Cindy - Glad your chest is feeling better....:lmao: I dunno, just sounds funny to say. Seriously though, happy you seem to be healing so quickly.:confused3 Nice job on the 8:thumbsup2 . Um, save me & DS a spot next to you while you're wandering around AK...this new clue leaves me clueless...again :rotfl2: .

Sara - Sorry you can't make the PDR, hope all's well. RU going to get the rain up there, too?

Colleen - Must be raining pretty hard there by now. RU close to the shore or inland? Should I already know that? Thanks for sending the remnants up here...not sure who Hurricane Dike is though :lmao: :rotfl: . Sorry your boy's having trouble, that sucks. Spencer goes to a private school, he's in 8th grade now. He went to public schools thru 5th, then I sent him here, to Roadside Academy. Next year he'll go back to public h.s. I just felt between 6-8 grades was the right time for him to be challenged. Not that he's a wizkid or anything, but the grammar ps system here is a joke. He breezed thru it with nary a nights worth of studying. It's a totally different story @ this school. It's great 'cause there are only 7 kids in the 8th grade! Financially, though, it can be a burden. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to him going back to the pschools next year. Any decent choices for private schools near you?

Yeah, 12 on tap for tomorrow in the hurricane....we'll see popcorn:: .

Wait so Jodi, Colleen, and Sara have not signed up for the marathon yet? What the heck have I gotten myself in for? I thought you all had signed up already. Get movin' girls. I signed up on Sept. 3rd because it was the last day before the rates went up again. I would have alerted you if I knew you didn't sign up yet.

DANG IT!! The friggin' rates went up again??? WTH?? ARGHHHH. I'll be there, I've already got my train tickets & room!! Now if I can just afford the entry fee!!!:headache:

Dave - I've already lost registration money for both the ATM and PDR this Fall so I need to go last minute with Philly:rotfl: . If I could just get past my self-imposed drama then perhaps I could actually commit to and attend a destination endurance event:rotfl2: . I can see the finish line, per se, so I do see Philly as a pretty sure bet for November:thumbsup2

Colleen - Really, if you pull the trigger on the registration then I am right behind you girl:thumbsup2 . My DD11 was real nervous about middle school but she seems to be doing okay. Sorry to hear your DS is having a hard time with it:hug: .

Cindy - So glad your chest is feeling better:banana: (does that sound weird?)!

Jodi - I think we're getting 2-4 inches of rain in the a.m.:headache: Best of luck with those 12 tomorrow :yay: I'm kind of feeling blessed that I don't "have" to do a LR this weekend if the weather's bad. However, since I'm traveling most of next week I would be wise to get a good LR in on Sat or Sun:laughing: . Is packing considered cross training:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: ?

Have a great weekend!

Wait so Jodi, Colleen, and Sara have not signed up for the marathon yet?
Add me to the list of those that haven't plopped down the dough yet. No worries though. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Colleen - Sorry to hear DS isn't enjoying middle school so far. DD11 actually had a pretty easy transition into middle school last year and seems pretty happy with things so far this year. Every school is different I guess.

I too am a little confused about hurricaine Dike.

Cindy - Glad to see your feeling better. Still take care though.

Jodi - My panchos are all dried out from Florida. Want me to send one up for your run?

Sara - Go for the local race. It sounds like your plenty ready.

Well, I covered 10 miles this morning. It wouldn't really be right to call it a long run. More accurately, a travesty, an insult to the distance running community, something like that. I'll try again in a few days.

Don't worry Dave, I am definitely in Philly! I am really PO'd that I missed the reduced registration though.:surfweb:

Jodi, Dike is missing us completely. We are just north of Charlotte and have grey skies this morning, but no percip.

Have a great weekend everyone!

OK, I ran my 10 miles (yes it was supposed to be 12) and am so done for the day! It sucked, but it's over. It's soooo humid out & we're waiting for the Hanna 'Ho to hit later this afternoon!

Sara - Yes, packing is cross training. In my world, watching tv is cross training!

Colleen - Glad the hurricanes seem to be missing you & am glad to hear you're in Philly no matter what. I too don't know how I keep missing these changes in price  .

Mike - Sounds like your 10 was like mine  . Glad we're soiling the good name of distance running together!

