Pet Tax

I am surprised there are no other posts on this...in CT today there was a huge prank played. When I woke up there was a segment on the radio regarding the new "pet tax" that would be part of the new health bill. It was supposedly $100 per pet and it went up depending on the weight.

My dad called me about something and mentioned it, everyone at work was talking about it, a vet was on the radio saying how it was going to be a huge problem for the elderly who can't afford to pay it but need their pets for companions....

Anyway, my friend texts me about 5 o'clock and says the whole thing is a prank! I quickly googled it on my phone because I wasn't near a computer and saw that it was indeed a prank apparently a radio station started it and even Governor Rell was in on it!!

Any other Connecticutians want to weigh in?

People believed that? On 4/1? It took till 5pm to realize it was fake? wow. A friend posted it on Facebook. Never believed it for a second.

I guess I am gullible then...I didn't see any reason not to believe it. I heard it everywhere today.

I guess maybe I just didn't see the funny part of it

It was on the radio in Mass today too on Karson and Kennedy Mix 104.1 They had some representative in on it. A lot of people fell for it..a LOT.

The prank was that it is to help fund the new health care bill.

I think people believed it because well, unfortunately, lots of people wouldn't put it past them! (especially in massachusetts!)

I think it was a great joke. Lots of liberals got all upset over it. People really need to just lighten up.

They were saying go to www.pettaxma.com

I got home from driving my kids to school. Was fuming over it! Went to the website and there was a big "April Fools" there.

I think people started figuring out it was a joke when they said something about weighing your gold fish...

Well, do you have a dog? or cat? Can you even IMAGINE being intruded on by the government so abrasively as to have to weigh your pet and pay a tax based on the weight?? LOL What if it's a St. Bernard?

I know it was all a joke..but those that believed it, some thought they may have to pay upwards of $200-$500 based on how many pets they had or how much they weighed. Then they said something about weighing your goldfish. Then, some people probably started thinking "well, what if they impound all those animals if the taxes don't get paid?" What would happen to the poor animals??? Animal lovers no doubt were having a hissy over that too!

Golly, I'm tired! LOL

Enough to upset anyone if they believed it or if it were actually true.

The scary thing is, I have a feeling more crazy taxes are just around the corner.

Guess we'll find out!

Oh yes! We have three dogs and a foster dog! I kept worrying about the rescue that I work with wondering whether or not they would have to pay for their foster dogs/dogs in transition!

They did the same thing in Chicago, but they kept mentioning a .com website to refer to. That's what tipped me off since we should have been referred to a .gov website. I have to admit though, I was pretty taken back when they said it would even apply to hamsters and goldfish...
