Does anyone travel with pets? We just got a dog about a month ago and planning a Disney trip 2012. What do most people do with their pets if you have no one to watch them? We may travel with him down to Disney. Are there good places near Disneyland for watching pets durning the day/night for the whole time?

There is a kennel near the gates. It is first come first serve and you need to run out and take care of your dog, Disney does not do it for you.

That Anahiem Plaza allows pets as does the Portofino Inn and Suites. You will need a pet carrier when leaving you dog in the room.

We raise service dogs, so we are in a slightly different situation than the OP. The kennel at Disneyland is clean and they do a great job. They are not allowed to handle the animals (and I don't want someone handling my dogs) but they will feed and water. Be aware you will need to bring your vaccination records.

Many hotels do allow pets, but often have pretty weird rules. The Anaheim Plaza will require that you stay in a smoking room and charge you $10 a day. The Residence Inn is our favorite. We just stayed there this past weekend, it is our usual place to stay. The Sheraton is also great and even provide dog beds!

None of the hotels will allow you to leave the dog unattended in the room. They will be required to be on leash, and crated if you need to leave the room without the dog. (Crates are your friend.) Be aware you will not be able to take the dog on ART unless it is in a crate.

Call you vet and have them recommend a good kennel near your home. That way you know your pet is being taken good care of while you're gone.

In the 14 years we've had our dog, we have only traveled with him a couple times. It is usually more hassle than it's worth and not a lot of fun for the dog if you are going to leave him for extended periods during the day. We usually leave our dog with a pet sitter where our dog stays at his house. A few times when he hasn't been available, we have hired sitters who come and stay at our house and watch him - these sitters have usually been vet techs who work at our vet's office. Hope this helps. :)

Start asking friends and family about pet sitters and leave him home.

How happy will he be being in a crate all day while you are at Disneyland?

Failing finding a pet sitter, look for a kennel at home that won't just keep them in a cage all day either. You can also Google "dog day care" and either Anaheim or Sacramento at the end and find places. Camp Bow Wow is in Anaheim up towards Cal State Fullerton, but they have limited hours, it is designed mostly for local workers.

We found a wonderful woman who comes to our home and stays with our dog and two cats. I called our vet and asked who they recommended. It's not cheap, but I know everyone's well cared for.

The cats could care less, but for SURE the dog is much happier not being kenneled all day.

Hi pixiemom. We'll be in DL next week....and just made reservations for our dog at Barklands Manor Kennel (in Orangevale - close to you!). Ideally we would like to keep him at home, but we couldn't find anyone to dog sit. And when we got dog sitters while camping last summer, he was sprayed by a skunk, somehow rubbed his collar off (due to it stinking of skunk, I assume), and our back gate was left open. Thankfully he didn't get out and all was ok - but this trip I want to know that he'll be safe. Normally he's with us inside our house much of the day, so I know he'll be kind of lonely at the kennel. But he'll survive! We've used Barklands before and the owners are very nice.

We don't take our dog to DL with us because we don't want to subject him to the drive. But some dogs are fine in the car for that long. Good luck deciding what to do. Congrats on the new addition to the family!

If you are wanting to bring him down, also note there is a PetSmart Hotel where you can kennel him there.

we use camp bow wow here in las vegas. our dogs, and us really like the people who work there. we even have the app so we can watch them while we are at the park. The pups will be there from tomorrow until saturday and we already have another three nights planned over new years.

But i have heard of people not liking camp bow wow in other cities so you would have to go visit places you are interested in and decide for yourself

The Red Lion Hotel accepts pets. I know they accept small dogs, not sure about bigger dogs though?

Thanks for all the info and replies :). There is alot to consider. Our dog has been getting carsick on little rides we take him on in town so maybe keeping him home at a kennel would be best. I will have to research a little more on some near my home.

The kennel in Orangvale, how much do they charge to keep the dog, is it a daily charge and do they provide food or is it extra? I have not looked into this type of thing and not sure what to expect. It would be better to use a place that has a good review from someone who has used it.
