Pet peeves I saw today at Magic Kingdom

It's for a safety reason. It's not safe for people to stay in the wheelchairs/ECVs. If people stay in them, it's usually because they can't transfer to a seat. If they can, then they really are supposed to transfer to another seat.

That is not true. I work in public transportation and the wheelchair locations are the only ones that are required to have seat belts and they should be used. If a person has a mobility problem serious enough to require a wheelchair they should not leave it. In the event of an emergency the last thing you want to have to do is get that person back in the wheelchair to get them off the, in this case, bus. When you consider the extra effort the driver has to expel to board the chair it is sometimes pretty disheartening to see the person that was so carefully boarded get up and walk to a seat.
The wheelchair takes up a minimum of 3 seats to begin with and if the person gets up and sits in a regular seat he or she have just taken away 4 seats that would otherwise be available to others. Having a handicap (or to be PC, challenged) does not mean that one no longer needs to show courtesy to others.

I don't post very often, but I check out the boards a lot. I was waiting for someone to bring up the ECVs. I am glad that it took reading 9 pages until I saw it though.... My husband has needed to use an ECV our last 3 trips to WDW. I'm not happy about it and he's not happy about it - but he wouldn't be able to do it otherwise. I pretty much had my fill of the nasty comments and rude remarks this last trip.

Please understand - we just try to follow the directions of the bus drivers and any other CMs. If they tell him to sit in a seat, he sits in a seat. If they tell him to load onto the next bus, we do. You may only have to deal with wheelchairs and ECVs while you are on vacation - this is 24-7-365 for us and many others. I'm sure most of the people who are annoyed would not want to switch lives with us. And they certainly would not want to share our medical bills. I'm thankful that ECVs are readily available so that my DH can go to WDW!

And just to vent.....to the woman on the bus with us from Epcot to Pop Century on 2/8....people do not only use ECVs because they are too lazy to walk. I'm just sorry that my goddaughters had to hear you ripping apart everyone who uses an ECV or wheelchair. I hope that your children do not grow up copying that attitude, and that no one in your family ever has need of one.

I really hate to join in this conversation, but #1 on the OP is a strong pet peeve of mine. These are the same people that don't like the person that they are driving behind, so they pull in front of you to go the exact same speed they were going before. I promise!

...A warning to those who "stop in the middle of the aisle"...

We were at US and went in to see the Terminator show. We're the second group to go down this aisle. The 2 people in front of us stop exactly in the middle of the row. DH refuses to go around them. He tells them to get up and go to the end of the row.

They reply back in some foreign language and make gestures like they don't understand. By this time, the line is stacking up behind us and some others have gotten in on the act telling these 2 to go to the end of the row. Like the man behind us said, "If you don't want to sit at the end, don't push everyone else out of the way to be first!!!" (these people were really pushing in the pre show area and just had to get right by the doors)

Well, the girl finally makes the guy get up. He resists her at first and they have a small argument. She goes to hit him with her water bottle and busts his lip!! I mean really gets it...it was bleeding all over the place.

It's not really funny, but then again it is. We usually resort to stepping on people's toes when they insist on sitting in the middle, but I have to admit...the busted lip was much better!!!!

We don't usually try to get there at park opening, but we did one day. So we were in the crowd moving toward one of the rides. Twice there were men behind us who said loudly, "Excuse me! Excuse me!" so we moved as far as we could to let them through, thinking they must be CM's. Both times they were obviously just visitors the same as we were, they just discovered a way to get through the crowds quickly.

Another aggravating thing was when we were in line, in the crowd, to see the Lion King show. There was a family who ducked under the rope that ran alongside the crowd and sped past the crowd toward the front. This just wasn't right.

A parent completely ignoring their child so they can have normal day to day conversations with a friend or significant other (be it husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend). If technology allows you to spend time with your family that you may not otherwise been able to do - that's great. If it is used to escape/avoid opportunities with your family that is not great. It's a fine line and sometimes hard to tell which is occurring, but I believe the OP objects to the latter scenario, jmho.

We were at Crystal Palace for the Pooh character dinner and for the entire dinner we were sitting next to a couple with 2 children and both of them talked on their phones the entire time ignoring each other and their children.

We were leaving MK in the middle of the day and getting a hand stamp along with a crowd of folks, when a man came barrelling into the group dragging his children, wanting their hands stamped. He cut the line shouting "We got KIDS here! Excuse me! We got KIDS!". Umm, hi, you freak. LOTS of us have children. Even if we didn't, no cuts, man.


All the talk about the bus reminded me of something sweet. We were on a late bus one night and a mom got on with one of those giant strollers, folded up but very unwieldy. She had a 3 year old with her. I heard screaming babies close to the front of the bus and realized her poor husband was sitting in a seat holding their TWIN BABIES in both arms. The poor woman was stressed out listening to her babies cry plus wrangling that stroller and the 3 year old. I couldn't get to the dad, but I saw the lady sitting next to him offer to hold one of the babies, and he gratefully let her. It was nice. See? People can be nice.

Ok here's my take on the cell phone issue. We do bring them to Disney, we put them on vibrate. We only use them in the parks to locate others in our party. We tend to split up and it is a great way to stay in contact. Nice short and sweet conversation.

