The other day, in an unrelated thread, someone offhandedly mentioned that she doesn't allow her children to watch Phineas and Ferb. I didn't explore the issue in that thread because it was off-topic, but I got to wondering why parents might consider this show inappropriate. I could only think of a few reasons parents might object to it:

  1. Doofenshmirtz is Eeeevil (but not very good at it).
  2. Phineas and Ferb do not have very much (any?) supervision.
  3. Candace's mother doesn't take her seriously.
  4. The family keeps a non-domestic, protected animal as a pet.

Am I missing reasons that Princess Wigglypants should not view this show?

One of our friends does not let her daughters watch it because Candace yells. Not quite all the time, but close.

I think it's a great show, honestly. Both DS and DD watch it (they turn 7 and 4, respectively, next month), and I confess that I keep some episodes on the DVR so I can watch them again.

Ummmmm....my children are 8 & 11 now but I personally think P&F is hilarious. One of the best shows out there. I detest cartoons where all the characters do is yell at one another and there's no real plot. Nearly any "kid" show that focuses on adventure for kids is missing parental supervision in the show... the family is loving toward each other in their interactions....they aren't mean or malicious at all. Candace tends to be a tattle tale (that would bug me more than that her parents don't take her seriously).

The reasons you listed may be valid, but if those are the parents' concerns, I'm thinking maybe they are taking the show waaaaayyyy too seriously and maybe they shouldn't be letting their kids watch anything. But then again, I let my kids watch Scooby Doo. :scared1:

I grew up with a father who turned off the television if people kissed and parents who would not let me watch Happy Days as a teenager because I might somehow develop a bad attitude.

I have a friend who is really conservative about what her kids watch and they are scared of EVERYTHING. I think she's just very protective of them. My kids tend to be a little more tough-minded and can handle a little bit of "scary." (not that P&F is scary but for some other shows)

If you have concerns or questions, you should watch it yourself and see what you think about it for YOUR child.

LOVE, LOVE this show. It is something the whole family can enjoy together. I don't know what could possibly make it a "banned show??"

I was visiting a friend this summer when the programming on the Disney Channel one morning changed over from "Playhouse Disney" to "Non-Playhouse Disney" (i.e. all of the preschooler shows had gone off and now regular programming was on). The show that immediately follwed the Playhouse Disney block was P&F. Oh, granted it was around 11 a.m.

So my daughter, my husband, and myself had recently started watching P&F, therefore I knew what it was. I hadn;t watched it much, but I never saw anything I disagreed with. I knew that most of the stuff would go over DD's (3) head.

So we watch for a few minutes, and my friend comments, "What is this?' and I told her what it was. And she replied "Oh, I don't let S, watch shows like that, they are too adult."

That was back in July, and I am still pondering that.

Yes, I still let DD watch, and we have really enjoyed the show. We have Disney XD (DirecTV) and I often feel guilty lying in bed at 11 p.m. watching it, knowing that DD has been fast asleep for hours and doesn't get to watch. We've taken to greeting each other in our family with Isabella's
"What 'cha doooin'."

But to answer your question, it could be, quite possibly that some of the theme/ideas presented in the show are too mature for young viewers. However, I as a parent, explain things to my daughter in an age appropriate way that might be too mature or confusing for her when she asks.

IMO, the show does have some funny moments and is far better than many of the cartoons on TV these days.

If they dont let their kids watch Phineas & Ferb then I would guess there is a lot of other shows that they dont let them watch either.

I love Phineas and Ferb. They are great. I don't see anything wrong with the show so hopefully the one mum will hope and board and let us in on her concerns.

I have always taken P and F's actions to be that of their imagination not reality. I see them as safe in the backyard making up stories but that is just me I guess.

I love that it is a boy show, not many of those out there.

I also love Perry, he is great. I want a platypus as a pet. I only have an agent D, agent C, and three lizards so what would you call them?

At first I was worried it was the same dumb humor like Doug Doug & Doug, Cat/Dog, etc. But it's not - it's genius! So funny, and it's great the way the plots intersect with each other all the time. Phin and Ferb are like the young animated versions of what the mythbusters Jamie and Adam were like when they were young.

It's a shame if someone is not letting their children watch that show.

Here, I'll chime in as a parent who HATES this show with a passion. I am not one though who says you can't watch it, I just always change the channel, my daughter doesn't say anything.

Why might you ask, I can not stand the tattle tale. I hate it. Unfortunately I have the kid that thinks whatever one else does is important and needs to let someone know.

So there, that's why. Weird right? But everytime that girl runs to her mother to tell, I just cringe.

We love Phineas and Ferb!! It's a very funny, well-written show. It shows the boys using their *gasp* imaginations!!

Which is why I also love The Backyardigans. LOL

I think the tattletale in P&F is a great object lesson for kids, because it never works out for her when she's doing that, and no one takes her seriously when she's doing that.

It's not like they're promoting the glories of being a tattler.

:thumbsup2Exactly

It is one of the funniest cartoons on TV today, my kids love it, DH and I cracked up, and we are constantly quoting it.

This is pretty much our favorite Disney channel show ever, of all time! The whole family watches it, my 3 year old DD has loved it since she was barely talking and she called it "binneus and berb" I can't really think of a reason it should be "banned" but I suppose it's up to the parents to decide what they do or do not want their kids watching.

I'm just personally not a fan, but I definitely wouldn't ban it. I know that *me* of all people calling it weird is the pot calling the kettle black, but I just don't like it.

Skins (on MTV) would DEFINIELY be banned. What the poop was MTV thinking?!!!

Oh, Barney is banned, too annoying. ;)

Love Phineas and Ferb!

We bought the Christmas DVD...can't listen to "we wish you a Merry Christmas" without laughing at Doofinshmirtz "ooh is that a threat?" hahaha

Love Phineas and Ferb, wishing I could find more on DVD.

I'm okay with Phineas and Ferb, They show my kids can't watch is SpongeBob Square Pants.
