Pet friendly????

On a magical landform website, there is an article saying WDW guests can now share their vacation experience - well their accommodations - with their pets. It goes on to say Disney is "partnering with Best Friends Resort" for this experience, but it then says they will use the existing boarding/kennel facilities, so it sounds like they are simply ramping up the kennel facilities rather than making a resort pet-friendly. Anyone know the real scoop on this?

I wish WDW would jump on board with other hotels/resorts and allow pets to stay in the rooms with you. Universal resorts all pets as do other hotels/resorts. Universal is looking more and more intriguing (sp?) because they allow this for my next trip.

I agree. In fact, although I've never seen myself as an RV type person, I've been giving it some serious thought lately just because the idea of traveling with my dogs is so appealing.

i have been trying to figure out to do w/ 1 of my dogs during out stay in sept... my older dog my parents will take but there isn't anyone who will take my 11/2 year old st bernard,,lol. all say he is to much dog for them,,lol.

o, he is a very big boy,, i am 5'3 and his back is level w/ my waist but for the most part he is a good dog. he is still a puppy,, a very big puppy

he doesn't drool much yet just after drinking and when he gets excited.

i don't want to kennel him. i don't know what to do

I wish they were pet friendly we always take at least one of our dogs in our vacations (unless we are traveling international) and this time we have to leave them home .

I thought the report was saying they were simply upgrading the kennel facilities, though I had so hoped Disney was finally going to start allowing fur-children in resorts. I love DVC, but I hate leaving my little girl.

I'll be the lone dissenter. I hate the thought of animals in the resorts. I have animals...3 cats and an 80 lb golden retriever. I love them to pieces. But I'm not taking them to WDW with me. And I certainly don't want to have to listen to someone else's pet whining or barking in the room/villa next to me. I have enough of that at home during the summer months.
I don't mean to sound uncaring or harsh, but...many people have allergies, or are afraid of animals. The resorts need to stay pet-free. I know this isn't going to be a popular stand but it is what it is.

ITA! I love my pet but my pet doesn't need to travel to WDW. She wouldn't be comfortable and I wouldn't be comfortable with her there.

Agreed. My dog is my baby. My niece housesits every time we go to WDW. As much as I want her with me, she would howl (she's a beagle) and cry when we weren't in the room and probably scratch up the door frame pretty good. Can we say "Pay for the damage please?"

Not only that, but we're not in our rooms very much. How much time would I *really* be with her? She's much better at home where she is familiar with a family member she loves. I miss her something terrible, and I do call home every day and talk to her. And it's tough to leave Disney but knowing I get to see my baby I haven't seen in a week makes me anxious to go home!

We leave our furry friend in the caring hands of my mother. He's spoiled rotten when we return and terrible offended we left him alone.
He doesn't look at us for weeks only with his royal behind but take him to WDW? No way.

It's also cruel to leave you pet inside the hotel room all day while you go out and play...

I wish they would have at least one pet friendly hotel inside Disney! When we came in May, we had to leave our dog at home with my sister and we all missed her so much. We are going back to Disney in October of 2010 but are renting a pet friendly house this time so we can bring her along -- I hate staying off-site but Disney doesn't give us much of a choice and I refuse to put her in a kennel! I am also going to look into staying at Universal one time since they also allow pets to stay in their hotels!

I love my dog with all my heart. She is my baby. I take her everywhere possible. But I don't see any need for her to come to Disney with us. Why should she sit in a room all day long by herself possibly disturbing other hotel guests while we are off at the parks?

Unless you plan on spending a decent amount of time in your room (or rental house), I don't see how the dog would be comfortable in a tiny room for hours on end.

I'm also a dissenter. I would hate to stay in a hotel that allows pets. My family, including DH and myself, are terribly allergic to dogs and cats - so much so that my throat closes up immediately - I always triple check that no pets are allowed in the rooms we stay in. Now, I'm not a pet hater. I really do love the critters - they just don't love me back. I agree that pets are better off at home when travelling to Disney though.

Another dissenter here. I would never stay in a hotel that allows pets. The smell would about make me gag. And I'm sorry to say but I would be able to tell if a dog had stayed in our room. I can tell from many of my friends' homes, although most of them don't smell it. I think owners just become immune to the smell and don't notice it.

We have two cats, and although I don't think my home smells like "cat", it may to a visiting guest.

Have to totally agree with you here. I own 5 dogs and though I hate leaving them when I go on vacation, taking them to WDW is not in the cards. As someone who works in the animal field, you can totally see how people would bring their pets to the resorts, it would either get lost or stolen or get out during housekeeping (not to mention..how many dogs would let the housekeepers in while they're stressed out, sitting in a hotel room by themselves). Next you'd see those with the tiny, purse-sized dogs taking them into the parks and tragedy would eventually strike as little "Fluffy" dies of a heart attack because her dippy 16 year old owner thought it would be fun and cool to take her on Mission Space or something similar. You KNOW this would eventually happen. Also, with the amount of children running around in close proximity to swimming pools, someone..you know it will happen..will not pick up after their dog and it would just become a mess. You may not do something like what I stated above...but you know darn well someone will.

Pets belong at home with someone looking out for their best interests.

Oh, dear God...I hadn't even thought about housekeeping!!! I can just imagine the situation if a housekeeper was terrified of animals, had an allergy or simply had no idea what to do with a dog in the room. That dog could bolt, and never be found again.
And the 'excrement' issue as well.....I can just imagine how people would be about picking up after their dog. They don't do it so well in my neighborhood.

I understand the whole 'I love my pet', I truly do. But, if you really love your pet, leave him/her at home with someone who can care for them. There are lots of licensed/bonded dog sitters who will come to your house to feed, water, exercise and potty your dog. So much better than dragging them all the way to Florida to leave them all alone in a room all day.

My family considers itself big animal lovers. My sister calls me her furry babie's Aunt and my mom call her's my little brother and sister. My parents drove twice from Texas to NOLA to get their babies from a rescue group my sister did volunteer work for in law school.

However I would never stay at a resort that allowed pets. I would be very upset if someone left their furry baby in the room while they stayed out late, and that fury baby kept me up barking. How could housekeeping get in with pets in the room? Also, if your away, your furry baby has an accident, and housekeeping comes, it is housekeeping's responsibility to clean up that mess? I think it's cool that Disney has the kennels, but I do not want to see their resort to become pet friendly. However, if they had a dvc type resort that had a Goofy/Pluto theme that was pet friendly. That way if you stay there you know going into it there will be pets all around you.

I just honestly don't see why when some people speak of a kennel it's almost like they are talking about sending their pet to prison. My mom's dogs love going to the kennel (well they call it a pet resort, but it's really a kennel) she takes them to, and they love her dog especially her dog Bosco. Everyone loves Bosco P. Coletrain though, he's just too lovable. He's half golden lab, half basset hound we were told.
