Pez Easter Egg Hunt Debacle

I heard of this happening in the past as well. Parents pushing away other kids so that their special snowflakes could grab as many eggs as possible, or even stealing eggs out of the hands of kids who already found some.

This happens all the time where we live. A few Easter egg hunts had "prize eggs" here hidden among the rest that had bikes, etc. Parents go nuts and think their kids are more entitled than the rest. It's ridiculous.

I'll bet Pez doesn't do another freebie event like this next year. Why would parents need to help their 9-yr-olds hunt Easter eggs?

Somehow trampling a kid or parents stealing eggs just doesn't fit into the spirit of Easter. Or any other holiday.
Yet another example of the sad rise in Helicopter Parenting. Snowy can't even be trusted anymore to gather his/her own eggs. He might not be the best and get the most eggs. But never fear, Mommy and Daddy will make sure Snowy has the most eggs even if it means cheating, stealing and bloodying other children.

So sad that adults have to act that way and ruin what should have been a pleasant event. We tried taking ODD to a couple egg hunts in town when she was little and experienced pretty much the same thing. We've given up on public egg hunts.

Adult people disgust me. To act like that at an event created for kids is appalling. The ones who whined about it were no better. What did they expect the company employees to do in the face of that boorish mob?

Maybe there needs to be an adults only Easter egg hunt, for the adult snowflakes? They can pay an entry fee (even though some will think they are entitled to do it for free) and collect their own eggs for themselves.

Just looking at the pictures, anyone could see before it began all heck was going to break loose. Too many people. If we had been there, we would've left after just one look.

I wonder if w'ere going to see lawsuits popping up against PEZ now.. sounds like some of the people quoted in the article are heading that way.

I like the first complainer in that article which basically amounted to "If you're going to host an egg hunt, you better teach people to drive."

It's happened at every event held here in my area, whether it is an Easter egg hunt or a Christmas present or back-to-school give-away. About 30 years ago, they had a "marshmallow drop" from a helicopter at the fairgrounds and had to call the police in.

If I was involved with a company or organization that does these hunts or give-aways, I would strongly advise that they be done away with. If it was just left up to the kids there would, of course, be a little pushing, shoving and grabbiness, but when you add the parents to the mixture, it becomes dangerous. With so many people carrying guns these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a shooting one day at an event like this.

I used to do a little neighborhood hunt when dd was little. The first year I had to put dd in the house because she was running around like a lunatic grabbing all the eggs ahead of the other kids. After that year I had to set a limit on the number of eggs each kid was allowed to find. It's pretty embarrassing when your own kid is the worst behaved in the group.

This reminds of a patriotic celebration we witnessed at the Magc Kingdom. While a band played near townhall, the CMs handed out small penny flags to the kids so they could wave them. Right beside us a woman reached over the backs of two children and took the flags out of their hands and gave them to her children. While I am standing there with my mouth open in amazement a CM saw what happened and brought more flags to the kids. I could not believe any adult would behave that way!

I love how people want to blame the company. Were they suppose to have cops there with tear gas? These people were all asked to wait. They ignored that request and it started a chain reaction of greed and selfishness. This is proof of evolution. People still act like a bunch of APES!

Reminds me of some of the children's Mardi Gras parades where I've seen adults snatch beads thrown from floats away from children.

Soon, events like this just won't happen because companies won't want the liability issues

I was just going to post that the Easter
Egg Hunt incident sounds like Mardi Gras.

Same thing happened here at the Eater Egg hunt sponsored by a local church. When they announced there were "prize" eggs parents went plowing through the fields trying to find the eggs. Assaulting 3 year olds for a bag of Oriental Trading Company crap is pretty pathetic.

Took my kid to an Easter egg hunt yesterday. It was a paid event at a large city park. The volunteers were mostly high school aged.

My kid was in the 4-6 age group. There were a few unfortunate things. First thing that happened was that kids were allowed in before the start, and a few took off and started grabbing plastic eggs. I think they were made to toss them back. The larger kids (I suspect many were overage) were sometimes pushing the hands away of smaller kids in the vicinity. Then for whatever reason some adults were in there. I was thinking maybe it was with 3 year olds who missed the earlier time. However, the adults were cleaning up faster than the kids. I've been through these hints where adults were allowed to walk and guide their kids and never grabbed any myself.

I suppose it's hard to control really large crowds. This was a very nice event, but I've come to expect this kind of thing will happen to some degree. Outside of tossing out people for bad behavior, what can be done?

DH is really upset by this - he's a HUGE Pez collector; we live within driving distance and not only have we been there, he looks forward to taking DS there.

Unfortunately, this is an annual complaint in our town as well. We have different hunts for different age groups, but older kids go in claiming that they're "helping a younger sibling" when they aren't. They push and shove, the parents push and shove, there are reports of parents telling their kids to take eggs from other kids because "they have too many and you don't have any," etc. I'm not a fan of the whole everyone-gets-a-trophy thing, but in this case, every kid gets a little goody bag; there are no prizes for finding the most eggs, so there's no good reason to be mean to little children.
