Peter Pan's Flight - Can Someone Explain...

DF and I will do a 30/45 minute wait for this one because it is just so classic Disney, it would not be a disney trip without riding it...with that said I had never ridden it until my 3 trip to WDW thought it would be to childish. DF and I both agree our hearts fill with giddy childlike joy on this ride and we have "you can fly" stuck in our heads.

ITA with the nostalgia factor, that's why I am compelled to ride it on every trip.

Also, it is a huge thrill-factor ride if you are three or four years old - you're flying!! :hyper: For those who are too little to try things like the mountains or Soarin or other such 'actual' thrill rides, this one rates as one of their most heart-pounding excitement-producing rides. Or so I've figured from the reactions of the several two-to-four-year-olds I've ridden with over the last decade.

My dh and I wondered the same thing. What makes people stand in that kind of a line???? For PP???

One ride with my 4yr old answered that question. He adored it and wanted to ride it again and again. So, we got there early and used FP when necessary.

It does have quite an appeal for little boys :goodvibes . And for their Moms!

That all makes a good deal of sense. I can certain see why people still feel that it's a must-see. I remember my whole family reacting in surprise the first time we rode it when our pirate ships left the ground. And the slowness of the ride and the loading probably factors in as well. Plus I can see how it could be a particular draw for little boys visiting the park who may or may not be interested in the more princess-themed stuff.

Thanks for all the answers.

Actually -- one of the reasons is not that the ships are slow, but the capacity of the ships. Snow white, Winnie, Small World, all hold a larger number of people. Peter Pan only holds 2 or 3 while SW and Winnie hold up to 5 at least so that cuts capacity right in half right there. I think there were original plans to make it a 2 bench ride...maybe budgets or weight constraints caused the change.

Because it's one of the rides that kids like and parents don't hate.

BTW, I just can't do IASW again. :lmao:

Why does this ride always seem to be so crowded? DH and I ended up skipping it on our most recent trip (not a huge deal since we weren't set on seeing it) and pretty much every time we've gone lately, the lines have been really long. Nearly every other ride that gets extremely lengthy queues I can understand: it's a WDW classic, it has a princess, it's Winnie the Pooh, whatever. I know "Peter Pan" is a classic Disney film and the new "Fairies" property may have helped the popularity of Tinker Bell and her friends and associates. (Though we started noticing this before "Fairies" got off the ground.) But I still just don't get what makes it so ridiculously popular. Maybe it's just because I think it's showing its age and could use some updating. I like the ride well enough and I'll go on it if it's not crowded, but I just can't see waiting over an hour to see it or battling it out for Fastpasses for some late hour of the day. Thoughts?

It has always been a very busy ride. Children and adults love it. It isn't quite as popular as Dumbo but it is up there.

Not just little boys!!! I can't go to MK (or DL) without riding Peter Pan at least once. It has been my favorite ride since I was a little girl. When I think of MK, aside from walking down Main Street and seeing the castle, PP is the 1st thing I think of. I have always looked forward to that ride. I can't really explain it. Something about the whole feeling that you are flying. My DD had her 1st trip in December at 2 yrs 10 mths. She already loved both Peter Pan movies and watches them over and over. So... guess what her absolute favorite ride was? I lost count of how many times we rode Peter Pan on our December trip, but I think it was at least 5. I agree that the fast pass really slows down the regular line.

Because, no matter how many times I've ridden it, I still get a thrill when the ship goes through the nursery window and takes flight over the ever-adorable, beautifully designed city of London.

1) Slow-loading and low capacity
2) Most popular ride in Fantasyland
3) Fastpass makes stand-by even slower
4) The whole family can enjoy it, nobody sits out like Space and Splash

I think a previous poster had it right when they mentioned the nostolgic aspect.

They changed Snow White, the dumped Mr. Toad:mad: :sad1:  they don't have Pinocchio, Alice, or Storybook canal boats like DLR. Winnie is new (er), Philharmagic is awesome, but also new. It's basically just the carousel, IASW, and Pan left for those of us who dare to admit we remember all those older rides (and IASW doesn't count since so many ppl break out in hives when that song starts playing)

I can remember riding Peter Pan as a tot, but it never really appealed that much to me. As far as nostalgia goes, give me Pirates or the Mansion any day.

Riding it makes me miss being able to play VMK! I loved to let my character ride around on that ride! My favorite part is seeing all the "cars" going down the streets in London!

*sigh* I love that ride!

I think it's a great ride. And my DS4 likes it because he thinks it looks like Super Mario Galaxy. :rotfl2:

I have always loved Peter Pan, last year waited 30 minutes in may for it, however it was really 1 hr (we timed it). So this year that will be a FP for us. Something about it is truly magical to me.

It is awesome, that's why people are keep on riding it and really loves it, same us here. :lmao:

Wow - we haven't ridden it in years. We usually skip it because of the line. Since so many people love it, I guess we will FP it this year and see if our kids like it. They are 7 and 9, but they love rides like Rock-N-Rollercoaster, Expedition Everest and TOT. Who knows, maybe they don't know what they are missing. :)

I love this ride! I remember the first time I went on it when I was a kid. I though the part when your looking down on the London streets was the coolest.
