PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Are you sure they have that ornament still? I searched everywhere just 2 weeks ago and couldn't find ANY Cinderella, slipper, princess-y ornaments, I was pretty disappointed. I even have photos from previous years of ornaments that I could have used, but they were nowhere to be found. I ended up getting a little castle that lights up/changes colors. I wanted something that would remind me of my first half.

I'm hoping to have all the Princesses sign my bib as well! I just did not have the time this trip as I was with my daughter and her friend, but next year being all alone I think I can swing it! :thumbsup2

Heather, one other thing to consider about the expo is that they will NOT allow strollers. Just something to consider with your little one.

5K...I don't remember entering a time to be honest. I signed up the day it opened & I was in corral A, I signed up Bo in late Dec & he was in E (last corral). I moved back to his corral to do the race with him.

The race was no pressure to finish & worry about getting swept, but we didn't stop for character pics. Bo doesn't care for characters, so I didn't make him stop. We took a few pics around the World Showcase.

10K I am pretty sure you would need to enter a POT (proof of time) or submit one at a later date (expect early Nov) to avoid last corral.

1/2 marathon you need to enter POT to avoid last corral. This year the corrals went up to P.

GSC people had 2 different corrals on their bibs, 1 for the 10K & 1 for the 1/2.

Definitely submit a 10K or higher race result (make sure it is chip timed). It is nice having a cushion & not having to worry about the balloon ladies.

You can find the glass slipper ornament at your wdw store dot net (wont let me type it)-- looks like it is $26.95 on there. Not sure what it originally was selling for at DTD. I did a search for glass slipper & it showed up.

So how bad is it that we are just about 4 months away from our trip to Europe and I have very little planned...but I have my Sunday at PHM outlined...

Sunday, February 22
-Princess Half Marathon
-Princess Breakfast (Akerhaus or CRT)
-Cupcake Crawl
-Dress Up Dinner at Yachtsman
-JellyRolls until I drop

I am not a huge shopper and normally all I get as a remember of my trip is the album full of memories that I create. Sometimes, I get an ornament. But I ready have found some ideas beyond the scrapbook...

First of all, I want to do this with my bib!

Then I must get this ornament!

And finally, I want this for my car!

Princess breakfast sounds fun after the race! I have eaten breakfast at both Akershus & CRT...they were both fun. If Harper goes with me, she would be ecstatic with either. We ate at CRT on Christmas Eve 2012 & Akershus Christmas morning 2012 (saw Belle in her holiday dress)...such great memories of that trip.

And Yachtsman...YUMMY! That was my 2nd choice had I not been able to get into Le Cellier for celebration dinner after PHM.

I didn't buy anything "princess-y" to remember the race. I bought an ornament, but it was Haunted Mansion Mickey :rolleyes1 I did buy a new 13.1 sticker for my car though. And of course I had the commemorative pins for 5K & 1/2...and a Run Disney lanyard & RD pin.

Oh, and from your other post...POFQ was nice. We stayed there 1 night before moving over to POR. I really liked both. POFQ has beignets though, so that's a plus for me.

As for booking this vacation, I will not be booking through runDisney for many reasons. It seems like every Disney running board I read has horror stories about the experience. Also, it is my understanding that all runDisney offers is a slight room discount and there are no more discounts on tickets. Also, should an offer come up for free dining, you cant get that with the runDisney reservation. So in the long run there seems to be too many headaches with runDisney reservations and in the end you are not saving much. I prefer to decide on exactly what I want and then turn it over to a travel agent and I let her do all the monitoring of discounts. Of course, I keep an eye on rumors but I always set a budget and make a decision on what I want and if an offer comes out, well that is icing on the cake. The TA that I use is awesome, despite what some OCD people think...she does her job well and is the expert not a bunch of know it all people who second guess and constantly question a person doing their job.
I just want to add my experience with RD. We booked with RD and used my own TA. She handled it all. We ended up with a 23% discount on our room-only reservation at POFQ (and previous 20% discount on BW before I switched it). We got a $100 per person discount on 7 day park hoppers through Run Disney.

