Wow, looks like we've got some new peeps along for the ride....SWEETpopcorn::

Mike/Steve - WOW, Congrats to you both for signing up for the Goofy! I don't think I'll be down there next year...but you NEVER know!! Mike, hope you're having a nice 10 days or whatever it is, off:rotfl: . Gettin' any snow today, HummusMan?

Sara - Uh, don't you have a birthday today or tomorrow or something????? :yay: You old HAG! And aren't you going back down to DISNEY today or tomorrow? You WENCH?popcorn:: Stay off that leg for a bit, eh?

Amy - Hello, nice to "meet" you. You need to sign up for Philly NOW. Or maybe wait until registration's open. It was humid & I don't know how I survived in it, but there you go...There's this little book I recommend reading, "ChiRunning" by Danny Dreyer. It has caused quite a commotion & it's share of naysayers here on this thread (Mike), but I've found it very helpful. Honestly, though, I think I was just lucky:rotfl2: .

Colleen - Is your mom still visiting??

Chester - Holy Cow, you're already training for another run? That's ridiculous...I wish I was going to TN, too!!

Dave - Are you signing up for GOOFY? Dude, you shoulda done it this year!!:headache:

Cindy - Welcome HOME!!:woohoo:

Howard - Good luck in school & hope to see you in Philly

Lou - Take care of that cough.

OK, so I ran 6 miles outside in the cold yesterday & it wasn't that bad. Not sure what's on my running horizons @ this point, but I bette sign up for something quick b4 I decide that I really don't need to run today, or the next, or the next...you know where I'm going w/ this. OK, let me fess up...I've got my eye on an Ultramarathon (only 31 miles) on April 20 here in CT...anyone care to join? We could have a slumber party @ my house!popcorn:: :woohoo: :yay:

Jodi - Ultramarathon! You must be Ultrawoman to run 31 miles. I think I will try to conquer 26 miles for a few years b4 tackling anything with "ultra" in front of it.

I did conquer the TM this morning. I ran 4 miles on the TM as I coughed for 38 minutes. Hopefully I can kick this flu by the end of the week. Next year I may just get the darn flu shot.

Allergy season is around the corner so I minus well get used to the feeling of running and coughing at the same time.

Quick post because I should still be working. I did manage to read all of the posts I missed. Glad to hear you all survived WDW marathon weekend and thanks for the laughs. To everyone who posted a race report, thanks - I enjoyed reading them.

I think Sara's b-day is tomorrow - happy birthday!

Dave - I'll vote for you!

Howard - good luck on your last semester.

Hi Kira - I am also thinking about the Philly Distance Run.

As for my running - I only ran once while in Jamaica. I did intend to run more, but, when the choices were run or snorkel, kayak, or anything else involving water, or, honestly, run or lie on beach drinking frozen beverage, run lost every time. I also skipped my run this morning - my first day of training for the National Half (its 10 weeks away Mike - have you decided yet?) but tomorrow I'm getting back on schedule (seeing as my schedule gives me the options of off, cross-train, or easy 30-45 minute run that shouldn't be too hard :rotfl: ) I am going to try really hard not to select the "off" option.

Hi everyone! I had a question regarding the philly marathon 2008. I was looking at the website and it doesn't look like registration is open yet..am I correct??

Next question: How quick does this race fill up? Reason I ask is that I am going to enter the lottery for the NYC marathon...if I don't get in I want to try to do the Philly Marathon instead. I won't find out about NYC until June, do you think I will be able to still register for Philly or will it be too late?

Hope somebody out there can help!

Laurie...Hi buddy :). I can't answer your question about the Philly marathon BUT if you get in NYC you bet your butt I'll be there cheering you on!!! :cool1: I may enter the lottery and defer to 2009 if I get in...I want to run it but I don't think I want to do it in a year when i'm doing Goofy. I want to train my behind off and post a good time for NYC!!! I'm going in to watch it this year and possibly volunteer. :goodvibes

Hi Amy,

Welcome to the "Philly" thread. It was nice to meet you at the Pop meet during Marathon Weekend :) .

I wish I were the super-fast runner you have been referencing, but Optimator is Mike. I'm Steve or SilverSteve, not to be confused with the other Steve (Steve-OH, or SteelersSteve). I know, very confusing. :scratchin

By the way, I finished right with you and Scott for the full; I was 5:23 as well. Sorry I didn't recognize you guys along the way :confused3 .

So, are you running Philly? Registration opens April Fools' Day :joker: .

Happy Training

Jodi - Sorry, only 7 days off. Ultra?! That seems about right for you. You seem to get stronger as you go along.

Cindy - Glad you had a good time. Given the choices, I see why running lost every time. As for the National... I'm training like I'm running the full. Hopefully I'll get amnesia about last weekend in a couple of weeks when the 18 milers come due. I still haven't registered for anything yet.

Sara - Happy Birthday! Please forgive Jodi for the "Old Hag" comment. Remember, she's all talk.