Now with that being said...I don't like the people who don't turn off their ringers. You are in the middle of a show or ride and here them go off. Also in 2003 we went with my sister and her family. Both my sister and her husband were on their cell phones with clients. Now IMO you need to choose what is more important. I know that there are times for emergencies that you need to talk to work. I agree with those people's circumstances. I agree with having loved one that are sick. But in my sister's instance it was something that could have waited until later that night. Not only were they both on the phone, we were left to entertain their kids(ours were back home, adult vacation for us). And I guess the other thing that really ticked me off was that we paid for their park tickets and we were left standing around listening while they were on their phones most of the time or hear about what went on with the conversation. Either way, they didn't take into consideration that they were on vacation with us. Another thing...their kids were pissed too!!! We learned not to do that again. I don't mind when I see someone on the phone, you don't know what's going on. I do mind when it takes away from my time.

how about when everyone is waiting for the doors to open to one of the theaters and the CM TELLS you the doors are going to be opeing OUTWARD! and everyone still stands there like -god forbid- they may not be the first ones to RUSH in!!

DH and i always sit back and try to be the last ones in so we are not stampeded by the crowds which leads me to another mentioned pet peeve...

moving all the way down the aisle. when we are the last ones in-- we can choose our seats without feeling like we HAVE TO move down becasue we are the last ones.

What about people who let their kids run screaming down the hallways of resorts in the early morning or late at night? Or really anytime I guess. RUDE. I teach my son to step quietly and whisper so as not to disturb people and sometimes he reminds us too!

YES!!!!!! I hate this, at Disney or ANY hotel/motel! That and slamming the door! We have experienced this both in inexpensive, road-side motels and high-dollar, nice hotels and cruises. And also people above you stopming around like elephants or running across the floor. What is WITH people?!?

OOOO- that may have been my fault! it was not in the early morning or late at night- but my 4yr old disney niece did go YELLING- scremaing at the top of her lungs down the hall of the ASmo in december just because i told her "NO"

They probably came back telling everyone how character meals were "boring and overrated." Well of course they are if you don't participate.

Sad they paid all that money and went all that way just to yap on the phone. Shoot. I can yap on the phone here. I don't need to go all the way to WDW just to do so.

How about when you're in a pre-show area for an attraction (Test Track for example) and they tell the crowd to fill in "ALL" available space and nobody moves. Then, when I move up to take a huge space left close to the exit door I get dirty looks as if I'm cutting line.

Wow a few things that annoy me!

1) yes I give up my seat to the elderly or anyone older than I am. But I'm not going to give it up to some kid who rode around in a stroller all day long while I walked on my own two legs OR to some kid who thought he was too big for a stroller and really needed one...sorry. People with babies they get my seat, pregnant women they're gonna get my seat, but no kids!

2) I have the right to use my cell phone when I so choose. I talk at a normal decibal so it would be as if I"m talking to a friend standing next to me. If you can handle the sight of me on my cell phone, look away. I know my dad has to bring his for work with him or he can't take a vacation. He has one of those stupid business jobs where his clients and coworkers need to be able to get a hold of him at all times. It is what it is, he'd rather be there with the cell, then back at home.

3) Holding a table is offensive now? There are no signs or rules against having a family member look for a table when another one is on the food line. It's actually common sense.

Wow I think you just need to relax and have a good time instead of stessing about the small stuff! I am now prepared for the rotten tomato throwing that will ensue...

I noticed more people smoking at MGM on Sunday 2-19 than anywhere else in WDW! It seemed everywhere we walked we were behind cigarette smoke. We were behind some at EPCOT on monday but not as much as MGM. None earlier in the week though.

I'm a smoker, and that bothers me too. It is just rude. If I am going to have a bad habit, I am at least aware that others around me have chosen NOT to have a bad habit, even though I have.

Just a tad off subject. I like to jog, at one of our local parks we have a jogging/walking track around a lake that is roughly a mile long. I was jogging one day last summer, and there was a group of ladies walking on the jogging path smoking!! I thought I was going to choke to death when I came up behind them (of course they were also blocking my way so I had to linger back there for a bit uggg). I hate to imagine how the non-smoking joggers must have felt.

Peeve 1 - sorry but I smoke. If I am outside, I have the right to smoke as much as you have the right not to. Whatever you may think about cigarettes and/or smoking, I really don't care so please don't preach to me. Last time I checked, it's still MY choice.

If you are that sensitive to smoke, (asthma/allergies), then maybe you should be the one to stay home. Why am I suppose to stop my activites because you are around? I paid the same price as you to get in to WDW. If you want to make the park non-smoking, express you concerns to WDW management.

Peeve 2 - all the whining on this thread about heelies, strollers, giving up a seat on the bus. It's always me, me, me. That's the problem with this instant gratification society we now live in. It's always about the me first, everyone else second.

Oh, my trip is ruined because a kid screamed down the hall or the door slammed and now I can' sleep.

No one would give me a seat on the bus, how rude.

I'm not giving up my sit too a kid. He choose to walk.

Man, I hate this place, that kid almost ran into me with those darns heelies, next time I'm going to knock him down. That will teach him I mean business. Doesn't he know he may ruin my trip if its not perfect.

That lady/kid/gandma/dad just hit me with there stroller. That's it, they should be banned from WDW along with ECV's. And can't they get their OWN bus so we don't have to wait 7.5 mins for them to be loaded. Man, now my trip was ruined.

I think I'll knock that cigarette out of her hand and run. That will teach them.

Here are some of mine:

1. Conventioners who feel the need to smoke cigars ( ) everywhere in the parks and at the resort!

We were there 2 weeks ago at the Boardwalk and I guess some type on business convention or meeting was going on that whole week. Everywhere I went, people in suits were walking around the parks smoking cigars. I can tolerate cigarettes, but the smell of cigars makes me sick.

2. Why do cheerleaders feel the need to practice thier routines in the parks?

There was a cheer/dance competition that weekend we were down there. I'm fine with that, I don't care if they are there and all, but why do they have to practice thier routines and cheers during parades and waiting for shows? I was going crazy by the end of the trip.
