I'm going to chalk all of the crazy talk up to taper madness:confused3 Really, I don't want those visuals haunting me for the next week:rotfl: I'm all about commando in tights if you're a CHICK:bride: but if you're not then you're putting WAY too much out there in tights:rolleyes1 sans shorts.

Cindy - Sorry you're feeling so badly:hug: but at least you're getting past it THIS week. I love my race ready bike shorts:cloud9: . I think you'll be fine in your capris even in those temps:thumbsup2 .

Colleen - Jeff really is the only spouse NONE of us have ever met, am I rightpopcorn:: ? Glad he's stepping up for the January race even though I won't be there:sad1: .

Gotta go watch the You Tube video now;) Just yoga today - back at it tomorrow with a few miles:yay: I'm diligently praying twice daily for all of our injured team members but I always giggle since I don't know Steve's last name so I'm praying for Steve Chick Pea:rotfl: I guess I should pray that he even shows up at this point:rotfl2: Jen - you're still in, rightpopcorn:: ? Have a great evening:grouphug:

Cindy: sorry to hear about the stomach bug, that sucks :sad1: hopefully it is just a 24 hours thing

Lou: thanks for the course description, I like to know where I'm going and exactly what I'll be running by, I think that's why I like the Disney races so much, it feels familiar to me... I'm hoping the packets will have a bit more detail about the course too.

Dave: I'll chime in with everyone on the don't injure yourself message. I also wanted to say nice job on the keys to the kingdom review-- I'm a little behind on my podcasts and just heard it.

Theta: I'm not paying any attention to weather reports I don't like, there will be only sun for MY races :rolleyes1

Chester: the 10-12mpm pace suits our family just fine. Butch tends to run at around 10mpm and I tend to be closer to 12, so you may just run into us a few times (more likely Butch and I'll be slowly and steadily bringing up the rear).

I'm feeling ok after my long run, I can only wish I was going to start a taper but I'm really just starting to ramp up for miles. This race is basically a LR for my WDW full training. I'm going to run the half in Philia because it is so close to home and running 13 in a race is way more fun that 13 on the TM in my basement. The really good new of the day is that we now have a babysitter for race day :cool1:

I'm all about commando in tights if you're a CHICK:bride: but if you're not then you're putting WAY too much out there in tights:rolleyes1 sans shorts.
Sara - You know, you may be giving some of those tight wearers way too much credit. All this macho running stuff overcompensating for certain, shall we say "shortcomings"? Present company excluded, of course!! (Notice the apropos use of the "Dancing Banana"?)

Cindy - Feeling better? Be sure to stay hydrated. Sports drink of preference would be a good choice.

Jodi - Thankfully you're here to give anti-crappin' your pants advice. Maybe you could get the gig with Lou and further jazz up the Philly website with timely "Your Bowels and You" tidbits.

Colleen - So, how'd Jeff take the news that you registered him for the full? Has he been running any?

Jen - Any training run that gives you a medal and some goodies at the end is better than a TM run in the basement. Heck, come to think of it I'd probably give back a medal or two of mine just so I didn't have to do a TM run in the basement!

Howard - Still resting the tootsie?

What Ho! to everyone else out there in cyberworld.

I got a decent 8+ miles in this evening. I'm feeling pretty pleased about it. Not because it was a stellar run or anything, but because it would have been extremely easy to talk myself out of going out at all. Those are the best ones as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going to stay home sick from work today for the first time ever (seriously). Still feeling really terrible. My stomach seems less upset, but I've got the fever/chills/dizziness/achy thing going on. Poor Matt:sad2: My illness seems to be timed so that I should be feeling fine by the marathon, but if he catches something from me . . . He slept on the couch last night.

If the marathon had been today or yesterday, there is absolutely no way I could have run it. That's a really hard thing to realize after training so hard for so many months.

Cindy - Glad you bit the bullet and decided to stay home:sick: . I hope you take advantage of the opportunity to rest as much as possible and kick this thing real soon:sad2: . Adding you to the prayer list:thumbsup2

Mike - Love your use of the dancing banana;) You definitely get extra credit for putting in the miles when there was no motivation to do so:cheer2: .

