~Philadelphia Marathon 11/23/08~

Man, all this hype for a race in November. I wish Philly was a spring race now.

You guys may want to consider the Broad Street Run (10 miles) on May 4. It gets a big turn out. It's 10 miles straight down Broad Street.

You may also want to consider the Phila Distance Run (1/2) in September. Also gets a big turnout. The course is pretty similar to the first half of the marathon course.

Just suggestions. Easy for me since I'm not the one traveling.

If we book that hotel, I am going to need a roommate! Any takers?
Colleen - First the boy scout troup, now an open invitation over the entire internet? Yikes! You cafeteria ladies are a wild bunch! Must be the hair net;) .

Are you trying to bait me with your little "cow" and "off the pool deck fun" comments? Shame, Shame. Theta is your name.

Cindy - I haven't registered for the National yet. I haven't even checked the website to see if everything is still open. I'm really wavering. I like the idea of doing the full but to be totally honest I'm a little gun-shy after Disney. My 2nd half of the full was pretty horrid and I kind of feel I need a good run for my own self confidence. The half was much less pressure... Maybe I've gone from respecting the distance to being afraid of it. Mommy!

Geeze, I'm such a girly-man. Alright, I'm registering for the full!! There, take that you stupid marathon! And I'm sending you my therapy bills if it doesn't go well.

BTW, you are right there for a sub-2 half. I'm betting you'll get it.

Dave - Sorry, but I wasn't logged in last time I voted for your pictures so they probably didn't count. I think I did it right this time..

SilverSteve - What, are you a long term planner or something? Heck, I haven't even registered for a race I plan to run next month and you're booking rooms 11 months away.

Good luck on your race Sunday! Glad the weather is looking decent.

Lou - Nice picture. Thanks for giving a little visual of the area.

As for all your Philly races; Don't get me wrong. I'm all for the Brotherly Love thing and all that jazz, but in reality I was just looking for a late fall race to run when we picked Philly. We could just as easily be posting on the "Vegas" or "Richmond" thread  .

It does kind of seem like we choose the Philly race with the least cache though. The others you mentioned sound a lot more popular.

Jodi - Just give in now and commit to Minnie as well. You know all the chickies are going to try to talk you into it.

Are you going to do the ultra you were talking about before? I thought once Bruce threw down the challenge it was a done deal.

Chester - Nice to see you pop in.

Sara - How are things?

SteveOH, Amy, Scott - Hey, are guys too busy with all the team challenge business to frequent over here? Scott, what about the vibe, man?:confused3

Just so everyone knows what kind of smack talkers we're dealing with, SteveOH offered my lovely wife some sort of deal to break my leg so I wouldn't log in too many miles:sad2: .

I got some XT in this morning. 30 minutes on some contraption that looked like they threw together with spare parts. Kind of a recumbent elliptical stair pusher. There was only one bike open so Kathy took it and this other gizmo was right next to her. I worked my behind off so I guess it's all good.

14 miler on tap for Sat AM. BIG FUN!

Lou - Thanks for the picture, its nice to get a sense of where things are.

Colleen - Thanks for looking into the hotel rates, thats a much better rate than the Embassy Suites has for the PDR.

Mike - you can probably wait until the last minute, I don't think its going to fill.

I just got back from a 9 miler of what my schedule refers to as a "race sim" - 6 miles easy + 3 miles at race pace plus 20-30 seconds. It was a really good run.

Hey DisBots

Lou - That picture is cool, thanks. It seems that the hotel of choice is in close enoug proximity for me to make a 2:30 or 3pm flight!:rotfl:

Dave - OK, so I voted & none of it counted? I suppose I didn't log on...what a tool. Rest assured, I will see to that this weekend, for SURE! Good luck in the contest!! How's that dang hip?

Sara - Come back Lil' Sheeba!!:confused3 Stop all the drama & get your butt back on this board, woman!! It's not that I miss you or anything, but I think Colleen does:rolleyes1 .

Cindy - Glad you had a good run today & that your training program is working out for you!:woohoo: I'm still on the fence about Minnie...you know me, though, I prolly end up going, you know, peer pressure & all that. I don't suppose I have to worry about that race filling up, eh?

Colleen - How are those boy scout instructors??:rolleyes1 Hope you're having fun w/ your DisBotSubstitutes @ the swimming competition this weekend...is there a real obnoxious one in THAT group, too?

