Once Disney caved in and said they would redo Splash, that opens up the floodgates. Every ride needs to be inspected, and now most rides will be found to be offensive. And changing the rides will not undo what happened in the past.

Nobody is erasing history. If you stop flying the flag, it doesn't change that the Confederacy once existed. If you change or eliminate parts of movies, it says you realize that people who created it were wrong and bigoted, and it shows the world has become educated. It says "what happened here was wrong, and we are done giving it the time of day". Why would you (general) want to keep showing future generations symbols and examples of hate, discrimination, and stupidity?

If you know better, you do better. It's not caving, or being PC. It is being a good human being who has compassion for all people.

I'm glad we have APs this year, despite the restrictions. We have 3 trips scheduled for the next several months, in which we can ride all of the classic Disney rides that the PC police are trying to take away. That way, after Disney caves into more demands from random college students on Twitter, we'll at least have our memories. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Little Mermaid ride, Be Our Guest, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Cinderella's castle removed, too. After all, those films have politically incorrect depictions, as well.

I'm part African-American, btw. Not offended by the rides or the movies. Just sick to death of armchair politicos interfering with others' creative expression. Books are being censored, movies withdrawn, classic theme park rides de-themed. It's a terrible onslaught that will have a chilling effect on future creative efforts.

I keep thinking about those breakthrough TV shows in the '70s that got the country candidly opening up and talking about bigotry - like Lear's All in the Family and Maude. Those shows could never exist today - the PC police would butcher the scripts to oblivion - to the point they'd be so watered down, the impact would be gone. Sadly, those shows actually furthered what people say they want - open dialogue and an honest, truthful look at bigotry.

I get it. I am not offended by Dumbo. I don't think the ride should be removed or the movie banned...but I'm not black. I don't have a problem with anyone saying it should be, and I wouldn't have a problem if changes were made.

Apparently kneeling is disrespectful, protesting is frowned upon, marching is too inconvenient, rioting definitely out, removing statues and flags of confederate traitors is erasing history and starting an online petition to reconsider an amusement park ride/movie is also bad.

HOW EXACTLY WOULD YOU ALL LIKE FOR PEOPLE TO STAND UP AND SAY THAT'S ENOUGH? Please...can anyone please tell me what exactly would be acceptable to you

Going away and shutting up to leave things status quo is the only thing that's acceptable to those that object to others saying "enough" because they feel threatened.

This is why it is all about context. All in the Family as a show is very much against racism and bigotry, but if you just see a clip of Archie Bunker saying something offensive then it looks pretty bad. The point of the show was that Archie was in the wrong, but that despite his ignorant opinions there were also levels of complexity to the character. Norman Lear was making a statement, but these days if you don't help in the exact way that is deemed acceptible then you are shunned by those who would and should be your allies.

The issues at hand are very complicated but people only scream for the simplest of "solutions" that don't really do anything and only further the misunderstanding and divisiveness that our society suffers from. The problem with "cancel culture" is that it leaves no room for discussion to make real and lasting progress. There's a saying about those who don't learn history, but I forget how it goes.

Well, since the first Live in Front of a Studio Audience All in the Family rated so well that there was a second one - using the exact same scripts from the original series - I would have to disagree.

You can protest, march, take down flags etc...you can't erase history because it offended you, regardless of how bad it was.

If you want you can find something that offends about every President, movie, book, etc. As a nation we are placing today's standards on people of the past who lived at a different time. Without these leaders the United States would not have become the country we are today. I know that many people say we suck - I read it multiple times on Twitter and facebook but we have become the country that many look up to and want to be. That did not happen by accident. Yes there are many issues in our past that contributed to our success, but we can not simply erase our past and hope the future will look better. Our nation is very divided and the angry is truly frightening. We need to raise up together in order to move on.

Changing behavior isn't erasing history. The Confederacy still lost, whether you fly the flag or not. Something that happened, happened. Continuing to pass that behavior along, however, is wrong. Stopping it, or changing it, isn't erasing it. It is showing you learned from it..
