Pet sitting services

I am planning on going to Disney at the end of July beginning of August. Has anyone any experiences of using pet sitting services? I can't use my aunt as she is in her 80's and having lost my mother I need to use some sort of pet sitting service as Lucy is 13 and the cats are 7 years old and none have ever been in kennels or a cattery.

i have never used them myself. I am lucky that my family will usually look after my 2 dogs, but my MIL always uses 'home from home'. they take your pets into their home and treat them as you would.

She has always said good things about them.

she is in London but i think there are companies like this covering most areas.

I've never used a pet-sitting service as I am lucky enough to have found wonderful kennels even though it's a round-trip of 50 miles! How about asking at your vet? There are quite a few adverts on the notice board for pet-sitting at my vet and if I was interested in them I'd be asking one of the nurses if they'd had any feedback.

My mum uses a pet sitter and has always been happy with the service. She got a recommendation from her vet so she knew they would be good.

I have used 2 and both I would not use again. My house was disgusting when I came back the first time.I did not expect them to clean my house but I did expect them to clean the cat litter off the floorIt took me 2 hours when I got back to clean dried vomit up etc.The other was really again the mess they left and the fact my cat became ill and they phoned me on my wedding day to say she had died knowing full well it was my wedding day.They then told me the cat hadnt been well for a few days yet had not taken her to the vets.She was my baby siamese.
I have 6 cats(4 rescues) a rabbit and a jack russell and it is expensive to keep up their vaccines etc but I always account for their boarding fees factored into our holiday buget.
Luckily my friends house sitted this time and my mom is doing it this time.
I would definatley ask your vet as some vetinary nurses offer this service .I got mine off the internet,local companies and would never do it again.I want piece of mind when I go away knowing they are safe
.The cattery I used charged £11 a day for 2 cats sharing and it was pure luxury for them.(like the GF at disney).
I am sure there are good pet sitters out there but perhaps they couldnt cope with my large zoo but I would have them rather said they could not do it.

For our dog when we're at work we actually use a "Care at home" type company rather than pet sitting. The service is much better IMO. Try looking into it in your area?

I'd stick the cats in a cattery - best place for them if you're away for a long time.

I would never leave mine with anyone other than close family - not because of the cats, but because I'd be too worried about doors to my house being locked etc.

Our 12 year old westie went into Kennels for the 1st time last year (aged 11!) as family circumstances changed and my brother could no longer have him for us. I was very anxious as he is diabetic and needs insuling injections twice a day and he can be a bit grumpy (well, he is getting on a bit) but The Grove were fantastic!

They advertise as 'luxury boarding kennels' and they are certainly that - bedroom, playroom and underfloor heating! Whilst not cheap i wouldn't leave Barney anywhere else now. He'll be off there in October for his holiday