On the flip side, we could only book our room through 10/7 so we had to add 2 nights at rack rate on a separate reservation and link the two to hope that we can stay in the same room and not check-out/check-in.

Also, later found out that we can't get our parkhopper passes until we check in. So, while we'll have magic bands, we can't "load" them until our check in date and won't be able to pre-reserve any FP+ until that date. We talked about it extensively, and decided it's not worth $200 at this time of year (low-moderate crowds) to fret over it. We may miss out on TSM and BOG lunch fast passes, but we'll be able to get the rest of what we'd want to do.

Finally, our TA says she'll watch for deeper room-only discounts or FD and she thinks we can cancel/rebook or change our reservation if the offers are more attractive. Though she's never booked through RD before, and the little parkhopper surprise was sprung on both of us after the ticket prices went up for 2014. She says they haven't offered FD during that time period in several years, and we don't think we would use it much anyway - we never eat that much, rarely eat desserts, and plan to do lots of tasting at F&W. But free is free, right? so if it comes along and makes it less expensive than our 23% room discount, we can look at it.

ToT- Hoping I can convince Hubby to do Pirate theme. This might be the ONLY theme he would agree to. SIL wants in on our theme too.. so it would be easy enough....
My husband has insisted he will be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for this run. He is trying to figure out when to start growing out his beard braids LOL. I'll try to find and post a pic of his costume from our New Year's Eve 2006/07 party.

So should I be a wench? Do any of you have any of those cute picture pull together costume ideas I saw posted on the last page?

I have to confess that I just can't keep up right now on this PTR. I am going to eventually go back and read and ask questions and post comments, but lots is going on in my personal life this week (tax season is a given, but mom is in the hospital, my sister is having medical issues, my nephew is having some issues with a friend who just OD'd on alcohol and nutmeg, of all things, and my dad is not paying his bills and runs a business so I have to figure out if I can help him). I'm sure I have more going on, but I am in crisis management mode right now so ...breathe....

Anyway, I will eventually catch up on here. Y'all are tempting me to start my own PTR. Like I have time - haha. I'll stick to my travel blog. Link is in my signature, I think (?)

Off to find a pic of my Hubby.

Edited: Here you go!

Tammie- where do you find those costume boards like that? Pinterest?
What do you search under? Like "Character" Running?

I did a google search for ____ running. It did lead me to quite a few pinterest boards that I am now following for idea.

Looooove the monster one- so cute!!!

Your 'Sunday' plans look awesome! Hope to be part of them at times!!

And love that ornament- where is that from? The Expo? I must get one of those!!!

Love for you to be any or all of my Sunday plans...anyone is welcome! The more the more fun!

I found this ornament on a fb running page I follow. I believe she found it at the Christmas Store in DTD? Betsy has one...from a year ago...

This is from this year...the girl posted that she was "running" late to her ME departure because she was getting it personalized! I collect ornaments when I travel and this just makes me smile looking at it!

I'm hoping to have all the Princesses sign my bib as well! I just did not have the time this trip as I was with my daughter and her friend, but next year being all alone I think I can swing it! :thumbsup2

I thought it was such a fun idea! Being alone has its advantages...:rolleyes1

RD certainly has its challenges...not sure when you are going, but I had FD while I was there in October. And this year during around the time of PHM there was play-stay-dine packages. But you never can tell what Disney is going to do, I HATE WAITING AND SPECTULATING FOR MONTHS. I would rather set my budget, book what I can afford and if something comes up great more Mickey bars, if not no big deal.

I love my TA and she does a great job! All I want her to do is control my room reservation and watch for discounts. I tell her exactly what I want and she books...and keeps her eye on it for me. That way I can worry about the FUN stuff in planning...ADRs, Cupcake Crawls, attractions...

Sometimes there are Travel Agencies out there that get special deals during certain events. I know of one last year during ToT...that had great room discounts.

My husband has insisted he will be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for this run. He is trying to figure out when to start growing out his beard braids LOL. I'll try to find and post a pic of his costume from our New Year's Eve 2006/07 party.