Laurie - Welcome aboard!! Howard posted earlier that registration for Philly is suppose to open up on April 1st (no foolin'). I can't verify for sure, but I don't think Philly '07 ever filled up. I seem to remember registration being open the week of the event. Lou would probably know better since he ran the race.

Amy - It's been fun watching your transformation this past week. Your posts went from "Goofy is a bad, bad, bad" to "Hey, I signed up for Goofy again". Funny, I've felt the same way.

Never mind about the question I had. None of my business, really. I was just curious how you and Scott ended up as running partners.

See ya!

HEY PHILLYPEEPS!

Here's a question for you all. How come we, collectively, as posters on this thread, haven't considered an ultramarathon team thing? You know, like Race To The Beach, or what have you? We could raise $ for charity. 200 miles in 24 hours or whatever the heck it is? Think about how fund it'd be...all of us in a van, following whose ever turn it is to run...That'd be Soooooo fun...I get to drive, though:rotfl: :drive:

Laurie - HI. I'm planning to try to get into NYC as well (3rd year in a row trying). If you get in, run both...ok, maybe not, but like Amy said, you can always defer & do NYC in '09 if you really wanna do Philly. Are you guys from around this area? Have either one of you run the NYC 1/2? That's a blast!!

That'd be another great WISH meet...the NYC 1/2 in August...any takers?

I'm a terrible "rider;" I always have to drive :drive: . But, for charity, I'll switch off with you Jodi.

?

Oh good grief, good thing I took on a little part time job so I can pay for all these races!:rolleyes1

I am exhausted, I dropped my mother off at the airport in CLT today, we had a nice visit, but I am SO glad she went home in a timely fashion.

I'm freeeeee!:dance3:

I will catch up tomorrow.

But just wanted to say, Happy Birthday Sara!!!

Oops...sorry Mike. SUPER showing at Goofy! :)

As for being anti-Goofy...I wasn't saying it was so much a bad thing as it was something that one must consider carefully. Having done it I know that it's stupid LOL and not to be taken lightly. I just think having a half or full under the belt before deciding to run that ridiculous two day event is probably advisable LOL! But....common sense hasn't always been one of my strong points. So what do I know  .

Scott and I....good question (did you lose a bet to have to ask that one?) :lmao: ....we got each other through some tough times in terms of running, injuries, and personal stuff over the past few years. He's my best friend and showed his true colors during last year's full when he gave up a screamin' fast marathon time to stick with his injured compadre (me) who could barely walk let alone run. Besides...he's totally crazy, has good taste in music and can put up with my insanity over 26.2 (errr...39.3) miles. Good people there! :thumbsup2

"not from OH" Steve...likewise..nice meeting you. And you did great too :goodvibes . Sorry to get you guys all mixed up. While I follow your thread I am sooo bad with names LOL! And you're all speed demons in my book! :thumbsup2

Jodi...The Reach the Beach deal....I was kind of on a short list to run that with Sunny (from the dis) and a few others a few years back. It never panned out due to everyone getting injured :rolleyes1 ...but it was on my radar. I think it would be a BLAST! The other relay one I've considered is the wineglass marathon. It's not an ultra but you can do a team thing. I'm thinking 8 mile legs makes for more wine drinkin'. :woohoo:

Hi Kira - I am also thinking about the Philly Distance Run.

That's great! I'm almost 100% certain I'm doing that one. I ran into another friend today who will be walking it, and I think I'm going to try to talk my brother into it.

If I do the Distance Run I may be cheering (rather than running) the Philly Marathon, but who knows? There's a lot of time between now and then.

Hi Laurie - I ran Philly last November and I didn't register until 2 weeks before the race. I was bib 21019 out of 22000 runners. I believe they finally closed registration during the last week after 22000. I would expect it to fill up a little quicker this year but you should still have plenty of time.

Thanks for all of the :cake: wishes:hug: . I have to work all day and then get on a plane for MCO after work so not much celebrating going on today:confused3 .

Kira - Loved your bio:thumbsup2 !! I also like you keeping your race options open at this point. There IS a lot of time between now and November and we're pretty good with the peer pressure around here:laughing: . We'll have your sights set on the 26.2 in no time!

AmyBeth - I have to agree with the Goofy sentiments:rolleyes1 . I did the inaugural Goofy and see no reason why I would ever want to do that again. I do remember Sunny trying to get a team for Reach the Beach which does sound like a blast.

Colleen - Congrats to DD on her swim meet:cheer2: . It's great that your Mom was able to be there and :rotfl: that she is more competitive than you are. I aspire to be a really cool Grandma and scare my DD's by frequently being vocal about that fact:lmao: .

Mike - I turn a deaf ear to Jodi from here on out:rolleyes1 I'll always be slightly younger than she ispopcorn::

Chester - I loved your bio as well:thumbsup2 . Oh man, jumping right back in the training for an upcoming event right after Goofy:worship: .

