What are your pet's personality quirks? For instance, our dogs are not allowed to get on the couch (basically because they chewed the old one up.) But the Lab/Weimeraner mix will get up there and will look at me like he has no idea what I'm talking about when I tell him to get down but the second I get near him and pull his collar to get him down or get behind him and actually push him off, he will bark at me. He doesn't bite but he acts like he's going to. The first time, it scared me because I thought he was going to bite but I'm used to it now. The Lab/Pit Bull mix will not allow his brother to get any attention if he's around.....he will literally push him out of the way (even though the Lab/Pitt Bull mix weighs about 30 pounds less.) He can also be a bully about their food dishes. And the Lab/Weimeraner never does a thing about it even though he would easily win if the two of them ever actually got into a fight. Instead, he comes crying to me. The Lab/Pitt mix (Hurley) will also bury himself under the covers on my bed no matter how hot it happens to be. The Lab/Weimeraner mix (Kodiak) will sit and look at you and "talk" to you for as long as ten minutes at a time.

My golden will sort her toys. I ended up having to buy two plastic tubs because she was irritated with me always putting the soft, stuffed animal type toys in with the hard plastic squeaky toys. She'll also look all over the house for a particular toy--and you can almost see a light go on over her head when she remembers that it's in the basement and she runs down to get it and comes right back up very proud of herself. :confused3

She's the sweetest and definitely the weirdest dog I've ever had.

OP--have you tried making the dog stop being aggressive toward you by barking/trying to bite? That wouldn't fly at my house.

Because he doesn't actually bite, I haven't done anything about it except tell him to stop. He actually listens to me better than he does to my roommate who has owned him for 8 years (not as well as the Lab/Pitt Bull mix who will do anything I want him to and has in the past couple of weeks actually been given to me but better than he does to my roommate.)

We have a German Shepherd who, at 8 years old, is still afraid of the stairs. But he likes to go down into the basement. Then he whines and whines, and barks and whimpers because he's afraid to come back up. Sometimes he'll come right up if we call him (guess he needs an invitation? :confused3) and sometimes it goes on and on and on and on, while he makes attempt after attempt, until he finally comes barreling up. When we see a little dog on TV managing stairs, we tease our dog for being a wus. :)

He WORSHIPS my DH. Tolerates the rest of us, especially for what we can do for him (like give him treats and tummy rubs). Sometimes if DH is in one room and I'm in another, Simon will come into the room I'm in and just stare at me...I think he's just making sure I'm staying put.

If DH and I speak to each other, Simon will run and get a toy for DH...guess he thinks toys are better than me. :)

Simon LOVES cigars...it means "the men" (he and DH) are going to hang out together in the garage and bond. When DH opens the humidor, Simon goes nuts, running to the garage door and back until DH catches up.

My dog counts us. She needs to know where we all are at all times. She will even go into the bathroom if you're in the shower and sit there and watch you shower until you are done. Because the shower is the root of all evil, and she doesn't understand how any of us would willingly take a bath when she hates them, so she needs to make sure we're OK.

My dog will not sleep past 8am. She insists that I get up by 8am which really drives me crazy since this doesn't allow me to sleep in on the weekends.

Ours doesn't understand "weekends" either. Since we are usually up before 6 am weekdays, on Saturday when we try to sleep in he goes downstairs and gets his leash and brings it to me in bed. I hear the metal snap on the leash clunk-clunk-clunk on every step.

My dogs do some weird things. My 7 year old beagle hates when people touch me so if she is laying next to me and someone like taps me or gives me a high five she tries to bite them. She also likes to sleep until around 3 in the afternoon if people will let her. My 4 year old beagle loves to sit in chairs. The second anyone gets out of one of the two chairs in the living room she jumps right up there and then we have to kick her out when we want to sit down again. She also will jump up on us and push her forehead against our forehead almost like she is saying she loves us. Lastly she is just so cute when we are eating or doing something and we tell her to go away and she will just sit there and give those puppy dog eyes and stare at you until you give in and let her do whatever she wants. My dogs are both crazy.

Our 8 year old shih tzu watches t.v., sleeps on a pillow & will move her toys from one basket to another when asked.
She also hangs her head upside down from her bed to watch t.v.
She won't walk in the sand....

I'm amazed at how many things she knows by name...also she doesn't attack her food like most dogs. When you put the food down sometimes she just can't be bothered, same with her treats, she'll take them but save them for later.

Our boxer mix will only drink spring water, and he will only drink from his water bowl if my DH is holding it for him. He also has an obsession with feet and would rather be petted with feet than hands. If given the choice between a treat and a "foot pet," he'll take the petting anytime. He's a quirky dog, but we love him to death!