Mike - Oh just go ahead & sign up for the FULL or already, you know you want to. GOOFY was just a fluke, remember how well you did @ MCM? You'll be fine. Yes, I signed up for the Ultra after Bruce threw down the gauntlet:sad2: It's on April 20 so that gives me a little time to train:rolleyes1 I don't know, though, that lack of training for the GOofy did pretty ok by me. My longest training run was 17 miles (and that was using JodiMath so it coulda only been 12:eek: ). How was that big run today??

SteveOH - Tell your betrothed (pregnant betrothed, at that) that she's absolutely right, I saw her @ mile 25 & ran FASTER to get by her so she wouldn't see me! How else do you think I could catch up w/ Mike? How's she feelin', anyway??

HummuSteve - Why don't you come down & do the Ultra w/ me?? It's in upstate CT, so it'd prolly only take you 3 hours to get here...COME ON, tell your wife that she & I have to meet 'cause we have the same name or something lame like that!

ChesterYetiLink - How's the weather down there? I'm jealous that you're doing Nashville...you'll have to let me know how it is as it's been on my radar for a year or so. The other one that looks great is the Shamrock run in VA Beach (1/2 & Full).

Ran 10 miles today & it was really windy & I didn't feel so great the last few miles, but got it done. Notice how I put that it was windy in there so I have something to blame my sluggishness on?:thumbsup2 !

So WHEN can we book that Philly hotel room again?? We may just fly in Sat a.m. & leave Sun. pm...I don't know, I'll have to give this itinerary some thought...draw up a map w/ mileage to airports & what not...

Cindy - Great job on you 9 miles. It was nice out today, wasn't it?

...is there a real obnoxious one in THAT group, too?

I don't know, though, that lack of training for the GOofy did pretty ok by me. My longest training run was 17 miles (and that was using JodiMath so it coulda only been 12:eek: ).

The other one that looks great is the Shamrock run in VA Beach (1/2 & Full).
Jodibot - Obnoxious one? Hey, I resemble that remark!

I'm with you on your Goofy plan. I always suspected all this training crap was overrated!

I'm in for the Shamrock next year:thumbsup2 . I'll probably give that one a go even without you (but I wouldn't enjoy it as much). Gotta love a race sponsored by a beer company.

Nice job on your sluggish run, BTW.

My 14 miler was just swell today. Still taking it at a nice and easy pace per the whacky Smart Coach training schedule.

I am getting better at running slow! (Those Runner's World people probably sit in their little cubicles laughing like hyenas every time some fool like me clicks on the site. "We got another sucker!")

Have an enjoyable Super Sunday!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I did my long bike yesterday - 70 min on the exercise bike, rest day for me today.

Mike- I saw your votes registered for the photo contest. Thanks so much for voting. Wow, you did 14 miles yesterday. That's fantastic. WTG! You're in great shape for the National Marathon and Cleveland. I'm really impressed at how your body recovers after the races. What's your secret? Say hello to Kathy for me. Wait, you did x-training? I thought you didn't do that... man, I'll never catch up with you now. ;)

Jodi- The hip's getting better. Thanks for asking. I told myself I'm going to take 2 full weeks off and just bike, and we'll see how the hip feels at the end of next week. In the meantime, I'm reading ChiRunning :thumbsup2. Of course I don't practice any of it because I'm not running, but it's given me a lot to think about. Great job on your 10 miler. I'm really starting to feel like a loser not getting in these long runs. Hey the Shamrock race in VA beach sounds fun for me too.

Cindy- Good job on your 9 miler too. Sounds like you're in really good shape for the National Half.

SteelerSteve- Are you out there? Are you running Cleveland with us?

Colleen- Thanks for the info on the Embassy Suites rate in Philly. I'm down with the $169. It will be a lot of fun for everyone to be staying together.

Chester- If you're interested send an e-mail to podcast@wdwinfo.com about the Muddy Buddy and tell Bob you're entering it.

Greetings Lou, SilverSteve and anyone else I might have missed. Have a great Sunday.

OK, I'm rooting for the Pats to go undefeated this season. Plus, Tom Brady was the QB at Michigan when I was there. Well, one of the QB's, I was there a long time to get my PhD.

Hey Guys!

OK, so The Shamrock Marathon in VA Beach in March of '09? Have I got that right??? COOL!! I may, however, only do the 1/2 on this one. This way it leaves much more time for alcohol consumption b4 I have to catch my flight!:rotfl:

Dave - I WILL vote today, never fear! I know it's tough taking time off from running, but I would stick w/ your 2 week plan of nada...sometimes that's the only way. Glad you're enjoying the ChiBook, it'll help in the long run, I promise.:hippie:

Mikey - Hey, do you have to work this week:laughing: . Congrats on the 14 miles...do you run w/ music? I know what you mean about the coaching things on RWorld. I think we've all got a pretty good feel of what we should be doing as far as training & how to do it...and there's NOTHING wrong w/ running slow!:3dglasses

Hi everyone else who hasn't posted since I posted last!:upsidedow

GO PATS!!!!