Cindy - Welcome home!! Glad you had a rockin' time and we need more detailspopcorn:: I hope the birthday was memorable:)

Jodi - You've stepped up from Goofy to Ultra's:eek: . I do like the thought of all of us piled in a van like a bunch of college kids on spring break:lmao: . I guess if I had to run a bit for another good time with the WISH'ers then you can definitely count me in girl;) . Ultra = BEAST. No one's going to believe you're not hardcore when you're pounding out ultras:confused3

Okay, I'd better get off the computer and finish packing...

Lou--Thanks for the info..I was hoping to see that. I will have to keep an eye on things so I can get into one race for the fall. I don't want to miss out on both.

Jodi--I REALLY want to do NYC, as I live about 10 min. from the city in Northern NJ, so if I get into NY I am doing it this year. Philly is my second choice if NY doesn't come through (which quite honestly is doubtful!). I actually have seen that half in NYC and I was thinking about it, but we are usually away that weekend so not sure I will be able to swing it!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

No training for me yesterday. I was busy getting ready for my first class I taught yesterday. I think it went well. The students started off staring at me, but I got them to open up a little over the course of the 75 min. It's a tough time for a class 3:35-4:50p. I know I'm running on empty by that point.

:bday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARA :bday: I'm so jealous you're heading to Orlando again. I wish some of the conferences I go to were in Orlando, and give me an excuse to go to WDW.

Laurie- Glad to see you around here. I think I need to throw my application in for NYC too. I know I wouldn't get in this year, but I'd like to run it sometime.

Kira- running, cheering, or serving us pasta... it will be great to see you in Philly.

Lou- Thanks for the info about Philly registration. I didn't think it was a race that closes out quickly. Not like the Marine Corps Marathon that closed in 2 weeks or something like that. Thanks for voting for the photos Lou.

Jodi- I was on the list when Sunny was thinking of the Reach the Beach relay too. However, at that time (2 years ago I think) - I was questioning whether I could even get down to the 10 mpm pace. [Remember that Amy?] I think we were around the same pace at that time. I think it might be fun to run a team event sometime. Like Colleen I need to check the bank account and family schedule. I also think there's a relay race in Vermont that runs down the Green Mountains.

Hi Colleen.

Hello Mike, SilverSteve, and Chester.

Here's my continuing begging for photovotes. Can I get anymore? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller... Bueller...

Hello all

Figured I'd stop being a stranger, pop in and say hello over here...especially since the Philly Marathon is now on our radar :goodvibes: .....and....I have to admit....I kind of like the vibe on this thread :)

I ran again last night and it felt real good, so I think things have recovered well since that Goofy weekend. I did 4 miles with a hill program on the treadmill....felt like the smarter move since my other option was a cold 36 degree drizzle. It's supposed to be a bit nicer tomorrow so hopefully I'll be back outdoors for the run. Gonna do 30-45 minutes of XT today along with some pilates for core work.

Hope everyone has a nice day! Off to go vote for some of Dave's photos...

(hi Amy!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARA!!!!! From one old hag to another:hug: :bday: Have fun in Orlandopopcorn:: popcorn::

OK, Race to the Beach is now being researched!

Hi Scott and Amy – Do come join us in Philly! It’s going to be great. Looks like there will be a ton of people.

Kira – I’ll let you know what I decide about the PDR. It will probably be somewhat of a last minute decision after DH and I see how many other races and vacations we can throw into the next year.

Sara – I’m sorry that you won’t be able to spend your birthday with your family. I did probably have my best birthday ever this year. The Resort was amazing and I just loved being somewhere warm for my birthday - that never happens. I also really love being out on the water. On my actual birthday, we took four different boat rides – we went out on the snorkeling boat (and snorkeled), took out a paddle boat, sailed a hobie cat, and went on a sunset catamaran cruise. It was an awesome trip.

Chester – I love the fact that you ran in the loin cloth. Love the picture.

Colleen – You were right. As you can see above, I loved Jamaica. At your suggestion, I did try a hummingbird (Comments, Mike?). Quite good. I also enjoyed the Purple Rain, Double Trouble, Jamaica Browning, Pina Colada, and a few others I can’t name right now. I never did have a dirty banana.

Jodi – Where is the Ultra in CT? Just curious, I don't think I am ready for more than 26.2 at this point (or that I will ever have a desire to run further). However, relay team races do sound fun . . . Also, that’s crazy that you used to work in Bridgeport. Scary.

Laurie – You could always run the half in Philly if you get into NY. Think of it as a nice recovery run.

Dave – I think I voted for your pictures. If I ranked them a 10, does that mean I voted?:confused3

Ran 4 miles this morning. Not good. I couldn’t believe my pace when I saw it – 10:51. It was supposed to be an easy run, but that’s crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever run that slow before (sure, my MCM average pace was slower than that, but that’s ‘cause I walked a ton). I’ll just chalk it up to post-vacation sluggishness and try again tomorrow. I’m supposed to do a tempo run on Friday – 4 miles at my half marathon goal pace. That would be 9:10. A bit far off from 10:51, wouldn’t you say?
