Personal information given when calling Member Services?

I'm finalizing a point rental agreement with a DVC member and I am trying to follow the best practices posted in another subforum for handling the deal. It suggests doing a three-way call so that I can hear the reservation being made and get the onfirmation number directly. The person I am working with declined this request on the basis of personal information that they need to give to the DVC people to book the room. I'm wondering if this is true. What kind of personal details could they give out? Maybe a credit card number to pay the booking fee?

When I call, I have to give them our Membership Number, my name, last 4 digits of my SSN, address and phone number.

If you are on the phone with them when they verify their membership, you would have everything necessary to call yourself and pretend to be them.

I've never heard of that. It really doesn't mean anything, the member could call back and cancel the reservation so there's no protection by doing this.

There's no booking fee for DVC resorts.

You either trust the owner or you don't. You should have a contract and references that you can check to verify the track record and history of the owner.

The reservation info is available online for you to verify but that doesn't mean that the owner can't cancel the reservation at any time.

Exactly. The way around this is for the owner to conference you in after they've done this with the MS rep.

I can't say I've heard of a 3 way call being recommended for a reservation. Perhaps a transfer but as was mentioned it would mean no more than getting the confirmation number and checking online. It may be a very old recommendation back to the time when you couldn't verify online.

Personally, if I were the owner I'd also be disinclined to do this.

I've heard of using a three-way call when adding the dining plan, but only because the renter needs to provide the payment method. Never heard of it for the initial booking. That should probably be handled on the website, anyway.

Good advice all around. I didn't think about trying to impersonate a dvc member. I was wary when they initially refused but I now see there's good reason to be cautious. I know that there needs to be mutual trust and they can cause issues either way - I was being reactionary to their response. I won't worry about it. I checked references and heard two good reviews from a person I can verify with a lengthy internet history and the seller's address and name checks out with a background check. I'm just paranoid.

I have rented before but a renter has never used the Dining Plan. I have rented a new reservation and the renter may add the Dining Plan. If they do this, should I do the following:

Call MS and give them my information so they have my account and the reservation.

Once this is done, shall I do a 3 way call with the renter.

Once we are all on the line, can I let MS and the renter be on the line so they can give their credit card information to purchase the Dining Plan?

I've added the ME on my own on the website.

Would this work?

As a DVC member who has rented I wouldn't do this either. When the member books you get a confirmation number you can I out into MDE and see your booking, that really is all you need.

To follow up on this, I resolved my trust issues and asked for just an email from disney. I got the confirmation number from my DVC guy and I'm all set up in MDE for my first trip to WDW. Much excitement was had.
