Hi everyone! I got some pretty good news from my Doctor tonight. I do indeed have an aggravated PF (good to have that confirmed), but it isn't what he considers really terrible. He asked me if I want to run the marathon and I told him "Yes!" and he said I should be able to with some level of discomfort. He prescribed a non-inflamatory and gave me over a months worth of samples. He said I can take Tylenol with it, not Advil or Aleve. I will take one a day for as long as it takes.

The Doctor thinks that the PF will mostly clear up with conscientious stretching before and after runs, the anti-inflamatory medicine and using the Tylenol as needed. He told me to "Run!". He doesn't think I will cause it further harm/damage if I run, which was a welcome comment. :thumbsup2 He did say that if I get through the Phila. Marathon and have issues afterwards with the PF, he will refer me to a Podiatrist.

So, now I need to figure out when I can run next, how long, etc. Look Out Baby I'M BACK! I think I need to do one of my patented anti-tapers, then taper again. ;)

:grouphug:

Howard

Just a quick Hey to everyone.

Cindy - I hope that you and your kitty are feeling better.

Howard - Glad to hear you are medically cleared to run. Remember though, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Be smart!

It's good to see everyone else getting their proverbial panties in a bunch about race weekend. You all can worry that way I don't have to.

On second thought, I do have a worry that hasn't been addressed yet. Lou, I want to make sure to get an official cheese steak. What's the best bet for Saturday lunch or Sunday after the race?

Weather-schmeather! It's all about the grub!

Hey, everyone! Just jumping in to clarify that everyone can arrive at our house as early as they'd like (especially if you want a non-hotel, non-expo type of place to hang out Saturday). I think everyone said shooting for 4pm to get started on dinner is good.

If everyone would chime in here once more about whether they are coming, I'll do a PM to each person with good, solid, easy directions (complete with landmarks :goodvibes )

Can't wait to see everyone!

Improving forecast:banana:

Howard - :dance3: So glad you're okay to get back at it:cheer2:

Cindy - Sorry your cat's not doing to well. How'd the vet's gopopcorn::

Cam - I'm in for Saturday and I'm good with directions:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see you too:love:

Lou - Thanks for all of the great info:yay: . Love, love, love the pretzels:cloud9: .

Colleen - Nice job on your LR:cool1: . Funny you mention Chicago's post-marathon grub being weak. I thought the same thing about MCM and WDW's is pretty lame too. I guess the larger the marathon the less likely you are to get a good choice of food offerings:confused: . From what Lou says, we may be pleasantly surprised in the city of brotherly love:)

Mike - No worries:goodvibes it's all good here:thumbsup2

The DVR is keeping me from the TM this morning, as well as :surfweb: so I"m going to say rest day today:confused3 . I will attempt a LR this weekend;)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone:grouphug:

Howard - I'm so happy for your good news!!:cool1:

Dave - I'm also happy to hear you had a good run.

Colleen - Matt and I are definitely in for something after the race - we are staying in Philly on Sunday night.

Cam - Confirming that Matt and I are in for dinner.

Chester - I realized we never discussed this at the Yeti like I said we would, but would you still like a ride?

Sara - Thanks for the forecast update - much better!

Lou
- Thanks for being our info man.

Everyone - Thanks for all the good wishes for me and my kitty.

So, I ended up having to have Matt come home from work to go to the vet because I started getting really sick again. Apparently just because I felt like I could eat normally again did not mean I actually should :sad2:

Anyway, I was kind of anxious about the vet because last time we took a cat to the vet, we got a $1400 bill and the cat never came home:sad1:

So at least this visit was much improved over that one. The vet did all sorts of blood work, x-rays, gave him some anti nausea medicine, antacids, some under skin fluids for dehydration, etc., etc. And of course, we still don't know what's wrong.:sad2: He still hasn't eaten and threw up twice, so I guess we'll call the vet this morning again.:confused3

As for me, I'm actually feeling better once again (after feeling much worse in the middle of the day yesterday). I'm debating whether or not I should go into work or work from home.