I think I'm done with running... I'll do Philly then take a big old break. I like 1/2s, but fulls are way too much training & stuff.

Quick drive-by post - I did 14 miles this morning in 2:11:37/9:24 mpm. I felt really strong out there even after having a really tough first week of work. Gotta run and take DD10 princess: to tae kwon do.

Hey guys,

This was a crazy week with coming home from DL, school starting, and a pile of work to do. I lost track of this thread but I'll catch up next week.

Howard - I think if I project your training out in the future you should weigh 150 pounds and be running 5-minute splits by Philly 2009.

Sara - You're out for PDR? I definitely missed that post. What happened?

Mike - Good job getting in 10 miles. What happened? I take it I missed an injury post sometime last week.

Cindy - Sorry to hear about the chest injury but it sounds like it's not serious...that's good.

Colleen - We send our kids to Catholic school if you want to consider that private. For what I pay in taxes in NJ I question every year why we do it. We do like the discipline and having a standard uniform makes getting ready in the AM a lot easier. Thanks again for MCM!

Hurricane Jodi - Have fun on your 12 mile run but be careful. Make sure to bring a life jacket with you.

Dave - I know I saw somewhere that you are all in for Philly. Look forward to meeting you.

Chester - Sorry for not catching up with you in DL. However, I did manage to see you as you approached the finish line. I recognized the green cave man shorts. I was the guy with the knee wrapped in ice that screamed out "CHESTER!". You were totally in a zone and didn't even flinch.

Hello Steve, and others I may have missed.

No running to report for me this week due to knee problem. It's the longest I have gone without running in over a year. I figured I would try a run tomorrow (one week since injury at DL) and see how I feel. I'll strap a knee brace on before I run. The PDR is coming in 2 weeks so I want to make sure I can run this thing.

I'm no doctor but it feels like I sprained the tendon on the outside of my left knee. It only hurts when I straighten it out. The good news is that it's not the same knee I injured last year. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Lou

Lou - Good luck on your first post knee injury run, I hope it goes well.

Howard
- Wow - you are running crazy fast. I hope we get good weather for the PDR so you can get your PR.

Jodi
- I'm with you on being done with marathons (but not running) for awhile after Philly (well, I do have the Goofy but I figure with how hard I'm training for Philly, I can get through that with minimal extra training as long as I don't expect a good time or anything). I think I need to focus on getting faster. Running 50 miles a week takes up way too much time when you are as slow as I am.

Dave
- I'm actually registered for Philly (but Matt isn't, so I'm kind of annoyed he missed the rate increase).

Colleen - Sorry to hear that your DS isn't liking school. Glad you didn't get hit by the storm. Around here - not so much.

Mike - Have you considered running the MCM 10K? I registered last week.

Sara
- Have a good week traveling.

I'm also traveling for work next week. I'm also supposed to run 54 miles. Not sure how that is going to work out.

So, this morning I got my 12 miles in during the torrential downpour of Hanna. Mike - it reminded me of that half we did in Leesburg. I actually really didn't mind running in the rain, except I now have a giant blister on the bottom of my foot. I was running from approx 8-10AM and the weather is only supposed to get worse here over the next several hours. Already, 2 places on the trails where I run were completely flooded out. Not sure where all this water is going to go. It's times like this that make me happy to live on the 19th floor!

I think I'm done with running... I'll do Philly then take a big old break. I like 1/2s, but fulls are way too much training & stuff.
Jodi - I feel the same way. The thought of having to find a way to fit in a 20-mile LR and an 18-mile race in the next 4 weeks just to train for a 26.2 mile run is killing me. 1/2's are so much fun.

Colleen: I am not so sure about the lean, mean running machine thing. I have hit a bit of a plateau I think. I have dipped to 189, then back up to about 191 where I have been for about a week or so. It is certainly better than the 206 I was at the end of May. I am training hard though and keeping with the program I elected to follow.

Lou: I try not too look too far ahead. However, if I weighed 150, people would be secretly thinking I had an eating disorder. I don't think I'll ever be that thin, not do I want to be. 180-185 would be just fine with me. I am really looking forward to meeting you soon.

Cindy: Thanks, I hope to get that PR. It would certainly make me feel like all of this running, training and time invested had a purpose (beyond getting me in shape).