Oh Susan, I am so sorry about your family. Please know that you and them are all in my prayers. Your plate is so full...don't worry about at stupid PTR! We know you are lurking and posting while you can...you are right just breathe! You are an amazing woman with lots of strength I know you and all that you love with pull through...

Anyway, I will eventually catch up on here. Y'all are tempting me to start my own PTR. Like I have time - haha. I'll stick to my travel blog. Link is in my signature, I think (?)

You have such amazing adventures. I loved reading about your Greece sail this past summer!

Off to find a pic of my Hubby.

Dude is a perfect Captain Jack.

Here is a link on making a wrench running top...

http://frommarriedtomerry.wordpress.com/2014/02/04/diy-pirate-running-costume-the-top-half/

If you sign up for Glass Slipper Challenge you are signing up for BOTH the 10K Enchanted & the 1/2. (you will only do one registration that registers you for both and then you get the special GSC medal in addition to the 10K & Half medals).

You can also sign up for each of the other three races separately. But if you sign up for them separately, you will not get the Glass Slipper Challenge medal. (even though you may have run it!).

GSC will be in most demand. Followed by 1/2, 10K & then finally 5K (my guess).

I do not believe there is a special medal for all three races run but someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that!

Therefore, if you want to really do all three races, register for Glass Slipper Challenge & then 5K. That's the way to do it!

Clear as mud?

:goodvibesThank you, yes i am all clear on that now! The website confuses me a little! I thought it was saying to register for the 1/2, 10K AND the GSC... can you imagine if I didn't ask:crazy2:

I will share a pic of each of my costumes in the next day or so from last month. Have to get them uploaded to Photobucket or Flickr.
Sounds good! Yeah, i didn't know about doing a princess either! That's why I was asking about Mulan... she's not a princess!

Heather...Attempting to reply to your comments above (looks like Nicole did a great job explain the run part of it)....

Yes she did, thank you Nicole!

The swelling of my ankle is better, really bruised right now and still hard to put weight on...so I am still going to stay away from running or walking until the bruising and pain are gone. Thank you for asking, you are right I do not want to end up in PT again...although secretly I really enjoyed the deep tissue laser and ultrasound treatments.

:rotfl:I would love those treatments as well! But good idea! Don't want you to miss the other races either! Avengers sounds like it's going to be lots of fun!
I am sure a lot of your issues on your first walk were because of nursing. Make sure you carry something with you and eat something before you start about 30 minutes.

Yeah my doctor did say that today! Oh my, just when you think that the kids have taken all they can from you!

Betsy gave me the sour patch idea. I had to laugh when you said you thought kidney beans...I am not a huge fan of the sports beans. They do not have the same texture or taste of a real jelly bean. I do like the gummy chews that I mentioned. Sour patch are great but my hands sweat and I get all sticky.

i wonder about sweedish fish then! I love those guys too! I really had no idea about beans, it just sounds so weird to me!

I know it was Disney and darn it I am not passing up dessert...I completely enjoyed both the almond crusted cheesecake the night before and the Masters cupcake the afternoon of the race. BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I CONTINUED TO HEAR IN MY MIND THE CONSTANT SCOULDING I RECEIVED ABOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT EATING SWEETS BEFORE MY RACE...you don't know how many times I got that lecture. I am sure glad I did not listen because I am still dreaming of those 2 desserts!

You should have thought of me I wasn't able to eat sweets when pregnant, i looked like that guy! So you should have called me and I could have pushed out bad thoughts by asking you to describe every bite, smell, texture... YUMMM!!!

I am not a huge champagne drinker, but a little glass in celebration sounds great. Maybe carry a little bottle of orange juice an make a mimosa. I don't know anything about what is available to drink after the race. ARE WE STILL PLANNING A PRINCESS BREAKFAST for after the race?

I would like to do a breakfast, but I am wondering if I won't be passed out... but it is a morning race and other than being tired I should be okay... how about everyone else?

I keep an actual journal...some of it is what I write for my weekly updates hear in the thread.