Mike - Great job on the 14. I hear you about running slow. For whatever reason it is not that easy.

Cindy - Great job on the 9.

Jodi - Great job on the 10. Your run sounds like mine yesterday. It was windy here too and I started to get a sugar rush towards the end that took about 10 minutes to pass.

Dave - Glad the hip is coming around. It was the right move to stay off of it for a few weeks. Good luck with the photos!

Hello to everyone else I missed.

VA Beach sounds good to me. Any race sponsored by Yuengling has to be good. I was eyeing that race up last summer. I have friends in VA Beach so I don't even need to worry about a hotel.

I'm reluctantly rooting for the Giants today. For one day I will be a Giants fan. I'm from Philly so we equally despise any team from Boston or NYC. If the Giants didn't have that dork (safest adjective I could use on this board) QB Eli Manning it would be so easy to root for them. The whole Manning family just turns me off. However, I can't forget about the 2005 Super Bowl. No way I can root for the Pats. Heck, we even have a U.S. Senator in PA that is still trying to bring down the Pats for the video tape scandal.

Got in 12 "easy" miles yesterday. The chart says I should run a 10:39 pace but I ran a 9:42 pace. I run with an iPod so I find myself running hard for certain songs, otherwise I ran about 10-minute miles.

Hi Guys!

Just a quick post as I have to head off to DD (9)'s indoor soccer game (Duh, of course it's indoors, Steve, this is Maine in the winter! :crazy2: )

Completed my (very hilly) Mid-Winter 10-Miler Race today (over 500 participants!). Tried to go for it and forget the walk breaks (mistake); at mile 6 one of those road race snipers apparently shot my left knee (I didn't see him; he was good). From mile 6 to 9 I had to take the walk breaks to appease my knee. But, I was able to bring it in at 1:29:59 by my watch; just squeaked in under an hour and a half. I'm happy with that.

Hello to all, and I'll catch up later.

:yay: Hi Guys!

Sorry I've been MIA but I am suffering the wrath of a lot of self-imposed drama. UGH!! I don't want to be a grown-up:confused3 ...

The $169.00 Embassy rate sounds awesome:thumbsup2 Thanks so much :thumbsup2 Colleen for checking into that. I will call them again this week to check on if the rate is available. My guess is we'll all need to jump on it as soon as we can.

Steve - Great job on the run today:thumbsup2 .

Lou - Sweet pace on the 12 miles:woohoo: . I'm from NY but we're Cowboys fans here so no real team we're pulling for. We're all Yankees fans come baseball season however:rolleyes1 .

Jodi - Virginia Beach sounds great:cool1: . I may just do the 1/2 as well. Great job on the 10 miles in the wind:cheer2:

Mike - Glad you took it easy on pace for the 14 so you were feeling fine:thumbsup2 How can you be afraid of the distance NOW:confused: ?! You'll do fine if you decide to run the National. Loved your bio!

Cindy - Yeah on the nice 9-miler:cheer2: !!

Colleen - Congrats on the first week of employment down;) .

Dave - If you're feeling like a loser for not banging out the LR's then I'm right there with you. I haven't undertaken anything over 5 miles since WDW:laughing: . When I see Steve-OH and Krista in OH in May while on business I will be hard pressing him to join us in Philly:thumbsup2 .

Well, I'm headed off to the doctor's in the a.m. about the neverending leg issue that I need to actually address in an adult manner:confused3 . My runs are good but, like Colleen, I habitually suffer from post-marathon depression and it takes me a while to get out of the funk. I don't want to be a poser posting when I am not feeling much like a runner. However, I did take 2nd place in the long course grand prix for my running club in 2007 so I will be collecting my trophy at the end of the month:banana:

Happy training to all this week:cheer2: .

Sara - Welcome back! You get a trophy? How cool is that! Let us know how the doctor's visit went.

Dave - My secret for recovering after Goofy was walking the last half of the full (well, except for when Jodi scared me into running!). I think I said this before, but with each race I do I seem to feel better, sooner. Of course, I get slower with each race too. Related? Nah! Couldn't be.

Cross-training? I go once every couple of weeks (less, if you ask Kathy about the cost vs. visit ratio of our gym membership:laughing: ). I'd really like to do better but then it would be the choice between XT and running. No time for both at this point.