Jodi: Hanna is on her way!

Hi everyone! I went to the gym this morning hit the treadmill since Hanna :headache: is visiting us here all day today and into tonight. The treadmill just ate me up and spit me out. I had shin splints by mile 1 and had to pause it several times to stretch out. I managed 3 miles at an 8:55 pace and called it quits.

I came home, I took two Aleve and hit the streets. It was raining, but not too bad when I started out. The shin splints weren't even a issue outside where I normally run. :goodvibes I had 7 miles on the schedule for today and 17 for tomorrow :sad2: . Since I had three already done, I went out to finish the balance of the miles. I wound up running 6 instead of 4. I figured that I would just turn my 17 for tomorrow into a 15 which sounds a bit nicer and friendlier than 17. 90% of my run outside was in moderate rain and in some areas sustained winds. However, it was a warm rain. Unfortunately, it was hot and 100% humid. The air was like a wet wool blanket draped over my lungs.

So, with the combined runs, I ran:

Miles: 9
Time: 1:20:06
Pace: 8:54

Splits:
8:55
8:55
8:55
9:25
9:04
8:39
8:37
8:51
8:48

The rest of today will be relaxation and recouperating for tomorrow's LR.

Have a great night!

:grouphug:

Hello My Philly-Friends!!

My parole hearing went very well; I have walked through the razor-wire topped fence and now have access to the internet once again as a free man.

I have missed you all; I have yet to begin catching up on all the posts. I took the summer off from the boards (and from running), but with Fall around the corner and the kiddos back in school, I am determined to become a regular poster once again.

I won't burden you as of yet with my continuing achilles tale of woe (only run 5 times since last April). Let's just say I am happy to be back and I am anxious to catch up on all the goings-on.

I hope you have all had a happy, healthy, fulfilling Summer. I'll check in soon after I have read some of your posts and figured out what you have all been up to.

Hello My Philly-Friends!!

My parole hearing went very well;.

:rotfl: Glad to hear it!

We have kept the home fires burning for you.

The important thing of note, most of us missed the regular Philly marathon rate and now we have to pay a lot more than Dave!popcorn:: So I guess Dave is buying the first round.:thumbsup2

Steve~ Is that you? WELCOME BACK!!!

Hi everyone, just a quick post to say I survived my run today. Since I did two extra miles yesterday, I deducted them from my total today. So I ran 15 today. It felt like a Looooooooooooooonnnnnnnggggggggg way.

Sorry guys, quick drive by before Boy Scouts...

Yoga and 4 miles in today, but I was getting a little over confident during the walk and actually ran the last 1/2 mile.:scared1: We will see what happens tomorrow with the old bod?!?:confused3

actually ran the last 1/2 mile.:scared1: We will see what happens tomorrow with the old bod?!?:confused3

GO COLLEEN - :dance3: :woohoo:  Anxious to hear how you felt afterwards!

CHICKPEA - HEY, how are you? Glad you're back!!! RU going to Philly?

Howard - Stop already...stop rubbing it IN :lmao: . Nice running :thumbsup2 .

I ran 5 early this a.m. & it felt great (nice & cool). Now I've gotta run double digits make it feel "good".:rotfl:

Cindy - Can't believe you ran in that RAIN! :cheer2: WTG. We all know how I'd've dealt with that  . How's the blister?:headache:

Another quick drive by do to work and having to get kids ready for bed...

Got in 8 miles yesterday. The first 2 miles hurt pretty bad but it got a little better after that. I iced the knee down for a while after the run and took some Motrin which helped a lot. Watching the Eagles win 38-3 helped even more.

Training plan has me running 20 miles this weekend. Not sure how that will work with the sore knee and PDR on 9/21. I'll take it day by day this week.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Lou

Geeez, 14 pages to catch up:scared: .

Lou: Hope the knee is doing well. Congrats on the Disney run. I enjoyed your race report; especially the part when staff wanted to stick you in the med tent, but you told them DS took priority.

Howard: Wow; cranking out the miles; cranking out the local races; and pretty much making me feel like a sloth ;) Seriously, great effort; your training log posts motivate me.

