All I am saying is just be responsible people and don’t shove your pets or whatever else you like down everybody elses throat. If someone is allergic to dogs or just doesn’t like them they have the right to not have a dog in the room/site next door.
Agreed!
That holds true for pets, smoke, music, kids and anything else you can think of where being irresponsible about it impedes on someone else's good time.
It just seems there's a generalization being made that pet owners at the Fort are far
less responsible than... parents, smokers, take your pick... and for some to the further extreme, that pets just shouldn't be allowed at the Fort period.
I'd be willing to argue that people that travel/camp with their pets actually
more responsible on the whole than pet owners in general (and doing rescue for 10 years, I've seen a lot of what the general pet public is like) ...but at the very least I'd say they're as responsible on the whole as the general population.
Of course sadly these days that's not saying much.
I
can say that over the 3 weeks we were there a month ago, there were FAR more instances of being disturbed by 'humans gone wild' than by irresponsible pet owners. And we were on a pet loop surrounded by dogs and spent a lot of time just hanging out at our site.
We didn't encounter one dog yapping all day (or night).
We did see dogs in places they weren't allowed - once at the beach and once near the pool.
But
far more frequently we saw golf carts in places they weren't allowed - including the other side of the 300 canal (almost every other day) and in the grassy area near the cabins along the main road (they were chasing the deer one evening)
And you can bet those carts were being driven by humans.
We did see "deposits" that weren't picked up on occasion. But to be fair all but 1 was located on the dog walk or in the dog park. The 1 that was just outside the dog walk.
Not that I'm condoning leaving remnants of your dog behind ANYWhere, but
see comment above about rate of responsibility in the general population.
Dogs didn't keep me up until after 2am one weekend, dogs weren't racing their golf carts around crashing them into utility boxes and dogs weren't screaming around playing tag between the campsites after midnight.
Yes, a few bad apples do spoil it for everyone. But to make assumptions that pets shouldn't be allowed at the Fort because you're "sure" that one will bother you on your trip there... um... that would be the trip that hasn't happened yet??
And I'm talking about the people concerned about the "annoyance factor" only - not those who have serious allergy issues.
If that potential annoyance really is a concern, than you really might as well stay home because, as another PP noted, while no one can guarantee that you'll end up being in the
small minority of people who've had to deal with an irresponsible pet owner, I
can guarantee you that some HUMAN at
some point in your trip, most definitely
will do something that will annoy you.
If the Fort is really moving towards a primarily "pet friendly" resort, I do think they should still reserve some non-pet loops too.
But worrying about what MAY happen, and condemning the entire pet-owning population for it???
All we can do as humans is be responsible and considerate.. and hope our neighbors will do the same.
And I'm out....