Smart move resting the hip for another week. Have you plotted out a training plan for Cleveland yet?

SilverSteve - Good job on the race! Was the sniper shot just a stinger or did it leave a mark? Still sore?

Lou
- So I guess you're marginally happy with the Giants' win? I'm no Giants fan but have an everlasting distaste for Bill Belichick from his days with the Browns. He benched my all-time hero, Bernie Kosar. Some wounds can NEVER heal.

My only beef with the Shamrock race in VA Beach was that all the decent hotels seemed to have a 2 night minimum. We're only a couple hours away and 1 night would be plenty. You've got that problem taken care of.

Good job on the 12 miles.

Jodeeeeee! - I've been working all week long. I'm off for the week by the time you're reading this:cheer2: !

Kathy got me an i-pod shuffle last year for my birthday and I used it for all my long runs last spring but just got out of the habit and then it seemed a little distracting the last time I took it. I think I'll give it another try. Thanks for reminding me:thumbsup2 . I'll have to try to figure out how to do that podcast thing so I can hear all about you and Dave!

Hello to all our other friends out there!

Hey, I take back what I said about Eli. As much as I didn't like him before the game I have to respect what he did yesterday. It felt SO good to watch the Pats limp off the field yesterday. My one day of being a Giants fan is over but it was a good day.

The only running I did yesterday was running back and forth between kids events and food stores.

Hey Everyone: Just a quick drive-by post - I got in 40 min on the exercise bike this morning. Talk to you all later.

Dave - OK, did I vote right this time, or what??:confused3 Is that site/thing tough to navigate or am I just a tool (that question's NOT directed @ you, Mike.

More later for the rest of my Bots:grouphug:

Good Afternoon!

Jodi - wow an ultra. I'm impressed. I'm interested to hear your impression of those extra few miles at the end.

I could definetely be in for Shamrock '09. I would probably do the half too because (unlike some people - Mike) I don't really want to schedule another full that soon after the Goofy. I am thinking about doing a full in May '09, perhaps Flying Pig.

Steve: Great pace for the race. Hope the knee is feeling better today.

Sara - I'm sorry that your life has too much drama right now. I hope all goes well at the doctor. :thumbsup2 Congrats on your trophy.

Dave - great job on cross training. I'm impressed that you managed 70 minutes on a stationary bike. I find that more boring than the treadmill.

Lou - I can't make myself slow down if there is an uptempo song on my Ipod. That's actually one of the reasons I started listening to podcasts while training for the MCM (and listening to podcasts is how I found the Dis and WISH!)

 to everyone I missed.

Yesterday, DH and I did our easy run together (thus making is an extremely easy run for him) so that we could discuss our Disney trips/running plans for the next 12 months(I've been working so much that that was the only time we had to talk :sad2:). I think we have a final plan and I am really excited.

We are going to do a 5 day trip in August before DH's classes start again. But, since I really want to do Food and Wine and one of the night time Disney races, we are going to make a short trip at the end of Oct. for Tower of Terror. And, of course, I am already registered for Minnie with Dsis and DH and I are registered for Goofy. So I get to go to Disney 4 times in 12 months and do 3 (or really 4) races there.

I'm getting really excited about just going back to WDW. The last time I was there was March of 2003, so it will be over 5 years by the time of the Minnie. That is the longest I have been away since the first time I went at age 6.

Just a quick :drive: for a doctor's report. DD10 is home with a fever today so I am on duty for that one:rolleyes1 .

The ortho seems to think it may be nerve damage so I am going for an EMG. I reluctantly agreed to no running until I can find out a bit more. My leg is killing me from running yesterday so I guess I have to find the resolve to do the right thing here (not my strong point;) ). I am going to look at taking a spinning class and he said okay to the yoga as long as I am mindful not to tweak it.

Dave - I have been voting for your photos. I have been signing in but it's confusing to tell if my votes are being counted.

Mike - I took 3rd place last year so I know I do get a trophy:hippie: .

I did yoga this morning and that may be my routine from here on outpopcorn::

Sara - just saw your post - I guess we posted at the same time. :wizard: :wizard: for your leg. I hope you are able to find out more soon.

Alright, I have an announcement to make, ahem,

I EXERCISED today because I WANTED TO!:cool1: :dance3:

This is the first time since the marathon that I was excited about getting out there. I only had time for 3 quick miles, but they sure felt great!:thumbsup2

Hopefully, I am out of my funk and I will be out there again tomorrow.

More later!