Jen - Congrats on finding a sitter for race day:yay: . I also like WDW races due to familiarity of the course:cloud9: .

Krista - Glad to see you're lurking over here and thanks for coming out of the shadows to post:) . Loved the Carter pics on the MCM thread:love: .

Everyone else - :wave2:

I ran a bit this morning but my stomach's been off all week as well:scared: . Not sure what's going on but it's definitely impeding my desire to put in the miles this week:confused3 . Luckily, that doesn't stress me out too much  Have a great day:grouphug:

I'm going to stay home sick from work today for the first time ever (seriously).

That is a tough thing to think about, I know some of our Bots have missed marathons they've trained for in the past. If Matt does catch this lurgie, I would think it'd be in the next day or so, therefore making him poop-safe for the marathon that is still 10 days away;) . I'm glad you stayed home from work today, but I'm finding you more & more frightening when you post things like the above :scared1: . Between your running & work ethic there is just no way we can associate with one another anymore   . Feel better soon!

Mike - Nice job on that 8 miles!:thumbsup2 , I agree, those runs you have to talk yourself into doing are the most gratifying...I should know! Are the kiddies all geared up for a road trip??:yay: :cutie:

Thetaleen - I haven't watched the pooping marathon guy video yet, but will today...I'm so excited!! Anymore :teacher: in your near future?:scared1:

Sara - Did you get those miles in this a.m.?

Jen - 13 miles on the dreadmill?????:scared1:  That'd be sucky. Glad you're able to get to Philly & that you've finally found a babysitter. I mean, I'm sure your daughter would have been fine for the day if you left the t.v. on & all, but it's nice to know she has some company :rotfl2: .

Got my lazy butt outta bed @ 5:15 this a.m. & got a quick (well, not so quick) 4 miles in. I really have to keep reminding myself how much better I feel when I run in the a.m. Sets the tone for the entire day.

Um, is anyone else a little nervous about the lack of posting from ChickPea and now Howard? What gives??:confused3

Colleen - So, how'd Jeff take the news that you registered him for the full? Has he been running any?

Oops, I guess I should have told him!:confused3

Yes, we were tossing about the idea of him coming to either Philly or Disney, but it is very hard to leave the kids with no family here in NC. I still don't know where or with whom we will be leaving the kids for the weekend.popcorn:: Our one tried and true babysitter (that we would consider hiring for an overnight stint) went off to college last year. I may ask her if she will come back for the weekend. I may even ask my mother to fly down for a visit...

As for the running, yes Jeff has been training for a half marathon, I think the race is the first weekend in December. I told him to better start ramping up soon.:rotfl: He is also good with hanging back with me if he can't get the miles in to run a decent personal time.

Cindy, so sorry you are feeling cruddy. Get better soon, drink lots and rest girl.

Off for my final LR, I have 9 or 10 planned for today since I missed it this past weekend b/c of the kid's swim meet. It is raining here so it may be a treadmill.

Hi guys! Nothing good to report here. :sad2:

No running, not training, etc. :sad2: :sad2:

After spending about 12 hours on my feet yesterday at a blood drive at the University of Delaware, my left foot hurt like carp :thumbsup2 . I was hobbling around and it felt like it could be broken. I had to walk on the outside edge of the foot to try to relieve the pain I felt with each step. I took a couple Advil and went to bed for the night. I woke up this morning with it feeling better. Hardly no pain at all. :confused3

My lovely wife (Cam) :lovestruc has convinced me to seek medical assistance with my foot issue. I called the Doc and he is over-booked for tonight so I am on a waiting list. I may just go to the 24 hour emergency medical place to get looked at, possibly get an anti-inflamatory prescribed and get a precautionary X-ray taken.

I am still using the arch support during the day here in the office and it seems to alleviate some pain and discomfort. It looks as if the marathon is in jeopardy, at least turning in a time that shows my hard work and training is probably out of the question at this point. I'll see where I am with all of this soon. popcorn:: I will look forward to Disney's 5K, and Goofy.

I'll keep you all posted.

Cindy~ I hope you feel better really soon!

Mike~ I am all over the commando with tights look. :thumbsup2 Let me know if we need to coordinate styles, brands, colors, etc. Perhaps you can resurrect the tights and skirt look? Hmm?

