Phantom Child for Free Dining?

You all know it is wrong and are just splitting hairs to try and make it seem ok. It is not ethical at all, and is in essence, stealing from Disney. When you have to lie in order to get what you want, that should be a clue that it is not something ok to do.

Very wise words - to live by! :thumbsup2

I am going to say what I say every time I see a "passing my child off as 3", "reusing mugs", ect threads. Stealing is stealing, no matter how you try to justify what you are donig to make yourself feel better. Bottom line you are taking something you know you are not entitled to by deception, and that is theft.

What are the requirements? I thought it was simply "pay money during this time frame".

You could argue that people who buy 10-day passes and stretch them out over 2-3 vacatations are stretching the intention of the 10-day ticket. Same thing for the people who buy an annual pass for their end-of-June trip this year, and use it again for an early-June trip next year -- they're squeezing every bit of good out of Disney's offerings.

I'm missing out on why the OP shouldn't be able to BUY a ticket and use it later.

There's no rule that a ten day pass has to be used within a certain timeframe, if you have the no-expiration option. If they didn't want you to stretch your ticket out over more than one trip, why would they even offer that option? There's certainly no rule that you can't use an annual pass for two trips within the year it is valid - I can't even understand why there would be such a rule, since the whole point of the pass is to use it multiple times over the course of the year.

I've never tried to call Disney and say we're a party of three but we want to pay for four people so we can get the extra credits. Do they allow that? Because if they don't, then your other examples really aren't comparable. You don't have to lie to do the two other things you mentioned.

The OP can buy a ticket and use it later. But if the OP has to lie and make up a phantom person so they can get that ticket, then that isn't ethical. If you can't do it without lying then you know you're breaking the rules and you shouldn't be doing it.

I don't even understand why this thread is still open. Are there special rules here about breaking Disney rules because we're on the "budget" board? I don't know why a CM would recommend such a thing, probably one of the same ones telling people they can use extra ticket days to park hop. It is not okay - which is why Disney has in the past made families show everyone in their party at check-in - most often during free dining.

There doesn't seem to be any grey area here to me.

The whole point of an AP is to get you to squeesze in as many trips as you can. When we have an AP we take several trips to squeeze our money's worth...we spend many thousands more than we would have without the AP. So...it really costs us more money in the long run. Lots more.

The OP wants to LIE about having a 4th person in their party to get more meals. To me, it makes no sense but whatever. If I was that worried about going hungry, I'd take some bologna with me.

Why would one need an additional persons worth of food? Just curious.
I dont know about the op but some people might want the extra dining credits so that they can use them for signature restaurants.

Just my two cents here but...

Im not saying I agree with what the origional poster wants to do...or that I disagree....

HOWEVER...

in my opinion you need to look at this as a business person...

Disney have decided that, in order to sell a ticket at this time of year, and fill a room....they are happy to give away the free dining. So obviously the ticket and hotel is the money maker for them.

I dont really think that disney cares WHO uses the dining credits, so long as they are getting the money for the ticket and hotel.
Whether the man takes an extra child and the child eats the food, or whether there is no extra child and the family shares the food Disney STILL gets the same amount of money, and the same amount of food (if not probably less) is eaten.

Im not saying this should be the done thing, but I dont think Disney would really care, so long as it made the ticket sale!

As a business owner myself I would be happy to sell the extra ticket/hotel space.

You are all forgetting that this man is not suggesting STEALING this food (as some of you are making it sound)

He is trying to pay MORE money to Disney. And at the end of the day...thats what a company (yes even disney) is about.

Im not saying it should become a trend...but I do think many of you have been unnecessarily mean to this man.
