Perspective on purchasing more points at Vero Beach

A little background: We currently own 76 points at BWV, which were direct purchased as an add-on. Originally we had a base 210 points, but sold those about 15 years ago. The 76 have served us well over the years by getting APS every 3 years or so and banking/borrowing. And we have "blue card benefits" as we are grandfathered in. Last May we spent a week at Vero Beach and really fell in love with the resort. We see ourselves as becoming more beach oriented and less WDW oriented (and quite frankly Disney is pushing us this way with recent changes). We're in process now of closing on 65 points bought resale which would allow us 5 nights in a 1-bd room every other year during the time we'd typically travel (May or September). But now we're considering purchasing maybe another 100 or so more points that would allow us a 2 Bedroom, every year or even a beach cottage every other year. But if I did so, we would likely sell off the BWV points as I don't want dues to get out of hand. (And VB are higher) I recognize I'd give up the blue card benefits if I did that. We're thinking we would do WDW a lot less frequently, but would still have the option. We're fine with whatever resort we could get at a 7 month window. Those are the things I"ve considered so far - just wanted to put this out there and see if others might have perspectivess - Pros or Cons I might not have considered. Would I be better off keeping the BWV and just using those points at VB? (which I know would only be 7 month) Add on a smaller amount at VB? I know there are trade-offs no matter which way I go - just trying to see if I've thought of them all.

Thanks!

Do you want to go to Vero Beach in May/September? If so have you looked at 7 month availability, especially for the cottages? If you really want to go to VB and are ok with the maintenance costs then the question becomes whether you need 11 month prioritization to get what you want. VB points are cheap vs. BWV even though a lot of that difference is made up in higher annual fees. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in blue card benefits at the moment.

I think you might regret selling your BWV. You'll never get them again or that blue card without paying for 150 direct points ouch! We love and own VBR as well with one subsidized contract (50) and one that just passed ROFR. It is 95 points and loaded with '20, '21, '22 and '23 at $75 we couldn't pass it up. Just add on to VBR and forget about the MF's. Compared to paying for hotels you can't beat it!

I saw a VBR subsidized listed today. There are lots of small contracts out there... Good luck!

Thanks for the perspective - Would you be willing to share where you saw the subsidized one? As a small subsidized one might do the trick. I tried to PM you, but can't figure out how. I'm not sure if it's because I'm "new". I think I accidentally signed up with a different username last year, as I just noticed it is showing I joined then I've been around miuch longer. Any any case, Thanks! Maybe you could PM me?

Would you consider renting out your BW points but keep the contract for blue card benefits? That should more than offset the dues. You could probably even come to some sort of arrangement where you transfer the 76 points each year.

fidelityresales.com I would certainly confirm with the broker, but the MF's reflect the subsidized rate. Good luck!

Unlike the WDW DVC, VB has a LOT of competition. I would be spending a lot of time on TUGS and seeing if some other timeshare is a better fit for this kind of trip. It's clear that the off-site resorts haven't been Disney's focus for a long time, and there are a whole lot of very nice Florida timeshares on the beach. Heck, head to Redweek and rent one somewhere. There are plenty at any price point and with amenities VB might not have. DVC might not be the best choice.

BW points to use at VB is close to the worst combinations I can think of. If you want SAP, buy (or rent) SAP. Now is definitely a good time to sell BW, if you aren't going to WDW anymore. BW is priced really high, and it's running out of time. If you're traveling off-peak Vero, you might even be able to rent last-minute distressed points, when WDW is totally sold out.

If you are done with WDW, the Blue Card isn't very useful to you anyway. Even if you were, there's not many Blue Card perks to be had right now.

For so few points and an occassional, offpeak trip to WDW, I'd do Swolphin for a few nights and sell the BW.

You need at least 10 posts to use the DISboards Conversation System (aka PM or DM). As I type, ypu only have 7. This thread will tell you more :
