What foods do they sell in Phillu grocery stores that you can't get anywhere else.. My ex is bringing me pork roll and Tasty cakes...Is there any thing else I should request

I'm not sure how limited to Philly these are, but I know these food items are popular around here:
Scrapple
Sweet Lebanon Bologna
Real Philadelphia Butter Cake (it's a sheet type cake with a buttery crystalized glaze that has a buttery, gooey, creamy, filling that lays on top of the cake and is somewhat in the cake)
Shoo Fly Pie
Amorosa Steak Rolls
Real Italian Water Ice, but I doubt it would make the trip ;)

And Genuardi's Chocolate Torte coffee freshly ground at the store, or the whole coffee beans!

I'm afraid of Scrapple, but he's getting the butter cake and the coffee

I think it's a good thing to be afraid of scrapple! LOL!

I swear, that coffee is the best in the world of flavored coffees. If he goes to the Acme too he can get another great coffee: Bucks County Coconut coffee! Oh my gosh, strong and flavorful (as is the Chocolate Torte), but with a toasted coconut taste. Fantastic! :thumbsup2 I'm not sure if all Acmes carry it though.

Goldberg's Peanut chews (candy bar)
Herr's products--not sure if you have them there. Its a local company to the Pennsylvania area.

I will second the Philly soft pretzels. I live within walking distance to a soft pretzel factory store and it smells fabulous!

I think this is the meanest thread tonight. I am thinking of reporting ya'll!!

oh my gosh I think you have the best stuff covered
Pork Roll, Butter Cake (the real deal stuff), scrapple (dipped in flour and fried crispy), tasty cakes (I don't think as good any more), soft pretzels. You'll gain ten pounds.

OMG my childhood is coming back to me. Someone make me a care package and ship it to the midwest! :rotfl:

Actually, I'll confess, I have purchased tastykakes directly from tastykake online. My kids are hooked and think TastyKakes are quite a treat. The Butterscotch Crimpets and Peanut Butter KandyKakes are just soooooo good.

I make my own shoo fly pie, so that is taken care of!

Now if only I can figure out how to ship scrapple... Yeah, I know, ya have to have grown up with it to love it! :thumbsup2

I second Amorosa's rolls (bread) - Italian breads just don't taste the same anywhere else!

Scrapple rules!

Yes it does. By the time I was old enough to know what I was being feed, I was hooked!

Did I tell all you PHILLY folks, I'm working on moving back to the 'burbs! Hopefully my house will sell quickly and I'll be there for the new school year... but if not whenever!

Freeze it and overnight it, or ship with dry ice. I always have my mother bring me Hatfield Canadian bacon when she comes down, she freezes it before hand. She was not coming for a few months at one point, and Acme had a BOGO sale, so she shipped it to me (where is the cost savings here? - My mom just LOVES me!) with one of the freezer packs in the box!

You can take-out cheese steaks and hoagies. Cold Hoagies are easy. Some cheese steak places will wrap each ingredient individually to ship. Don't know how it will taste.

We don't go to the grocery store in Philly. We go to the Ac-a-me.:goodvibes

I'm hooked on Wawa's Sweet Iced Tea right now :)

Yep - the Ac-a-me - not Akme - Ac-a-me!

If plans work right when we first move back north I'll be renting an apt across the street from an Ac-a-me until we find a house

Ac-a-me...:rotfl: I thought that was a Jersey thing!!! Thought pork roll was too..."Taylor Ham"...Trenton...no?...close enough right?...hop, skip and jump over the river...

When I worked in PA...WaWa was very big for coffee...we ran out all the time for cappucino...

OK, I am babbling now...got very excited from this thread!!!
