Personal protection~ Do you carry it? Thoughts?

What kind of personal protection do you carry?

  • Concealed gun

  • Mace/Pepper spray

  • Taser gun

  • Stun gun

  • A knife

  • Nothing. I could probably use it, but it intimidates me.

  • Nothing. I don't feel like I need it where I live.

I'm probably going to add a poll to this.

Recently in my area (a small city) there have been some more instances of crime closer to me. There was a murder committed in a nearby city, and the killer lived only 1 mile from me. Then there was a body found in the river inlet near my apartment, and finally on Wednesday there was an armed robbery in the apartment complex next door to mine. I'm contemplating buying personal protection.

Do you carry personal protection? I'm thinking about either a concealed weapon, a taser or stun gun, or mace/pepper spray. It's a little intimidating to think of, but something I think is finally necessary.

What do YOU think?? :Pinkbounc

(for those who don't know- a taser gun looks like a gun and shoots out probes which come in contact with the person at a distance of about 15 feet, a stun gun is a hand-held device with two probes on it that you actually have to touch the person with)

He has a license to carry, and will carry it at certain times, like collecting the rent and such!

LOL...I thought this was a poll about condoms by reading the title....since I don't believe in anyone carrying a gun I would have to answer no to it now that I opened the thread and see its not about condoms!

Nope all illegal to carry here, well it is for a member of the public, but the Police can carry certain items but only when on duty.

I think I would move!

I don't carry anything (nor do I really feel the need to). Mace is illegal here, as is a concealed weapon. Not sure about the other stuff, but my feeling is that the perpetrator would probably use whatever I had against me.

Both my DH and I took the Concealed Handgun Licensure course last week.

I don't own a gun yet, but I will carry one when my license comes in. I work in some pretty bad areas.

No, I don't carry anything since it's very safe where I live. But if I moved to a bad neighborhood, you'd better believe I'd carry mace; my body is a weapon but not that good of a weapon!

Cant choose more than one option? Does that mean I have to leave some of my weapons at home?

ooohhhh, THAT kind of protection :teeth: nope...oh great, now you all know you can take me :teeth:

That's next for me.

In our CHG class, we actually learned more about avoiding the use of a gun and the liability involved, than how to shoot.

The statistics on how fast you'd have to draw your gun to avoid someone coming at your with a knife where pretty shocking!

While I don't expect to get my black-belt in karate, I'd sure like to know some basic self-defense moves.

it would take *a lot* for me to want to carry a concealed weapon.

generally i do not feel that carrying any kind of concealed weapon is very helpful. in most situations i can think of, i doubt i could access it in time for it to be useful. it's hard enough for me to find my keys in my purse!

I carry a gun ( yes it is legal for me) its under the seat . No I dont need it where I live but sometimes I need it when I am alone at night in the dark feeding horses .
If my DH is with me I never worry but once I was alone at dark and someone I never say before came up to the barn where I had my horses and asked me for a cany bar. FREAKED me out and I never forgot it . put that Glok under the seat and never went without it again .

I can only speak for myself, but I won't be carrying one in my purse. If I ever feel the need to carry it on the job, it'll be in a custom fanny pack, made just for that purpose.

I have to go into vacant houses, quite often by myself. In really bad areas, some of these have been broken into and used by prostitutes, or even worse, turned into crack houses. (I specialize in foreclosed properties)

Nobody goes into them to make sure they're safe. I'm the first one in and I never know what to expect. Other times, I'm in those same areas, but I'm doing surveillance-type work from my car.

The majority of the time, I'm in perfectly safe areas. I don't want to give the impression that I lead this secret 007 lifestyle - but my job does have its moments.

I fought long and hard against carrying one, and decided to for personal reasons. I'm sure it's not for everyone, or every state for that matter, but for a lot of people it's a safety issue.

I don't carry any protection, but if I sit on you, you're toast. :smooth:

I thought the same thing when I read the title. :lmao:

I used to carry mace when I went to school downtown, but I don't carry anything anymore.
