I was hoping some of you may be able to answer a few questions for me. My family will be going to Disney in a few months and are bringing our dog (a small, very well-behaved doxie mix). Because she has a severe case of separation anxiety, she needs to be with us at night and not in a kennel. We would like to stay on the Disney property, but my understanding is that Fort Wilderness is the only place dogs are allowed. We do not camp, nor do we have an RV, so we would have to rent one.

Can anyone tell me if they have been able to rent a pet-friendly RV while at Disney? Was it caonvenient and/or worth the cost? What was your overall experience as far as camping with a dog at Ft. Wilderness.

Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

We're on a budget, so we would prefer a less expensive option as opposed to a luxury RV. There will be at most 3 people, plus our dog. Basically, we prefer to stay on the Disney property for the experience and convenience, if we can do so without incurring an enormous additional expense for renting an RV.

I loved being at the Fort with my dog. I would often times get a pet loop even though we were in a tent, just so my dog could be with us while we were at the site. She had huge separation anxieties too. I used to take her to my mom's when I first got her for a couple of years, she'd just sit and whimper at the door till I got back. But at the kennels, she did amazing. She'd bark a little as I walked away, but she'd just curl up soon after and wait for me to get back.

Granted this was back when Disney ran the kennels and I used the ones there at the Fort. She loved the grass field next to it. If a horse was standing up at the fence, it made for an interesting meeting. But she never barked at the horse. Here's a couple of pictures of her enjoying her kennel vacation. And the ladies that used to work it were the nicest people ever.

I was wondering the same thing! I have a shorkie who will be going with us on our next DW adventure..I was thinking some of the cabins are pet friendly? But they were really expensive. Would love to rent a vintage rv that is in good shape(ie fantastic A/C) for a trip to the fort...Good luck with your trip!

I don't think any of the cabins are pet friendly.

My friends and I have been looking into a similar situation as the OP. It would over double the cost of the trip if we boarded our dogs. We did look into some places that rent RV's. They say either "No Pets" or "Pet Friendly". We plan on sleeping the nights in a tent, but having the pups in the RV during the day (with the A/C on) while we are playing in the parks.
