Hi Guys!

Oh, by the way, I registered for the 2009 Goofy Challenge. I plan on sharing this with my DW next October/November :scared:

I had too much fun (especially with this thread's crew :goodvibes ) and I need to come back for more. I got the jitters and fear of the unexpected out of the way this year; next year I hope to hang at the finish(es) longer and lend more vocal support to the WISH Team.

Kira
Welcome to our little thread. It will be great to have the benefit of your Philly knowledge.

Steve
Perhaps running barefoot and carrying a club?
A little too authentic perhaps.

Lou
I hope you feel better soon. Wish I could send some of our sunshine your way.

Dave
I'm on my way to the photo contest site as soon as I'm done here. Good luck.

Colleen
It was great to meet you last week. Tracy and I really enjoyed Spoodles. And, it was good to run with you for a short while on Sunday. I think Chet now understands the importance of training.

I survived Goofy with no ill affects. Chet, on the other hand, had some sore ankles from the Half and aggravated an old wrestling injury in his knee early into the Full. I caught up to him walking at around 7 miles and decided to stay with him. We ran when he could bear the pain and walked when he needed a rest. He really pushed himself and we finished together in just under 6 hours. It was really cool having other Goofies tell us that they "remembered us from yesterday". We are already signed up to go Goofy again for 2009 and plan on running both together.

Next up for me will be the Country Music Marathon on April 26th, with maybe the Sarasota Half on March 2nd.

I agree 100%. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for making me feel welcome! I'll keep you posted as I finalize my plans for this race.

I keep mentally moving up the date of my first "big race" (now I'm considering the Philadelphia Distance Run in September - it looks really fun!), but I have to watch getting ahead of myself. I have a while before I have to decide.

I'm not sure if I can keep up with the "witty repartee" here, but I'll try to hold my own. :)

Kira:

Hi, we are almost neighbors! I live in North Wilmington, less than a mile from the state line. I will be running in the Philadelphia Marathon and look forward to seeing everyone at the start, if not before.

I will be mainly off the boards while I wrap up my MBA studies at the end of May. My classes start up on February 11, until then I am free to post at will. I will try to pop in every once in a while to let you all know I am still alive during the semester.

My friend Jessica ran in the Philadelphia Marathon this past year and my DW and I went up to cheer her on in Manyunk. I enjoyed cheering for everyone before and after her. I want to run it this year. I want to give those Kenyan's a run for the prize money. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Enjoy.

Howard

Hellloooooo, everyone!!:wave2:

I snuck over here and gathered as much of your future race data as I could to put on the team calendar. Please come and check to see that I didn't miss anyone's event!! Thank you soooo much. :flower3:

You may return to your regularly scheduled postings...:goodvibes

Howard- You're going to chase the Kenyans and steal their prize money? I don't know if that's such a good idea. ;) Good luck finishing up the MBA.

Dave - I voted on some of your photos this morning. I would have voted on more but the site seemed slow for some reason. Maybe it was on my end.

Jodi - I'm getting a little better. Just a bad cough now.

Chester - I think it was the sunshine that got me sick. The cold dry air of the northeast must kill most of the germs because I was fine until I hit WDW. Great job finishing Goofy 2008. The Country Music Marathon sounds like fun. Nashville is a fun town.

Steve - Congrats on signing up for Goofy 2009.

Kira - The PDR is a great race. That was the first race I ever ran last September and was a great time. They call it a Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon because there are bands throughout the course. The Eagles Fight Band was playing "Fly Eagles Fly" at Mile 3! We also had great weather (45 degrees and low humidity) for the race in 2007 which made it nice. You should do it.

Howard - Good luck with your studies. Sorry I missed you last last in Manayunk. I do remember WISH shirts along Main Street. I only wish their was as much inspiration during the last 6 miles of WDW as their was on Main St in Manayunk.