My Bouvier, Dexter, is deathly afraid of our laminate floors. I've had to lay long rugs down so the poor guy can walk around the house. He acts like he is walking on ice and freaks out with legs flailing if he ever finds himself on the floor, poor guy, I feel really bad for him. I'm not sure what happened to him, we rescued him and he was like that when we got him.

My Fox Terrier, Chopper, is not a morning dog. He sleeps with DS14 and gets up with him to go out for a pee, but will then go back to bed (Ds's bed) and sleep in until about 10 or so. He also sleeps under the covers. chopper is also not allowed on the couch anymore since the day Ds and friends got him all riled up and he peed on my brand new couch. He's very lucky he is cute, or I might only have one dog today after that incident :rolleyes1

That's funny. OCD! My toy poodle, Chelsea, she passed two years ago, used to have false pregnancies. She would gather up stuffed animals, no matter what size and put them all together and stay with them. When she finally had a puppy, she was clueless. She didn't know what to do. The puppy was early, didn't do well on formula and lived only a few days. It was only one puppy.

My male Crested, when stressed, snaps at the air like he's trying to catch a fly. It's rather embarrassing waiting at the vet's office because he knows where he is and is stressed so he snaps away like crazy the entire time we wait.

My Zoey has the "Berner Bump" thing going big time. She will walk directly in front of me, causing us to bump into each other. She won't get out of the way, it's like she likes to have any contact, even if it's me falling on top of her. She sidles up next to me and leans against me. I think this is a common thing for this breed, although I have no idea why it has evolved.

Our dearly departed Lab, Opie, was afraid of hats and anything large held up in the air. Once DH picked up a small area rug, and Opie wouldn't stop barking at it. He could also say "ri ruv ru", just like Astro.

Dawn, your Chelsea reminded me of a miniature poodle I once met. Her name was Dana, she belonged to the nutty mother of a nutty woman I used to work with. Dana was Mom's baby, and Dana had a baby of her own, a bedroom slipper. If you asked Dana to get her baby, she would go get the slipper. She tried to nurse it at times, and would bite anyone who tried to take it. I put my foot towards it once, and she jumped on me and barked like crazy. One time a visitor was teasing Dana, and he put the baby in his pocket, then forgot and took it home. He called Mom and said, OMG, I've got Dana's baby!" Of course, he had to bring it back.

If our kids have a pair of shoes, a book, a game, or any object on the floor, our dog will always use that object as a pillow. Sometimes she'll plop down right on top of a gym bag, which can't be comfortable, and stay there.

She's a whiner, too. She doesn't bark much but she can whine like crazy when the mood strikes.

I thought of another one. Our friend and neighbor in Montana had a crazy cat. If you were sitting perfectly still in a chair with you hand on the arm, it would run up out of nowhere, attack, bite, scratch you hand or foot as fast as it could, then run off. It was NOT playing, it would bite if she got the chance. If this wasn't so bizarrely amusing it would make a person mad. But it was very funny. The cat's name was "Kitty Vicious".

I have 2 quirky cats. One steals mittens (other things, too - but those are her favorites) and the other loves water - will dip her paw right in the bathtub.

We had a cat named Zack who was super skinny...but he was always the first one to hit the food dishes after they were filled. He ate all the time but was naturally very thin and wiry. I used to call him our bulemi-cat, and said that one of these days we'd walk in unannounced and we'd catch him purging. :rotfl:

Then there's Simba. He acts all tough and he's the leader if the kitty tribe (we have 3, used to be 4)...but whenever he hears someone's voice in our house that is not me, DH or DS, Simba runs and hides in the basement for hours. Lion King my butt.

And my dog Charlie was a Maltese with a nervous bladder. When my XH used to come from work Charlie would stand on his hind legs to greet him, and would tinkle all over XH's pants (smart dog). :rolleyes1

Our lovely cat Pearl (she was adopted as an adult...she's anywhere between 8 and 9 years old) has taken to begging in the last 6 months. She puts one paw up in the air, whines and gives puppy dog eyes (come on, it's funny on a cat):rotfl:. If that doesn't work she will bat me with said paw to make sure I noticed....and only me...she's a whack a doodle. She talks to me and I talk back, my girls find it hilarious that I know what she is saying.

Pearl also sleeps on anything, espescially if it's mine...today I realized as I put my hat on that it must have gotten on the floor at some point because it was COVERED in kitty hair. :rotfl:

Dude, the ferret, has a foot fetish and seems to have to bite mine first thing in the morning or his day hasn't started properly. He will also grab fingers and hold them like a baby holding their bottle. Pearl often looks at me like "Can we let the boy outside and not find him?" and I tell her "Sorry girl you are the one who told us he was outside."

I forgot...Kody likes to chew on his back feet. He looks like a contortionist when he does it.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with quirky pets.
