I am hoping that somebody out there can help me out. I want to purchase the Canadian resident tickets for my mother and I but I worry about the redemption issue. From all the reports that I have read people have been using their passport as id for proof of Canadian residency. Here's the wrinkle, I am a Canadian and have a Canadian passport but my mother is an American who has been living as a permanent resident in Canada since 1982. Her passport is American but she has a permanent resident card for Canada. Her driver's license also has her address listed as being in Canada.

From what I can tell she should qualify for the Canadian "resident" ticket but I worry they may say it is not valid at the point of redemption as she doesn't have a Canadian passport. Has anybody here been able to redeem their Canadian tickets using their driver's license as it has your home address listed on it or has anybody else out there used a permanent resident card?

Thanks for any input or advice!

I think a combination of her permanent resident card and driver's license should be sufficient as the requirement isn't that you must a Canadian just a resident of Canada. Her nationality is American but she is a resident of Canada.

I would call just to be certain before you spend the $$$

Some people have been able to use their driver's license but it is hit-and-miss and may depend on the CM you encounter. However, if you look at the website, all you need is government issued ID. I would print out what is on the website and bring it with you.

Item(s) are priced for Canada residents only. Savings compared to the price a non-Canadian resident will pay for the same ticket. All adult Guests who will use Canada resident tickets or passes must present valid proof of Canadian residency that includes a government-issued photo ID prior to first use. If the Guest selects Will Call as the delivery method, adult Guests must present valid proof of Canadian residency that includes a government-issued photo ID to exchange the Will Call certificate for a valid ticket at the theme park window or Guest Relations prior to first use. Offer is valid for advance purchase only and is not available at Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket windows.

I actually contacted Disney on this exact issue as I'm a permanent resident of Canada but with a British passport.

Here was their reply:

'Thank you for contacting Walt Disney World Ticketing.

Upon arrival, Canadian Resident Promotional Tickets must be activated
prior to first use in person at any Theme Park Ticket Windows or Disney
Springs Guest Relations. All Guests must bring and present a valid
Canadian passport. For residents of Canada who are not Canadian
citizens, they must bring a valid passport and valid proof of Canadian
residency.'

FWIW - When we got there I wasn't asked to show anything. My Canadian husband just showed his passport and they activated both of our tickets.

Interesting. I'm a Canadian citizen but no longer a Canadian resident. I still have my Canadian passport (Canada is my only citizenship, so unless I'm traveling for work, I travel on that passport). By the sounds of it, I could use these tickets, despite not being a Canadian resident?

It's kind of ridiculous that Disney wants a Canadian passport as proof of residency when in fact a passport does not reflect the residency status of the owner.

I bought tickets last year during the sale. I live in the US, but have a Canadian Passport! I went to disney springs and got the tickets activated by showing my passport! I now have them stored in MDE for a future trips!

Brit here

We "activated" our tickets with our PR cards at Disney Springs on Dec 24th (only our PR cards, no passport or licence)
Waited around 20mins for a CSR to call our name then around 5 mins to complete the process
We received physical tickets (we remembered tea bags, envelopes for mousekeeping, cereal bars etc but somehow forgot our Magic Bands for the our last trip)

Thanks so much! Glad to know there were others in this same situation that were able to activate these tickets with no problem.

I agree that it seems odd that a passport is seen as "proof" of residency as it does nothing of the sort!
