Dave - That's terrible! It horrible that you should even have to worry about someone stealing a stopwatch.

Howard - Congrats on breaking the Mendoza Line. I hear you about getting the pounds to come off. I wish I could just run and eat whatever I want but it's harder to burn off those Doritos at 40. Nice job getting in 3 unmotivated miles. I ran 4 very unmotivated miles this morning myself. I think the key is being able to run the miles even when your body isn't in the mood.

Cindy - Not registered for Philly yet but I'll do it before 6/30 and the price increase.

Dave - Sorry about the stopwatch.

Got in 4 weak miles today but wasn't in the mood to run. Not sure about you guys but the bugs in South Jersey are nasty in the summer and I can no longer run on my local bike path due to lots of biting flies. I have to resort to running on the roads which are not very motivating.

The next 2 weeks are D-Day for me and this business deal so I am not in the mind set to run. Did get good news from 2 investors today so I'm feeling a little better.

Lou

Hey Long Lost Friends!

Busy, busy, busy! Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit. No fun excuses like vacaction. Just work, end of the school year, beginning of swim team, Father's Day stuff.

Howard - I'm very impressed with your dedication and the results that you're getting. Keep up the good work!

Dave - Totally stinks that someone would heist your stopwatch. That's just not nice! Time to get a new Garmin, I guess. What's the new model? The 405. Looks really slick (and is about 1/3 the size of the laptop you had strapped to your arm at MCM  .

Steve - Turns out that some of my extended family like the idea of going to Maine. So it looks like there will now be 17 in my party. Uncle Joe has a fear of hotels and 2nd cousin MaryLou isn't allowed to sleep outside per doctor's orders so we will all need rooms in your house. Thanks again for the original offer :thumbsup2 .

Cindy - Do you just have a cot at work? You're working too hard girl!

Sara - Glad to hear the knee is doing alright. Safe travels.

Chester - I hear what you're saying about the sun really making it tough. Unfortunately, I've kind of had to run a few too many miles in the heat of the day lately. Luckily it was quite a bit cooler today.

Colleen - Hey, what's up chicky-doodle?

Jodidough - Before I forget... You've asked me about three times now what's up next on my running schedule. I got nothing for sure until Philly. Oh, and the chartered family bus up to Chick Pea's;) . A few "maybes" and "would like to", but that's about it.

The family got me a Wii Fit for Father's Day. Lots-o-fun!! A little disconcerting though when it calculates your BMI and all of a sudden your little Mii looks a bit porkier than before. Yikes!! I went to bed last night with sore butteous maximus muscles from all the balance games.

I also managed to get 6-1/2 miles in this afternoon while the girls were taking piano lessons. As mentioned before, it was quite a bit cooler today, so I didn't bake like a foil wrapped spud.

But here's the weird thing. My elbow hurt like hell when I was done. WTH?? It's still a bit sore. I'm thinking I must have banged it earlier in the day or something. Who knows.

Good Morning Team: Nothing new for me to report from yesterday. I need to check out the new Garmins, but it's going to be a little while before I can get one. Oh well.

Mike- nice job on the 6.5 miles. You're right the Garmin I had at the MCM was huge. I never really liked that about them, and I hear the new ones have a stronger GPS receiver too which will be nice. Good luck with the general busy-ness going on around you.

Lou- good job with your 4 miler, and good luck with your business deal. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Cindy- I went to the Chautauqua Institute once many years ago when DW and I were still dating. Brings back good memories.

Howard- Congrats on the weight loss. That's fantastic!!!

Hello Jodi, Colleen, Sara and Chester

Evenin' Folks

Did a tempo run this morning. 1 mile easy on each end with 3 miles at 9:00 min/miles in the middle. I pretty much got it done (my splits were 2 or 3 seconds off for each mile) but wow! was that hard. I haven't run fast since the Minnie and apparently my body no longer remembers how to do so. (It was 55 degrees when I went out, so it was me - not the weather) I'm definitely going to start back up on speedwork next week. I'd really like another sub 2 hour half in NY.

Mike - Hope your elbow is feeling better. As for upcoming races, Matt and I are going to run this:
http://www.potomacriverrunning.com/details.asp?p=events_twilight_festival
It's supposed to be a fun race. If you're not working, maybe you'd consider giving a shorter race a shot? We are also going to run the MCM 10k. You should do that one too. Short races are fun!

Lou - I hope everything goes well for you over the next two weeks.

Good evening folks!