:grouphug:

Howard

Aww, dude, I'm so sorry to hear that you are in such pain :grouphug: :sad1: . You've gotta get in for an x-ray ASAP. If Philly can't happen, it can't happen, you kicked some serious butt @ MCM, so rest easy with that thought for a bit. And if things don't improve soon I wouldn't run Philly just to do it, you may end up injuring yourself more seriously & that would really suck. Please pop Advil diligently & rest.

Howard - Thanks for checking in:hug: . Cam is a very smart woman:love: Loads of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you getting into a doc and getting some answers or at least some relief:sad1: Glad to see your spirits are still up since you're contemplating your wardrobe coordination with the boys for the marathon:rotfl: Please keep us updated because it goes without saying that we're all terribly concerned:grouphug:

I wanted to WISH you well Howard. Let us know how everything goes at the doctor's.

Chester- how are you doing out there? Are you still on our list of "walking wounded".

Cindy- I hope you're feeling better.

Howard - Please keep us updated because it goes without saying that we're all terribly concerned:grouphug:

Yes, what Sara said.

It is very difficult to drop out of a marathon from an injury. I was beside myself when I dropped out of MCM 07 after getting two solid 16 milers in. But it was for the best, I had to learn my body was telling me something.

Cindy, are you better this afternoon? I hope you are resting.

So Jodi, did you see the poopy marathoner yet? Poor guy, now that is hardcore ...or just stupid.

I got my 10 dreadmill miles in this morning. It wasn't too bad, I am definitely in taper mode for the next 10 days.

Lou, a few more questions.

1. So there are no corrals for the marathon, correct?

2. Golly, I don't even know what time the marathon starts, I assume 7:00 a.m. If so, what time should a person arrive to the start area, keeping in mind I like to make multiple stops to the porta-potty before hand. In 4 marathons, I was lucky enough to not have a Jodi-stop in any of them.

3. Are the water stops frequent...wait a minute if it is going to be 24 degrees, what ever they have will be enough, I am not carrying water for fear it will turn to ice.

4. What about the finish line. Will they have decent food or am I going to have to pack a PB&J sandwich? Chicago was terrible. They only had old, cold biscuits, blah., no fruit, no muffins, no nuthin'.

5. Have you/we decided on a meeting place for the after the marathon?

Thanks for the concern everyone! The Doc's office called and a 5:15 PM appointment just opened up. More later on..

Howard - I'm so sorry to hear you are in so much pain, but I'm really happy to hear that you are seeing a doctor. At this point, the best you can do is to know what is going on. I'll be thinking about you and hoping you get good news at 5:15

Between your running & work ethic there is just no way we can associate with one another anymore   . Feel better soon!

Um, what work ethic? I spend half my day on this thread:rotfl:

Unfortunately, no rest for me yet. There are issues with a filing that has to be made today so I've been at the computer all day. At least I'm wearing slippers and PJs! Also, I'm able to eat normally again, so I'm pretty sure I'm on the mend.

In the not so happy news department, Matt and I have been concerned about one of our cats - he hasn't seemed to be acting normally for a few days. However, now that I am home all day, I'm really worried - he hasn't eaten anything and he keeps throwing up foamy stuff. So, I'm headed to the vet at 4. Poor kitty.

:sad1: Sorry to hear about your putty-tat. :wizard: Sending pixie poop, let us know. Happy you're feeling better. Can't believe you're working from home!:scared1:

Dave
I still haven't tried to run yet after my 2 week rest. Miranda has a soccer game tonight, so I'll try the legs out on Saturday and Sunday. I'm not really worried about whether I'll be able to finish. I ran the Everest Expedition, the Race for the Taste and the Tower of Terror while "wounded" and there is only mild pain for the first couple of miles - after that, something else starts hurting more. But, I do want to make sure that I can jump right into the Goofy training after Philly.

Colleen
The Philly website says that there will be corrals this year. Your race number will be indicative of the corral you'll be placed in based on your estimated finish time submitted with the race application.

Cindy
I hope your kitty is o.k.. And, I hope you're feeling better too. Take it easy when start running again. You may be more weakened than you realize.