Jodi: Congrats on the NYC race. Your previous posts crack me up; you seem to have struck a nice balance between motivating yourself to run and looking for the perfect (read: low-mileage) training plan. :thumbsup2 They have dog dermatologists?

Mike: Three weeks at Disney? :worship: I know you had to dress like the Gorton's Fisherman a lot of the time, but it really sounded like you and the family had a great time. Hi Kathy!

Sara: I am so glad you are back on the roads!! :woohoo: I am envious as I am just beginning the road back. I hope DH is OK post-app'y. I have definitely dropped back to the Half for Philly in Nov., so if things go well you will have someone to at line up with at the start.

Cindy: Well hello Miss Mega-Mileage! I hope the whole sternum-muscle thingy has subsided for you. Sounds as if you had a great trip to Disney this summer; and congrats to you and DH on the NYC race.

Colleen: It sounds as if you have had a busy, fulfilling summer. I know what you you mean when you say the summers seem to get busier and busier as the kiddos get older. ::yes:: You seem to be in a groove with increasing the walking mileage and mixing in the XT/other exercise.

Dave: Geez, I go away for a bunch of weeks and you have been to Disney and Nicaragua?! I enjoyed your trip reports, and I especially enjoy your reports that you have been putting in the mileage/exercise with the DDs. My oldest DD (10) has expressed interest in joining me on runs next Spring/Summer to get ready for soccer season (her passion); I can't wait. A belated condolence for your family cat; I too have been there and our cat also occupies a nice respectful resting spot in the back yard.

Chester: Hello! I'm glad to know I was not the only one who was somewhat delinquent in the "frequent posting" category this summer. Glad to hear you are cranking it up for the Fall marathon season. I have recounted your Muddy Buddy race report to four different friends this summer, highlighting what a fun race it must be and planting the seed in their heads that we must compete some year.

OK, on to me. Alas, the (L) achilles is only slightly, somewhat, marginally better. I've done the stretching and strengthening, but it is a slow road. I have not been to a doc for any diagnostics, but I just know they wouldn't find anything significant. So, I take what the heel gives me. A positive note: today is the first day since last April I have been able to run on consecutive days. :woohoo: The mileage, to paraphrase Flo Rida, is "Low, low, low, low". 4 miles yesterday followed by 2.5 today. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. Some days I limp for the first hour or 2 after awakening until it loosens up.

Anyhow, here's the plan: I've dropped down to the Half for for Philly in November (heel willing). Disney (Goofy) 2009 is OUT; bums me out, but no way I can do it. I'm hoping to rehab this winter and return to Disney for the 2010 races.

I'm really pushing to be able to do the Half in Philly so I can see/meet my Peeps on this thread! :goodvibes So where are we meeting for dinner Sat. Nov. 22nd? popcorn::

Take care,

Steve - So very glad to see you back :grouphug: . Sorry the achilles is STILL giving you a hard time:headache: . I am undecided about my November aspirations but glad to know if the 1/2 is my calling then I'll have a friendly face in the crowd:thumbsup2 Your rehab plan looks good and you know I have the utmost sympathy for your predicament:hug: .

Lou - :wizard: Please take it easy on the knee to increase your changes for a good race experience on the 20th! Congrats to your Eagles:thumbsup2 . My DH and DD's are Cowboys fans (sorry) and they had a win as well:banana: .

Jodi - Sweet job on the 5 miles:yay: . Glad to hear it's getting cooler but I'm seriously hating the lack of light in the a.m. I can see the TM in my very near future if I still want to run in the a.m.:headache:

Colleen - :yay: :cheer2: Go Colleen, Go Colleen:woohoo:

Howard - Super job on the 15 miles:yay: . Yeah, feeling like it's a long way is most likely the reason I see a 1/2 in my future in November:rolleyes1 .

Cindy - If you happen to be in Chicago today or Knoxville, TN tomorrow, we can catch up over drinks:thumbsup2 or I guess even go for a run:laughing: . Travel safe!

Well, I've been up since 3:00 CDT so luckily the fitness center is open 24 hours at the hotel for insane addicts like myself:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: . I'll try to run a few this morning despite being dehydrated and hungover:confused3 :rolleyes1 I did manage to do a brick workout this weekend and I do think the biking is a very helpful addition to the training regimen:thumbsup2 .