Lou~ Doritos are good, aren't they? You don't have to tell me about the age thing... I turn 45 next Monday (June 23).

Mike, Cindy and Dave~ Thanks for the kind words. I am definitely committed to training properly (as best I can) and to dropping some pounds to make my marathon experiences a little easier and faster. Carrying around 10 to 20 pounds less has got to increase the effort to distance/speed ratio. I've got my sights set clearly on a PR at MCM in October.

Here is my running information from tonight's effort:

Miles: 6
Time: 54:05
Pace: 9:01

Splits:
9:12
8:58
9:43
8:40
9:00
8:34

My plan called for 5 miles, but my DS (who rode his bike along with me) said "why don't you run 6?" and I said sure, why not? :confused3

Tomorrow I am running in a 5k event in Wilmington. I hope to get a good finish time, it will be difficult, the course has a long, killer hill at about mile 2.25 which almost goes to 2.9 miles. Lou will know what hill I am talking about. It was part of the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon Course he ran in March.

Hi to everyone I've missed! :goodvibes

Happy training!

Howard

Good Morning TEAM: I did 5.5 miles after work yesterday in 47:19 min (timed via the DIS Unplugged podcast) for 8:36 mpm. Whoo hooo! On my runs lately I've felt really comfortable and relaxed, and I'm always surprised that I'm still running sub 9 min miles. Yahooo! I'd really love to do a sub 4 hour marathon. I don't know if I can carry that pace for that far, but I have lots of time to train for it. Not that I know what marathon I'm running yet though...

Howard- Great job on your 6 miles. You must have been feeling really good with your last mile in 8:34. Have fun in your 5K.

Cindy- Nice job on your tempo run. With all the travelling you've been doing lately maybe that's why it felt tough.

Good Morning Bots!

Lou - Thanks for all the good advice for my Philly comings & goings. I've booked Amtrak & am excited that I won't have to endure another Guiness-fueled (don't ask) 80mph :moped: race to the airport like MCM ;) . Now all you have to do is arrange the WISH meet!!! :rolleyes1 I'm a party of 2!

Howard - Nice consistency with your training, don't you love it when your DS says, "hey why not another mile, dad?" :lmao: Glad you were able to do it so quickly!! I'm trying to drop a few, too because I know that where MY extra weight is, is causing serious drag-time:rotfl2: !

Mikey - So you've got nothing planned for a bit, I think that's good. You've had quite a "run" (no pun intended) & should give your bones a break old man! Are you off work for the next 10 days??? Isn't the WiiFit cool?? Those balance games really get me, too. The strength training exercises is quite depressing for me as I realize I have zero upper body strength :worried: . Oh well! My mii is a little portly, too  . Do the girls partake?? Oh yeah, what's up with the elbow pain?

Dave - NICE speedwork, dude! Your times are smokin'. I can't come close to anything that fast yet...not sure I ever will, I'm such an old bag! That sucks that someone stole your watch, what D-bags! You must be getting psyched for your Disney trip, it'll be here b4 you know it! You MUST be there in January. As far as Maine goes, I'm waiting for ChickPeaSteve to give me all the details, but I'd love to run that 1/2!!

Cindy - Thanks for the advice on the runs, I think I'll take it. This a.m. run was a bit tough after yesterdays tempocrap, I was a bit stiff. Listen girl, you work WAY too hard!! Does your boss appreciate it? If not, have him PM me so I can set him straight. Are you & Matt getting excited for NYC?? You don't even need to train at this point, do you?? You've got to be in tiptop leftover shape from the marathon, no?

Colleen - Where are you? Did you flee back to Canada? :worried: Disney for you soon!!

Sara - You're going to Disney too, soon, right? How's that leg? Any running?

HummuSteve - OK, what's the deal with this marathon in October?? Don't worry, I'll stay in my car in your driveway, as it looks like everyone else will be taking up any spare rooms in your house ;) . How are you feeling?

Chester - Why don't you head to Maine, too? How's the weather holding out for you down there? I don't know how you run in that humidity  . How's Tracy doin' with her training?? Tell her I said "hey".

OK, who's going to arrange the Philly WISH meet (Colleen, Lou)? Is it ok if we do an early meet on Sat. night, instead of Fri. guys? 'Cause I'm coming in early Sat. afternoon & will go to the expo directly. I can't do it on Sun. after the race because, well, you know why.