Just jumping in to clarify that everyone can arrive at our house as early as they'd like (especially if you want a non-hotel, non-expo type of place to hang out Saturday).
Cam - We'll be there Thursday around 9AM. Thanks!

We're in for 5 for dinner. Unless you've changed your mind about me and my little harem (Trust me. I'd think twice before I'd let me in my house.)

Cindy - Sorry about your cat. We have three at home and I know the deal when it comes to the vet. Glad you're feeling better...stay home from work.

Howard - Glad you got the OK to run. Just take it easy the next 8 days and you should be fine. I'll be popping Tylenol after I get to Mile 8 or so. The groin strain problem usually kicks in for me around Mile 16 so I'll need something to get through the last 10 miles....besides beer.

Chester - Looking forward to meeting you for once instead of just watching you run by in the green shorts. Good luck tapering.

Dave - The dreaded flu shot. My doctor begged me to get one this year. How did we survive growing up. Don't worry about your condition. You have plenty of miles under your belt and you'll have plenty of adrenaline to handle the rest.

Colleen - No problem...I'll figure out a place to hang. As for getting to PHL. Are you one of those people that gets there 2 hrs before the flight? Are you cabbing it to PHL? If so, it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to PHL from Center City.

Mike - If you are picking up your race bib on Saturday then you can grab a cheesesteak from Rick's Steaks at the Reading Terminal. The Terminal is right across the street from the convention center. Rick's is near the corner of 12th & Arch. Can't miss it. Not much in terms of cheesesteaks near the race finish. If the group wants to road trip it we could drive down to South Philly and grab Pat's and/or Geno's. I'll have my minivan and could hold 6. We could also hit a bar/restaurant in the neighborhood. Just an idea.

Cam - We are on for your place around 4PM. Let me know how to get there from the Rowan University area (08094).

Sara - Don't worry about the weather. We'll be fine.

5 miles @ 9mpm today. Nothing special other than I felt pretty decent. I'm too jacked up about the race just yet. It will hit me on Friday when I get to the expo. I planned a breakfast meeting next Friday just so I could be in the city. I'll be jacked when I see the expo around noon.

Lou

:rotfl:

Cam, I am catching a ride with Sara, so I assume we will be there after a cheesesteak sandwich lunch (for me, veggie delite for her) and the expo.
Are you all for real with the cheesesteaks:rolleyes1 ? Granted, I'll be pretzels and mustard all weekend:yay: but how well can those cheesesteaks sit in your gut:sad1:? You guys are kidding, right:scared1:? I'm getting a little nauseous just thinking about it now:rotfl:  Brings back memories of when I went to the Dallas game and the nasty, nasty food that was being consumed there as well:scared:

Sara - Fear not...you can add veggies (fried onions and mushrooms) to them if you need some nutrition. :lmao: To be honest, I am more of a Primo's Hoagies kind of guy. One bite of an Old Italian hoagie (sharp provolone, bruschuto, etc.) and you'll get all of the salt back in your body that you lost during the race.

Let's talk expo.

I think Jodi already asked this, but when is everyone going? (Lou I guess you are going on Friday) Matt and I aren't getting to Philly until Saturday, is everyone else getting in on Friday? Anyone planning on going in the middle of the day on Saturday?

Let's talk expo. I think Jodi already asked this, but when is everyone going?

Yes, Cindy, I did ask this question & was completely ignored!:snooty: . Anywho, our train gets in @ noon. We'll dump out stuff off @ the hotel & head straight to the expo - I suppose that means we'll be there about 1p.m. I'm all for getting a PhillyCheeseThing @ Reading station (reminds me of Monopoly..."take a ride on the Reading"!). Hope you stayed home & that your belly & your cat feel better.