:thumbsup2I may try to do that to keep my thoughts together! Something to look back to so I can be reminded of how far I came!

I think the reason you are not seeing a lot of races that are over 5K for the summer is because we are still a ways out from summer. Debra and I too are having that issue...but I know in a few months we will have lots to choose from. You may have to widen you search area some. I know I have to look in the Denver, Oklahoma City, Dallas areas for more choices for me.

I am fine going all over, I just HATE city driving! I swear one of these days I am going to accidentally hit someone that runs into the road out of nowhere! i wish I had a bridge to Connecticut and NJ that I didn't have to pass through NYC! haha, my own personal tunnel system would be even better!

I will facebook you the information on the TA...I love her and have used her for both of my trips and will use her again. But JUST DONT GO PYSCO ON HER. You can ask lots of questions and she will be happy to answer them, but allow her to do her job and not tell her how to do her job!

:goodvibes

I am still leaning towards POFQ as my first choice to stay. I really like BC and might still try to rent in August after the Rome trip is over and I can see my budget again. If BCV was meant to be for this trip, then it is meant to be and I will find something in August.

We decided to let damien pick this! It's going to mostly be for him- I am sure Madeline won't care what is there as long as she can play! I want to sit down with him and talk about it... of course only showing him what we can fit in the budget!

I am thinking of using 5K as just a walk warm up to the 10K and PHM...just something fun to do. I think that is how Carol looks at the 5K...how she got Betsy to agree to the 5K before wine and dine.

Well, if you don't have to do any running in it, maybe I will try it! I have to see how far I have come when registration comes up!

As for the sparkleskirts and water bottles, no they cannot hold a water bottle in the pockets. But I have heard of a lot of ladies getting a small flask which will fit in the pocket for their water. :rotfl2: And I am really thinking about trying that...although I might shock a few people when I pull it out! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:rotfl2:My neighbors already thin kI'm nuts.. can't imagine what they'd say with this! In fact it may explain my all around, hyper personality!

As far as the corrals, I am not sure how the 5K or 10K work, but I assume the 1/2 is the same at ToT. You are placed in corrals according to time. I plan on submitting a 10K time so I know I will not end up in the last few corrals. For the ToT I was in the 2nd to last...I had no time to submit because of the stress fracture. Cammy was actually in several corrals ahead of me, but we decided that she would stay at the start with me and was allowed to run in the corral with me...you can move down in corrals but not up. I would hope that all of us are going to be around the same time, so we may end up in same corrals...because I would really like to run together...but we will just have to wait to see how that all plays out. I would like to cross the finish line together...maybe picking out a spot before the race for us all to wait at until everyone arrives...then cross together. I wonder if you can slip back on the other side of the finish line after you finish...whatever happens happens...would love for us all to meet up on the other side and have a group picture, too! Those questions will have to wait to be answered when we get our corral assignments in late January.

Wow, late January... nice to keep us on our toes! That all sounds fine, I am sure though I may be in one of the last 3 corrals... So I may be the one that has to be waited on....

I love the Mulan idea for 5K and you can get Damien to be Mushu!!!!!

That may be something he'd agree too!

As for the expo, I think I was thrown in somewhat of a panic attack upon entering and my nerves where in high gear that I really did not do much but absent mindly wandered around the booths. I cant wait to really enjoy the experience and find all the neat photo opps I have been reading in TRs and Race Blogs...so hoping that this weight is gone and I will get in the pictures.

The race expo has photo opps? That sounds fun! I saw the one from you PTR I think I remember, cannot be sure, my mind runs all over the place and it's hard to keep track :crazy2: And you are doing great with the weight loss! I am right now trying not to put any of the ALMOST 30 POUNDS  I lost during pregnancy... did I mention I couldn't eat/drink anything sweet? Actually I couldn't eat really anything without getting sick in the first 4 months! I want to start trying to lose weight when I get the exercise stuff down!

Here are some ideas Heather...

5K You and Damien could do a Monsters Inc Inspired Costume...

I will see what he says about either this or the Mulan idea! He has these 2 for his Disney Infinity, but he might like the idea of Mushu better!

