Pet Personality Quirks

Hershey is probably my 'quirkiest' kitty!

He seems to think he's a dog...he's the most loyal, and comes running to me when I walk in the door (actually, Cheeto does that too!), he comes when you whistle for him, he plays fetch with his little blue mouse, he even sits on request! He also does that thing where he'll lay next to you, and push his head under your hand to be pet. Whenever I ignore him, he'll reach out with his paw and touch my face, like he's showing me "look, pet me, like this!"

Cheeto is just odd...he does the strangest things...he's obsessed with the washer, and when it's on, he sits and stares at it and meows like he's talking to it. He also loves high surfaces and spends most of his time on top of the kitchen cabinets or the top of our 7 foot entertainment center.

DH and I are always saying that we are SO glad we got really quirky cats because they fit us!

our Golden, Seamus, is a velcro golden....hates to leave my side (he is next to me right now!). He is also an attention monger and pushes our coon hound, Lilly, out of the way if she is getting ANY attention. She gets him back by stealing all his toys and putting them in HER crate, and she won't let him in to get them! She is also good about stealthy sneaking onto the couch and looking pathetic....she is SO spoiled!

Seamus has a basket for his toys and takes them out and makes a circle of toys at night- then lays in the middle of them (that is, if he isn't pushing us off the bed). Strange behavior and I have no idea why!

We also have NO idea what our DD21 did to him, but if you make a raspberry sound he runs to me and tries to either get in my lap or hide! If I am not around he runs into his crate or under the kitchen table. He is absolutely terrified of that sound (which is wonderful if he is in trouble....one thwwwwwp and he runs!).

Both dogs have mastered the 'guilty' look....if something has been gotten into and we come home we can immediately tell which dog (or both) has been the guilty party- they give themselves away!

One of the cats loves the dogs...spend more time snuggled with them than the other cats. Because the dogs "love' him back, he has a rather wet or crusty coat- from all the licking. He just lays on the floor stretched out while the dogs slobber all over him--it's like he LIKES it! I think the cat may be 1/2 dog! The dogs try that maneuver on any of the other cats and they are likely to lose an eye!

We also have two parakeets that like to "join' any conversation. They are in a hanging cage in the dining room (think cats!).....and love to "scream" their bird calls whenever we have a group of people at the table who are talking. We have to cover them.

And then there is our horse, Reverend Jim, who is addicted to peppermints. He bites into one and chews it and his lips curl and his tail goes up in the air....probably the most excitement he gets all day!

It is quite the rowdy house- 4 kids, 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 parakeets, and one DH.....more than enough! Yes, the vacuum cleaner is my best friend....

When Rockman was an only kitten, he'd badger us unmercifully at mealtime, even if I fed him at the same time. He'd whine, scream, jump on our shoulders, laps. Finally one night I got fed up and set him a place. Problem solved:

This went on for a few months until we adopted his great-grandma and he learned eating from a dish on the floor was ok. :rotfl:

They both have other quirks: Rocko demands an immaculate litterbox & will paw your arm & cry if he thinks it's not to his standards. Millie (a retired breeder) would howl & throw ONLY the little leopard spotted catnip mice in the air - we wondered if she thought they were her babies? She's fine with generic ones, just gets wound up over the leopard mice.

Millie's also taught DH a great trick: he always leaves a bucket-type hat on the room divider near the door when he goes outside. He says "Gryffindor!", she jumps up there and walks into the (Sorting) hat! WILL NOT DO IT FOR ME no matter how I coax - only him.
