We just got back from seeing Universal's Peter Pan. It was good. It was one of those movies, that was cute, and left a bulge in my throat, from wanting to cry, about the ending. I never read the book, so wasn't sure of the real ending. It's funny, because I could see how little Disney really took from the book, for their story of it. My negatives, were it for some reason seemed like a short movie. Like it seemed like the movie just starts, and it's already in the fighting with Captain Hook. However maybe that is, because last week when we went to the movies, we saw LOTR and that is a LONG movie! The pixie dust was a neat effect, but wish they could have done a better job with the alligator, making it look not so fake.
The previews that Universal was showing was about two tigers, looks cute, think it has some word of "Brother" in it.
And a question, they showed preview for Scooby2, and it's a WB film, so how come Universal can have Scooby, etc., in their parks. Are they sisters companies? Because it's not like Universal has lots of other WB characters (Bugs Bunny,Batman).

Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see this movie.

A solid film. A wonderful telling of the story. Tink was a little over-the-top and it detracted from the film a bit. Otherwise, it was very well done.

Because Scooby was originated by Hanna-Barbera, and Universal probably has some contract with them. Also the rights to certain characters (Spongebob, Tweety, Taz, etc) are easier to get than others...

We loved the new Peter Pan. It was a wonderful telling of the story. The characters had alot more depth than in other versions.

To confuse you even more, there's Scooby Doo rides at Six Flags and Paramount parks. It's all about licensing... :)

Forgot to add, that you guys, may wanna see this movie, just to see the previews alone! :p The new Jennifer Garner movie is previewed. It looks cute, but like i say, rentable, but not movieable. It one of the movies, that already been done. She makes a wish to be older, going to bed at age 13, and she wakes up age 30.

For a different view point:
I took my two daughters, aged 5 and 7, to see Peter Pan yesterday. Personally I thought the movie was too LONG for little ones (2 hrs 5 min). My younger one started asking halfway through the movie if it was almost over. There were several scenes that seemed dark and sinister, including some of pirates being killed with a sword, which I thought was unneccessary. Other scenes were uplifting, though I would stop short of saying "magical", which I read in a critic's review. The best part were the two young actors who played Peter and Wendy, both of whom are hugely attractive and appealing. Then again, I didn't remember the original story having a romance between the two.
Maybe it's because we just saw Elf last week, which we absolutely loved, but this movie just didn't thrill us. :(

We (my family- including sister & her children) saw Peter Pan on Christmas day- we all loved it overall. And even our youngest children didn't squirm much- especially considering it's not an animated film! (which is really saying something for our 3 & 4yr olds)

However, I do agree that Tink was a little "over the top". At one point I started thinking OMG... my image of Tink (who I love btw-one of my favs...) is seriously getting tarnished here. Then I just put myself in denial and decided I wasn't going to "believe" in this rendition of her. LOL (over the top meaning I always thought she was jealous of Wendy but not enough to want to MURDER her! Which she tried to do not only once, but twice... and at one point thought she HAD gotten her killed and wasn't the least bit upset about it either..)

I always thought there was a little "something" going on between Peter Pan and Wendy darling... a little child-type romance/crush thing. I thought that is why Tink was jealous of how close PP & Wendy were becoming or could become. I didn't know she was jealous from the moment PP & Wendy met though... LOL

When we saw this- I honestly didn't pay attention to the fact that it was universal's movie and not Disney's. I remember at a few points of the movie I was thinking hmmm, this doesn't seem like something Disney would do- seemed a little graphic/violent in places. Then I found out afterwards ofcourse that it wasn't a Disney film. LOL

Just saw the movie today! I absolutely loved it, has a nice storyline for adults to follow and all the cool stuff for the kids too. Loved the special effects, I will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. The actors/actresses were great, especially the ones that played wendy and peter-really conveyed emotion well. My daughter absolutely loved it (age 7) she sat there so quiet and transfixed during the entire movie.

If you ever get a chance to see the original musical (There are versions with Mary Martin and Kathy Rigby as Peter available out there), you will see that Tinkerbell is immediatly jelous of Wendy, even referring to her as a "silly ***". Upon return to Neverland, she flies ahead and tells the Lost Boys that Peter wants them to shoot the "Wendy Bird", and Toodles shoots her with a bow and arrow.

There are major references to Wendy having a big crush on Peter (anyone remember why a thimble is referred to as a kiss?).

Interesting opinions here. I, too, loved the film, especially the two leads. It almost seemed that if they'd shot the movie a week later, the kids would have been too old for the parts -- which is the whole point, I guess. These two are supposed to be just at the threshold of adolescence, when childhood innocence gives way to yucky stuff like love and romance and crushes.

One thought that crossed my mind was whether Universal, now that it has an (apparently) successful Peter Pan film in its library, will put a Pan attraction in the parks.

Any thoughts?

Here's Universal's big chance to use Mt. Crumpet for 10 months of non-Christmas events, "The Neverland Snow Plummet"!
Won't Disney be jealous?!

Saw this movie today - loved it - Peter and Wendy characters very good - lots of emotion and from the onset there's undertones of a real love story between the two developing as if any minute Peter will be leading young Wendy astray!!;) Actually....If he'd been any older I think most of the female audience (and possibly some males??!) would have quite happily been lead astray too!!!:p

Still haven't seen it, but these reviews, make me want to see it more and more! Do you think it's appropriate for children and will they get it if they have seen the Disney version?

Hi SpideyHulk24, very much a children's film. There are just loving undertones accompanied with the way Peter looks at Wendy, but nothing happens of course! My children both loved the film.

Okay, well I must give a different opinion on this movie. I thought it was a much better movie than Cat in the Hat. I liked the actors, the scenery and all the effects but I had a problem with the story line.

I did not like Tinkerbell at all. In my mind, she is sweet, kind and magical. I mean who wouldn't want their on Tink, right? But not this one. Trying to kill your friend, full of jealousy and rage, no way.

And Peter Pan giving Wendy those impure looks (maybe those were his "happy" thoughts). ;)

I've never read the book, so it probably follows the book's story line. But I prefer the watered down (and cleaned up) version from Disney.

The woman whose kids I babysit told me she saw Peter Pan with her children. She said she thought it was VERY good and that she was impressed. She felt it was a great children's movie, but it was entertaining enough for the parents as well. Just thought I'd spread her opinion! :)