If you are Mike than you can mix a couple of your pieces into Tiana...

Tiana

I like the idea, but I didn't really want to be a princess either.... i was thinking the mom from Tangled, but I don't know if people would know or think I am Rapunzel herself... I will figure it out... just may take FOREVER!!!

Mulan

I like this outfit!

But I love these shoes!

Heather, one other thing to consider about the expo is that they will NOT allow strollers. Just something to consider with your little one.

yeah, I wasn't going to bring madeline I know she won't like it! But I was thinking Damien. I don't think I am going to though... I'll just pick up the packets for them while I pick up mine and take a look at anything they might like... but thank you!

The race was no pressure to finish & worry about getting swept, but we didn't stop for character pics. Bo doesn't care for characters, so I didn't make him stop. We took a few pics around the World Showcase.

That sounds good! I am thinking about it! I have to see if Damien will do it! I like that it's not a running one!

Definitely submit a 10K or higher race result (make sure it is chip timed). It is nice having a cushion & not having to worry about the balloon ladies.
:rotfl2:Never thought i'd be so scared of people carrying balloons before party: (they kinda look like balloon people)

So should I be a wench? Do any of you have any of those cute picture pull together costume ideas I saw posted on the last page?
I like that idea! Oh, you could dress like one of those ladies that slapped him in the movie:rotfl2:
I have to confess that I just can't keep up right now on this PTR. I am going to eventually go back and read and ask questions and post comments, but lots is going on in my personal life this week (tax season is a given, but mom is in the hospital, my sister is having medical issues, my nephew is having some issues with a friend who just OD'd on alcohol and nutmeg, of all things, and my dad is not paying his bills and runs a business so I have to figure out if I can help him). i didn't know that all of this is going on, I will keep everyone in my prayers! I know that helping family isn't the easiest (in fact sometimes I'd rather help a stranger), but it is personally rewarding that you knew you could do everything to your best for them and you will be repaid- maybe not by money, but somehow sometime! :goodvibes
Anyway, I will eventually catch up on here. Y'all are tempting me to start my own PTR. Like I have time - haha. I'll stick to my travel blog. Link is in my signature, I think (?)
yes it is and the baby is crying so I don't even have anytime for anything, but to finish this and get to her! But I WILL catch up on that!

Off to find a pic of my Hubby.

i love it!!! Looks like he probably had lots of fun and I love that he is really going to grow the beard braid!

RD certainly has its challenges...not sure when you are going, but I had FD while I was there in October. And this year during around the time of PHM there was play-stay-dine packages. Yeah, this is the approach I told K if he wants to come with the kids he will have to work for the cost through is company and give it to me. He agreed and he doesn't kow about discounts :rotfl2: so if something comes out he will feel like he finally won the lottery! If not, he had no idea what he was missing :lmao:

I love my TA and she does a great job! All I want her to do is control my room reservation and watch for discounts. I tell her exactly what I want and she books...and keeps her eye on it for me. That way I can worry about the FUN stuff in planning...ADRs, Cupcake Crawls, attractions...
Do you ever leave your ADR's up to her? I was told that if I use a TA to let them also try for an ADR at the same time as me and cancel the one I don't like!

Joining in. I did the Glass Slipper this year but not sure I want to go again with the group I traveled with, so not sure I will do it again in 2015. I guess I have a couple of months to decide :)

Love all these costume ideas!

I need to start figuring out what would work for me for the ToT Runs.

My husband has insisted he will be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for this run. He is trying to figure out when to start growing out his beard braids LOL. I'll try to find and post a pic of his costume from our New Year's Eve 2006/07 party.

He totally rocks Capt'n Jack!!! Awesome outfit!!!

I keep telling my hubby 'don't forget, you are being a pirate' so he can't get out of it!!!!

He keeps telling me "I'm going to run in one of those green men suits". I told him I will not claim him as my husband if that happens! (he's joking.. I hope!)

I am being a pirate wench... and that's because I will be scantily clothed (sorry to ALL ToT runners) due to heat & humidity! :) I'll put a cross bone tat on my stomach fat & wear a halter top!

