's pretty decent for a girl who formerly claimed to not be able to run! :cool1:

Tomorrow I start week 2 of C25K. I'll have to find an extra running day this week since I didn't get one in Fri or Sat as planned last week! A huge thanks to all the cupcakes! You ladies motivate me!