Mike - RU & Kathy & the kids arriving in Philly Fri or Sat? Staying @ Embassy Suites? I know, we've gone over all of this b4....

Howard - SUCH good news, but perhaps you shouldn't run too much at all before the 23rd? I've gone with this theory before & it works fine for me  . Don't aggravate it more!

Cam - HI! Since you're still going through with this dinner I will warn you that Bruce & I are in & can't wait!

Dave - So happy your run went well :woohoo:  . Don't worry about the conditioning, your body will remember it all come marathon day & serve you well. Um, are you still going to drive Bruce & I to Cam's?:rolleyes1 We're staying @ the same hotel, right? What time are you getting into Philly, wanna walk over to the expo with us? Chester & Cindy, too!

Chester - You & Tracy are staying @ Embassy Suites as well, right? We should all expo it together!

Sara - ARGHHH!! Stop posting the weather, you're driving me NUTS!:rotfl2: I'm trying NOT to freak out this time around, but you continue to torture me!

Lou - Thanks for being the resident expert on Philly here. I can't play afterward, but have a beer for me with the rest of the lushes on this thread :rotfl: popcorn:: . I can't believe that dude doodied in his pants @ mile 5...but that is really funny:lmao: .

Colleen - I looked @ the poop guy on Youtube & nearly barfed! That was so heinous!! What would posses you to to just keep running & not find a freakin' portapotty or woods somewhere. I also felt compelled to click on a link showing Paula Radcliffe pulling over & peeing on the side of the road during some marathon! :scared1: nice.

Jen - Did you get a run in this a.m.?

I'll run this afternoon since it was raining this a.m. Maybe 5,6 or something :rolleyes1 . Bruce keeps telling me it's going to be cold & snowing on the 23rd!:confused3 . What a butthead!

To the best of knowledge:laughing: Colleen, Howard and I will be tackling the expo on Saturday around midday. That is if a bunch of snow doesn't delay Colleen's flight into PHL:rotfl: :rotfl2: (that comment's just for Jodi:hippie: )

Yes, my flight gets in at 10:30 a.m. (weather permitting). I will be STARVING and need to eat around 11:00 or 12:00, b/c I have to get up 4:30 or 5:00 a.m. to catch my flight Saturday morning.

As for the cheesesteak, I am more of a French Beef Dip au jus kind of gal.:snooty: I am so anemic, I CRAVE red meat especially when I am training for marathons (or pregnant)!:rotfl:

I think Matt and I will be aiming to arrive in Philly around noon and then check into hotel. So we would definitely be up for walking over to the expo with others.

I'm actually at work (and feeling pretty good, thankfully) because Matt decided to stay home with the kitty (our condo is small - I knew it would be hard for me to get work done with him there). I just spoke with Matt and the vet is actually going to admit him (the cat, not Matt) to the animal hospital:sad2: They need to get him hydrated and nourished, so hopefully this is good.

Greetings Everyone:

Cindy- I WISH you all the best for your cat. I hope the little guy is OK, and get's well soon. I've been missing mine lately. I may have to start looking into kittens, but I don't think that will happen until after the holidays.

OK, I'm driving in Friday after work. I think it's a 6 hour drive for me, and I have meetings up until 4:30p. I was thinking I could get away at noon, but I guess not. So I'll be getting in late Friday evening.

I would definitely be into going over to the expo with everyone. I'm at the Embassy Suites too, all by my lonesome (in the room at least).

And yes, I definitely want to sample an authentic Philly cheesesteak.

Chester - I realized we never discussed this at the Yeti like I said we would, but would you still like a ride?

Cindy
Yes, Tracy would still like to ride with you and Matt. You can talk cats with Tracy during the ride. We have 6 that live indoors with us and 1 that is an outside only cat.

We will arrive too late on Friday to make it to the Expo, so it would work out good to head over with you in the early afternoon. I'll PM you my cell number so we can find each other at the hotel.

Chester