I'll try getting on the TM today for 4 miles. I still have a nagging cough and my chest hurts but I am getting sick of being sick. My wife is a nurse and I could have gotten a flu shot for free but I turned it down. "Those things don't work", I said. I'm the only one in the house that's sick now.

Thanks for voting for the photos Lou. I appreciate it.

Chester- I didn't know you really wore the loincloth for the race. I thought Jodi was just pulling your leg. That's a riot.

SliverSteve- Congrats on signing up for Goofy 2009. Wow, you're going to suck me in with your enthusiasm.

Not much news from me. I teach my first class at SUNY/Geneseo today. I'm excited about it. Hopefully it will be the start of a new career trajectory.

Dave - Good luck with the teaching gig. I hope you enjoy it.

Howard - Enjoy the time off until you are on the other end of the teaching gig.

Lou - Take it easy on the run. Gunk in the chest can really have an impact. For what it's worth, I didn't get a flu shot either.

Colleen - Congrats to your daughter! My DD's do summer swim team and it's a lot of fun (but A LOT of time!). I'm kind of glad they've chosen not to do year round. Too many early mornings.

Sara - I thought you were resting your leg? Rest = No Impact, sister!

Steve
- I called your DW last night and told her you signed up for Goofy! She was thrilled;) .

Kira - Nothing like a race to motivate you to keep on the training wagon. Set that goal and you can do it.

Jodi - I'm off this week. Living the life of luxury, a.ka. playing shuttle bus driver for the girls all week.

Cindy - You back yet? If you're smart you will stay in the islands until it warms up some!

Did I miss anyone?

Well, I too got sucked in and signed up for Goofy again next year. I sent my entry via mail to get the DVC discount so they may be full by the time my application arrives! I'd take that as a sign from above.

Did 7 on the TM last night (too dang cold and icey to even think about going outside) and have a rest day scheduled today. Yippee!

I'm really considering it - it looks like a great first half marathon! It's funny - I've always hated this race because I volunteer for a weekend seminar that often overlaps with the Distance Run. The seminar is at 7th & Chestnut, and people have a terrible time trying to get there on that Sunday morning. I like the idea of being one of the people stopping traffic, instead of one of the people in traffic!

Howard
- Hello to another Delaware Valley resident! One of my closest friends lives in Wilmington; it's a really nice city.

Hi All!!!

I'm back.:sad1: I had an amazing vacation and really didn't want to leave. We landed at National Airport last night at 10pm (after a layover in Philly) and now I'm back at work. I see I've got lots of catching up to do on this thread and I really want to read everyone's race reports, but I suppose I should get some catching up done at work first. I'll hopefully pop back in at lunchtime.

Hey Howard,

Best of luck on the MBA studies stretch-run. :thumbsup2 It was great meeting you during marathon weekend and hanging out in the corral prior to the Half start.

Lou....WTG at Disney. Dude you ROCKED the pace. Nicely done.
Amy - I may have rocked the first 20 miles but the humidity rolled me the last 6. I still have a hard time watching the video of me crossing the finish.

I see you are scheduled for the Disneyland 1/2 in Aug. So am I! Should be a cool race! I'm also 99% certain I'll be running the Philly marathon...barring any injuries.

Lou

Lou...Wow...yeah...the humidity was BRUTAL. It slowed us down a lot the last 6 too. Scott got debilitating cramps in his legs around mile 20 and it made for a tough finish. I know a lot of folks were suffering out there. I saw a lot of people sick on the sides! We were on target for a sub 5 hour marathon but the humidity did us in.

Jodi and Steve....HOLY COW! :worship: WTH...you guys did amazing in the Goofy! We were hoping for a 2;30 half and a 4:30 full. The heart was willing but the body was unable. Next year we plan to go back with a vengeance. Any advice? You two kicked butt!!! CONGRATS!!!!

Colleen...just read thru this thread and saw how well you did in the marathon. You really hit your goal and then some!!! Awesome job!!!

Had a blast there doing the half last year, it's a really fun event! (...kind of jealous..)