Jen
I'll be disappointed if Butch doesn't pass me somewhere around 20 miles. I'm starting to get used to the "young whippersnapper" passing me at the most trying parts of the races. As for you, If I don't see you during the race, I'll look forward to seeing you at the end and cheering you to a finish.

Sara
What's wrong with men wearing tights. I'm planning on breaking out my David Lee Roth limited edition striped glitter tights. :scared1:

Jodi, Jodi, Jodi
This has been a banner scatologically charged week here. You must be so proud.

Howard
Good luck with the Doc. I hope there's nothing serious wrong.

Lou
Looking forward to meeting you in person after all this time. Good luck tapering.

Happy training to all,

Chester

Hey Everyone: I actually had a pretty good run today. My hip was a little sore and tight, but not too bad all and all. My DW is at a conference in Washington DC until Tuesday, so I had to come home from work early to get the girls off the bus. I ran 4 loops around my 1.25 mile neighborhood for 5 miles. Every loop, I walked when I got back to my house. I wanted to intentionally take it easy, and get myself to 5 miles. It wasn't too bad. I finished in ~48 min, around 9:40 mpm. Man, I felt really out of shape though. It felt like my endurance was just gone. Oh wait, I just remembered I had a flu shot on Tuesday. Maybe that's why I felt run down. Yeah, that's it... that's the ticket.

WOW...a serious amount of activity the past few days! Everyone must be getting jacked up as we approach race day.

HEY EVERYONE!!

Answer to Colleen's questions...

1. So there are no corrals for the marathon, correct?

No corrals last year. I assume the same again this year.

I believe it's a 7AM start. I got there about 6:15AM last year. If it's cold (and it will be), I expect to park as close to the start as possible and hang in the warm car until close to race time. Does anyone want to meet before the race? We can discuss that on Sat night.

3. Are the water stops frequent...wait a minute if it is going to be 24 degrees, what ever they have will be enough, I am not carrying water for fear it will turn to ice.

I'm carrying water this time. Not for the lack of stops but so that I do not have to stop at a water station for a while. I like having a water bottle.

4. What about the finish line. Will they have decent food or am I going to have to pack a PB&J sandwich? Chicago was terrible. They only had old, cold biscuits, blah., no fruit, no muffins, no nuthin'.

I remember that they had hot chicken broth last year. I'm certain there will be soft pretzels and the usual marathon grub (bagels, bars, fruit, etc.). I don't remember the food being memorable but I can't say it was bad either.

5. Have you/we decided on a meeting place for the after the marathon?

Is anyone actually hanging around? Again, if we are going to be together on Sat night we can discuss some options...based on who hangs around. There are not a ton of places within close walking distance. If we are just looking for beers I can come up with a list of close bar/restaurants.

I think it was Colleen who said she saw a guy in that marathon video with poopy pants. Funny story from last year (from my point of view)...I passed some old guy during Philly 2007 around Mile 5 and he had a serious accident could no longer be contained in his shorts. :lmao: Runners were telling him to bail out in one of the local sporting good stores to get some back up shorts. I'd be impressed if that man ran another 21 miles in those shorts. Sorry about that.

No running for me today. I was afraid I had Cindy's lower G.I. bug and bailed. I'll get out there tomorrow.

Lou

Lou

Oh, I hope so!!! My flight isn't until 7:30 p.m. I booked it later so we could sit around for lunch and beer and share war stories.popcorn::

Which reminds me, Lou, what time will I need to head to the airport to catch my 7:30 flight?

Chester: the "young whippersnapper" laughed loudly at being called a whippersnapper and says to reassure you that this time you won't get passed-- we are running the 1/2 in Philia as a training run and saving our 1st full marathon for WDW, so look out at mile 20 in Orlando, but you'll be way ahead in Philadelphia

Howard: I hope all went well at the doctors and they are able to speed the healing of your foot

Cindy: sending some good wishes to your kitty

What time is the dinner at Cam's? I'm not sure of our plans and probably couldn't stay long but would love to meet everyone so am on the fence about the whole thing.

I'm wussing out of running tonight, just way too tired :sad2: I nodded off twice watching a video with DD before tucking her into bed, hopefully with some sleep I'll be able to get a few miles in tomorrow and still have time to buy some warmer running clothes...