Running has been good. 5 miles yesterday a.m. with the middle 3 @ racepace (whatever that is). But somehow my last mile was the fastest? . This a.m. only 3 but I was a bit stiff from yesterdays efforts. Oh yeh, and I rode my bike to Blockbuster (can't afford to drive). I may have to go to my torture guy soon, as my lower legs/ankle areas seem a bit tight, we'll see.

I vote for Lou to set something up, afterall, he knows the place.

Been around, really busy with the kids being out of school.

I will try and catch up later after we (kids and I) give the garage a thorough cleaning.::yes::

Hey Y'all

I'm taking the rest of the week off from running. Yesterday I donated a double unit of red blood cells (first time I tried this), then tried to run an easy 5 last night. I got about .75 miles and then turned around. Not enough oxygen was being transported through the body and the heart was working too hard. I may try again on Saturday.

Jodi
My out of state travels are limited to the DL Half and Philly this year. Next year will be devoted to the Honolulu Full. If gas prices keep going up, then even WDW races may be out of the question.

Tracy got a new pair of shoes on Monday. She walked 4 miles yesterday morning and was rained out this morning. She's doing good.

Howard
Happy Birthday. Tracy and my 24th anniversary is also on Monday.

Happy running to everyone.

Chester

I vote for Lou to set something up, afterall, he knows the place.

OK, let's make LOU do it...but is Sat. ok w/ everyone?

Chester - Leave your blood where it is! Seriously, be careful & definitely give it 'til Sat., especially with the heat & all!

Lou - I second the nomination for your being the WISH meet organizer:thumbsup2 . Saturday late afternoon works best for my family as well if no one else has any objections:listen: .

Chester - Happy Anniversary to you and Tracy:cool1: .

Howard - Happy Birthday to you :cake: It looks like your training is right on track and I can't wait for a 5k race report:banana: .

Jodi - Today I switched my flights so I will be in WDW 6/29-7/5:lmao: :bitelip: . I ran a bit this morning:yay: .

Cindy - I'm going to sell my ATM bib since I don't think I can commit to a realistic training schedule:worried: . Actually, I have just given it away to an active military member free-of-charge through the ATM website.

Dave - I can't believe someone stole the stopwatch:mad: !!

Mike - What's up with the elbow:confused: ? Thanks for the Wii Fit review and glad you're enjoying it. I am going to get my family one for one of the kids' or DH's birthday:hippie: .

Not too much for me to report training-wise with traveling and lots of family obligations going on. I am definitely going to do the 1/2 in Philly in November since I am commiting to WDW in January. I can't do back-to-back marathons coming off a prolonged injury. 13.1 in November has me a bit scared:worried: .

Hey Guys!

I was just looking @ the map of the Philly Marathon. Am I reading that right, or do you go right by the finish @ around mile 13 or so? That's EVIL!:faint:

Jodi - You are correct. The course is basically a warped figure 8. The 1/2 course ends at the Art Museum and then we have to run another 13 miles and come back. It was hard passing the people wrapped in blankets at the half-way point as I had another 13 miles in the freezing rain.

I go away for a day and now I am the Philly coordinator. Well, I'm cool with that. I'll figure out a game plan as we get closer.

Thanks for the early Birthday wishes! I start my birthday with an 8:30 AM meeting at work that will take about 2 hours. Not too fun. However, it is an important meeting for a project that is wrapping up at work.

Chester: Cam and I will celebrate our 24th on December 22. Congratulations!

I wanted to post my 5K results.
DW- Cam, DS - Andrew and I ran in the Andrew McDonough Memorial 5K tonight at around 7 PM. It started late with considerable confusion as to where the actual starting line was, there was no gun or siren to kick it off, etc. I got stuck behind some senior sitizens at the start, then a man with a double stroller, etc. It was frustrating, but I realize most people were out there to support the charity and have a good time, not get a good time. Oh well... what are you going to do? :confused3

Here is my information:

Time: 26:23
Miles: 3.1
Pace: 8:34

Splits:
7:51
8:56
8:54

Here are some amazing stats (at least to me) on how much I've accomplished since taking up running in 2001 (my first 5K event).

36 = 5K's = 111.6
5 = 5 Milers = 25
1 = 13K = 8.1
3 = 15K's = 27.9
6 = Half Marathons = 78.6
3 = Marathons = 78.6

329.8 Racing Miles

Tomorrow is one of my rest days. I am going to milk it for all its worth.

Have a great night!

