Pete and crew and Disers, tens of thousands of lurkers thank you!

Hi All, and happy late Easter!

Thank you for all the nice birthday wishes. I was very disappointed when we didn't make it to WDW for my birthday, but I am having fun here. Thank you all for being so welcoming.

I cannot wait for DIS-A-Palooza! That will be so much fun!!!! I promise not ask any questions about it. I don't want John's harp music following me like Peter Pan's Crocodile. :) It will be so great to meet new friends. That will mean the world to me (no pun intended). I hope I don't end up in a sistern though.

I have 2 dogs named Ariel and Belle. My room is decrorated in WDW stuff. My Grandmother was an art teacher and artist. When the Studios first opened, Grandma did a painting of the Earfle Tower for my room. I love the monorail and the TTA. I had always wanted to ride a Disney roller coaster, so on one of our trips, my Dad carried me onto Big Thunder Mountain. We have video of all the color draining out of my face. :rotfl2: I decided that the TTA was fast enough for me. :) One of my favorite things to do is to memorize every word of attraction Narrations. My life-long dream is to be a WDW Cast Member. Many people think that is not possible with my disability, but I truly believe in what Walt said...."If you can dream it, then you can do it."

As for people making comments in the parks, Kevin is right. Many people just are not aware of what it is like to be in or control a wheelchair. I work as a greeter at Wet 'n' Wild in Greensboro, NC to save up money to go to college at UCF. I've heard all kinds of comments. Some are nasty. Like this lady who told the water park that disabled people should not work there. However, many of the comments come from people who want to say something nice, but it comes out completly wrong. A lady came up and hugged me, and said "Handicapped people are so sweet, no matter what they loook like." Then, there are the down right strange comments. A lady did not notice my uniform or Employee ID tag. She approached me and asked "How much did you pay to get in?" I explain that I work there. She says "Oh well, do brain damaged people, like you, get a discount?" :rotfl2: Then the sad ones are the parents who don't allow their children to approach or talk to me. This nice little boy came up and just said hi to me. His mother pulled him away, and actually said "Don't talk to anyone in a wheelchair."

What Kevin said about bathrooms on the March 25th show is absolutely right. I have never had a problem at Disney, but flawed access is a fact of life that disabled people have to deal with regularly.

I have many frustrations in my life that are related to my disability and accessibility. Disney makes those frustrations disappear. For that, I will always be thankful.

Some people who meet me do not understand my passion and desire to be a cast member. They feel I am chasing rainbows.....one guy even told me "You need to forget about Disney. It will never happen." My family is extremely supportive, and think it is great that I found the DISboards. My parents are doing everything they can to make my dreams come true. We come about twice a year, but have never done a meet of any kind. DIS-A-Palooza will be a fun new adventure for us.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you. I admire you and the team very much. You all are carrying out Walt's vision. "I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained." That is just awesome.

I will be nearby very soon.

I do the same thing. I do so much reading and listening that I rarely have time to post. Made an exception today just to let everyone know that although I may not post a lot I love to linger, learn and listen. Thanks to everyone.................

Hello! I have been listening to the podcast since late 2006 while planning the family trip for summer 2007. Helps deliver the 'Disney fix' in between trips to WDW. Truly appreciate the site and the info/antics of everyone involved. Just don't get much time to look at the boards, but listening to the podcast while doing other things is a nice way to slip away from the daily grind. Keep up the great work.

Scott

Another Lurker here! I found these boards because of the Podcast, not the other way around. Hopefully I'll find topics that I can comment on more often, because I only get to visit Disney every 2 years or so. Love the Podcast, I live vicariously through you!

So seriously, when are we going to have out Disers Lurker Meet?? :) this is our chance to break out of our shell!! :yay: perhaps a Lurker Cruise? :rotfl2:

To all of the ECV and wheelchair users....

Rest assured that this is not something that we will ever stop talking about.

I think most folks that dont live with this on a daily basis are unaware of the small minority of people that make this so uncomfortable.

I think that the more people that are made aware of this....the more we will have people who will turn to these vocal idiots and ask "do you even hear the crap coming out of your mouth?"

The vast majority of folks are friendly, understanding and accommodating.

As I said.....we wont stop addressing this issue.

Hummm, I like that. I will say something if I hear someone making comments. I watched this show about a lady named Ruby who weighed about 400 pounds and was trying to lose weight. She was so sweet and pretty, and people would say outloud, did you see that fat lady, and things like that. My heart broke for her. I have a daughter with a learning disability and I learned to have great patience with people who are slow, like giving change or taking an order. I know when my daughter is stressed, her brain just shuts down and she can't think. The older I get, the wiser I get, thank God.

Fantastic!

I am there!!! :cool1:

This is my first post, but yes I am a lurker. These boards are very overwhelming to me, but they are great! I also LOVE the podcast. I listen to podcast on my hour commute to and from work and it keeps me entertained in the early morning!
Listening to you all talk about the cruise makes me wish I was going, but like some others I'm a :teacher: and can not get off from work!

Keep up the great work guys!

Long time lurker here, I have been on these boards for about 3 years and just recently signed on and found the podcast. I don't post very often but I'm here now and who knows. I listen on the way to work also and I have an hour commute to work. I have not listened to the radio in my car in about a month, just got through 2006 and half of 2008 in the archives. Interesting how many of Kevin's "rumors" have come true.

Keep up the good work Podcast team.:thumbsup2

I'm new to this but Hi everyone, i've been a longtime listener to the podcast & am now actually on the boards. Here's hoping no one bite's.

Luke :)

Hi, I too am mainly a lurker. I really like the "tone" and friendship here. I started listening to the podcasts a couple of months ago and I love them. I feel like I know you all there, even though I haven't yet figured all the screen names that go with you all. :) Thanks so much for the great job, keep it up!

I'm a lurker. You all seem so friendly that I wish I was going on the cruise with you.

I'm mostly a lurker too. I love the Podcast and have been listening avidly for a couple of years now. It truly brightens my week.

Thanks for all you do.

Became a member in 2003 but have been lurking on the boards since 2000!

I think this is definately the most friendly of the boards to join in on.
No one bites, only the occasional nibble, and Bawb got most of those.
I was a long time lurker too... I only jumped in if my opinion wasn't represented. I still don't. But you don't have to have a high post count to belong here.
The only requirements I have noticed are a love of Disney, a sense of humor, a tolerance for other people's opinions and an appreciation of friendship.
So come on in, the cistern is fine.

I am a faithful posdcast listner and longtime lurker. Love the podcast, love the boards. Thanks for all you do.