Then hubby won't claim me either. Hahahahaha!!! :lmao:

Heather, you asked about being tired after the half, really the best thing you can do is to try & keep moving. After the half I went back to the room & showered, but then we headed off to Epcot. Moving (even if it was slowly) really seemed to help with soreness.

So funny you mentioned these guys party: reminding you of the balloon ladies. I am sure they are very nice ladies, however I NEVER want to meet them. I have a fear of all balloons now...ok, just kidding.

Welcome! I am sure the more the merrier:goodvibes Hopefully you do it again! Don't let others keep you from having a bad experience be your last! You should have a GREAT experience be your last!

:rotfl2:This cracked me up! I am sure you don't look bad, but I am thinking of a picture Tammie posted somewhere I can't remember of Tarzan! I guess he had the same thoughts at last year's TOT!

Well see that's what I am thinking for if I should stay the week after the race with the family... so that I can stretch my legs after the race and I don't just get home and do nothing but unpack and try to get kids back on schedules! The day of I guess isn't a good option to sleep all day  I suppose it would be better then to maybe follow along with the group... especially the cupcakes... I love sweets!

:lmao:I am sure that they are very nice! It's just that I don't want to meet them either! :goodvibes

My cousin kept them company at the Wine & Dine. They are very nice people she said. They kept telling her when she should probably run a little to get ahead of them to avoid the sweep. :)

:goodvibes

Tammie sent me that picture! :) Cracks me up. I thought he was some weird YETI. I didn't think he was Tarzan. Now I do see it though!!!

Joining in. I did the Glass Slipper this year but not sure I want to go again with the group I traveled with, so not sure I will do it again in 2015. I guess I have a couple of months to decide :)

So glad you have you come along. I am excited to have another experienced GSC here to give us advice and tips. So excited for you to run the ToT. EVERYONE is WELCOME here...lots of time to decide on PHM! But know that you have new friends here!

Love all these costume ideas!

I need to start figuring out what would work for me for the ToT Runs.

LOL...I am avoiding spring cleaning...we are on spring break this week and cleaning 1 room a day from top to bottom...once that is done...well you see how I have been passing my time.

Okay now I am sure everyone is dying to see the guy that I saw...and Betsy found a picture on marathon photo to remind me.

ICK ICK ICK ICK...I believe that he was supposed to be Chabaaca from Star Wars. I wish I could find a picture of his girlfriend, whom I heard he proposed to during the race, she was Princess Lela in a very tiny white bikini. :scared1::scared1:

HEATHER

Mulan is a Disney princess. I thought she was, but I 2nd guessed myself and decided to look it up!

I would love to do a princess breakfast after we go back and shower...trust me you will be on a adrenaline high after the race. And if my body treats me like it did after the ToT the last thing I want to do is stop and go to bed. Once I stop my body is in pain! So I am thinking a nice cold shower and dip in a hot tub...and head out to breakfast or brunch.

I wish I would have lost weight during my pregnancy! Ugh, you don't want to know how much I gained. Spring break and this bum ankle are good for the progress I was making. I so like my daily schedule being busy...

I am going to try the flask idea in my side pocket of my sparkle skirt! Maybe a clear one...lol. That should be just enough water for a long run for me.

I thought about the witch?/mother? from Rapunzal but I REALLY AM NOT EVIL...although I still wish I would have thought about being Ursula for ToT. EVIL, CRAZY, LIAR...hmmmm LOL...I am none of them.

TRAVEL AGENT-I sent you her contact information on FB. She is a really sweet girl! Yes, she will book everything including ADRs and tours for you. But I like the thrill of getting up at 5 am and booking the ADRS myself. She will plan everything for you, if you want her too. All I have her do is manage my room reservation package...I tell her my dates, wants for resort, tickets, and meal plan options...then she books what I want and watches for offers. I pay her every month and that is applied to my reservation. She will also do room requests, too. Then she compiles all my paperwork and sends me the final documents well in advance of the trip along with a special thank you gift!