Sara - So you can be one of the people sipping on hot chicken broth, wrapped in mylar, that is laughing at us as we limp by at Mile 13. I think you'll be fine with 13.1 in November.

Chester - Be careful with running after donating blood. I tried running years ago after donating a pint and almost passed out on a track.

Howard - Pretty impressive stats. What's your next race?

Good Morning Everyone: Wow, it's been quiet around here lately. So I took a rest day yesterday. I was going to run just 2-3 really easy miles because I'm trying to build up to running 5 days a week. However, I just felt dead. I figured I'd be better off taking a rest day yesterday, and tacking those 2 miles onto my LR today. Thursday I biked over 10 miles on the Erie Canal Trail. First time actually using my real bike for x-training, and I think it was a lot more taxing than the exercise bike.

Gotta drop off DD10 princess: with the girl scouts this morning at 8:00a. She has an overnight horse camp that she is really excited (and a little nervous) about. I'm planning on running after I drop her off. Hope the weather holds out. We've been getting so much rain and thunderstorms everyday.

Howard- Good luck with your race on Sunday. Great job on all those racing miles. Way to go. Happy Birthday!!!

Lou- Hope all is well with your business dealings. Thanks for organizing the Philly festivities (Philly Festivus). We don't need anything fancy. That cafeteria you described in the Comcast building should suit us fine.

Sara- I hope you're recovering well, and the family stuff is going as well as it can be. That Disney trip is coming up soon isn't it? When do you leave? Next week?

Chester- Have you gotten your blood back yet?

Hi Colleen- How's everything going with the kiddos?

Jodi- How's it going with you WO-man? Saturday night works for me for the Philly WISH meet. I really want to be in Philly with all you guys come November. I'm going to work to make it happen. That being said, I found out there's another conference I could go to. It runs Sept 24-26 at the Contemporary in Disney. If I can go to that conference, I would be in Disney for the Expedition Everest race, and the EPCOT Food and Wine festival. That would be really fun.

Mike- You've been suspiciously quiet lately.

Oh, one more thing - anyone looking for a spring 2009 marathon? I found out the Pittsburgh Marathon is returning after a 5 year hiatus on May 3, 2009. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I always wanted to run this race, and the old course was one block away from my MiL's house. I think I may try to run it next year.

Hey Bots, I'm here!!

Howard - Good luck tomorrow @your race! Have fun, kay? I'm diggin your training & times :thumbsup2 . Happy Birthday for Monday ('cause I know I'll forget)!!

Mike - Yeah, suspiciously absent from these boards is a good way to put it. Where are you?? Not on vacation again RU?

Lou - Good luck with your business-dealings. The family business on this end isn't doing so well...tough times are afoot, that's for sure :worried: . Thanks for taking on the Philly meet, and sorry if you were rail-roaded into it :rolleyes1 . Not diggin' the Philly course man, what a mind-meld!!:scared1: I hope I don't get violent & clock the race director.

Dave - Listen, you've somehow gotta put it into your new job contract that you can't be @ the Nov. conference, you've got to be @ Philly. And how cool would it be if you were @ the Yeti??? Me & DS will be there & so will Cindy, if they ever let her out of the office! :headache: That's too cute that DD is @ an overnight camp...are we having nervous Dad syndrome, or what? So Please, please, come to the Yeti!!!!!!:yay:

Hi all you other peeps!!

I ran this a.m. 7 miles & it was ok, for an average pace of 9:28

Hi everyone!

Jodi & Dave~ Thanks for the notes about my Birthday on Monday and the race tomorrow. I'll do my best, and hopefully have some fun in the process.

I wanted to post my super results from this morning's run, but I can't. I was scheduled to run 7 today, but since I am running in a 5K tomorrow, I was going to go out to do 4 miles today.

I wanted to take it a bit easier today than I have been lately. I ran the first mile in just over a 10 minute pace. Up until then I felt pretty good. As I got into the heart of the second mile, I developed shin splints and/or pain at the top of each foot where it meets the ankle. It happens from time to time and I usually can stop and stretch it out and run again. This time it felt like headaches in my ankles and I decided to walk it out until I felt better. I didn't, I ended up finishing the 4.1 miles but it wasn't pretty.

I still feel some residual pain in my ankles some 14 hours later. I will take some advil before going to bed. I am sure I will be fine for the 8:30 AM 5K tomorrow. I am just not sure how hard I am going to push it. It will depend on how the ankles feel tomorrow.

Enjoy your Sunday and Happy Training!!!
