Yes, meteorologist listen to the DIS Podcast. Love the show keep them coming.

One correction for your last show.

Katrina was an extraordinarily powerful and deadly hurricane in Aug 2005. After reaching Category 5 intensity over the central Gulf of Mexico, Katrina weakened to Category 3 before making landfall on the northern Gulf coast.

Many people assume that Katrina was a Category 5 when it made landfall, but it had weakened. So imagine the damage and misery if it hadn't weakened.

Really? I didn't know that or at least I didn't remember that. Major pixies that Gustav is only a Cat. 1 and doesn't linger.

Well, Gustav seems to be bringing his sister along for the ride... we now have Hanna out there too. Thankfully, Katrina did weaken to a Cat 3, I don't think there would be one thing left standing in New Orleans had it not.

But, wasn't most of the damage from Katrina due to the levees breaking from all the rain, basically filling up New Orleans like a bathtub, not high hurricane winds? :confused3

Yes, that's the gist of it, that and the storm surge. The winds were awful at Cat 3, but imagine if it had roared ashore at Category 5 with winds in excess of 155 mph.

I worked in the city of New Orleans before Katrina and still do. The
destruction was next to unbelievable, the city is still recovering. TV
did not convey the extent of the damage. You had to see it in person
to understand the damage. Hopefully, Gustav will not hit the city like
Katrina did.
