Permit Filed: "Project M" at Hollywood Studios (Replacing GMR?)

I still can't fathom them doing anything with the Great Movie Ride until something else opens. But, if that is, in fact, what this is, and Toy Story Land does not open until next summer, there will likely be some overlap.

I will take Disney to task a little bit for gutting/closing the Great Movie Ride when they have so much dead space elsewhere on property that could be utilized (hello Future World at Epcot). While it is outdated, GMR is still a popular attraction in a park that needs attractions right now. I realize it's not like work will begin tomorrow, but it's still worth questioning whether this is actually even necessary.

That parcel ID is all of DHS. The street address does match building but also looks to include the plaza where the hat was.

The M could mean anything, they don't always make it obvious so I would not assume anything when seeing those.

The construction company on permit along with Disney Village and DHS offices, did Rock N Roller Coaster, New Fantasyland, Storybook Circus and some of Mission Space.

If that is what happens I agree - though they could start work on prepping area and outside stuff, etc. and not close the ride until Toy Story Land opens

The biggest thing here is the expiration date of Oct. 2019. This is obviously something bigger and doesn't match the star wars permits.

Plus, unless things go horribly wrong, we know that construction will be done by then...

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed...but everyone is gonna miss the movie ride when it's gone...

Actually there's a lot of charm in the "golden age" Hollywood period that was installed in mgm...like tower of terror...it's part of the park atmosphere and it will be missed when the days come.

Careful what you wish for...

Understand your point, but by all reports Disney wants this completed on or before SWE opens, so yeah , it has to go down now.

And that would make sense...you would have a Pixar/kiddie land fully open on the opposite side to disperse the two concentrated older crowds...

Anyone wonder what they're gonna do with animation/launchbay? Seems like that's ripe for redevelopment as well...

I'm kind of with you. I'm not all that excited about a mouse ride, but GMR needs an update of some kind so it makes sense to make a move like this very soon if it's going to be done at all. If you're going to kill it, kill it while it's weak.

And it does add some fire to the "change the Tower" mentality. That is the part that scares me. Don't kill the best ride you've got in Orlando.

You haven't been eating your rumors. It's going to be part of Monsters Inc. Land. :teeth:

I will miss it. But I think they would have to update some of those movies. I would even be fine if they were all Disney movies. Too many are obscure to younger, even I who know them all could care less anymore.

I am not at all excited for a Mickey overlay. I mean it would be as we say in our house a "Tom Cruise" ride. Unless he has on makeup, Cruise just plays himself in every movie, no variation. You can change the sets all you want it will be one LONG ride of Mickey over and over again. Now if they are gutting it, putting a real ride (not tram crawl) in there, maybe. But given the short time frame I think we are getting a snooze. It all started with a mouse but it's not the mouse that carries it. I'll take your flames on that one .....

Best rumors I've seen, which I don't believe, Monster Inc "land" which can go deep in and connect with RnR aka Monster Inc Door Coaster .... just a little backstage to move but it could work. RnR is apart from Sunset, take out those bathrooms and easy walk that direction. But then again Playhouse Disney (such a temp feel), LM was always supposed to be temporary although I love the stage (Moana please), Walt's Dream .... I think the whole chunk is at risk when the other lands open.

I only wish they weren't so narrow minded with this TSL. WHY didn't they continue with Pixar Place? They could have mixed and matched TSL right up through Animation Courtyard some of Disney's best movies ever. Incredibles? Cars? Monster's Inc. TS all fit. Some of the other biggies fit in other parks.

I agree, I enjoy that front of the park vibe. GMR was part of that

Tbh if they changed tower I'd stop riding it. Especially if it was guardians (although that rumors kinda faded away)
