I'm considering purchasing DVC. I went to the presentation while at WDW and they gave me a lot of information on the point system, etc, but there is nothing that tells me the perks of ownership. I know you get $100 off AP's but does that also include AP renewal? I'm not buying DVC because of the perks but I'm just curious.

Annual Pass:
$100 off adult ticket
$88 off child ticket

AP Renewal:
$90 off adult renewal
$79 off child renewal

Premium Annual Pass:
$125 off adult ticket
$111 off child ticket

PAP Renewal:
$109 off adult renewal
$95 off child renewal

In addition to the AP perk, there are some dining discounts and shopping discouts at DtD. Also there are some "tour" discounts, like Segway Tour, MK Train Tour, diving at Living Seas, etc. These can and do change. You will be given at current list when you check-in.

Free valet parking, at DVC resorts that offer valet parking, is a perk.

Just remember the perks are just that and are not guaranteed. They could all be eliminated tomorrow. With a couple of specific exceptions, it would not be reasonable to buy counting the perks as part of the value.

One of the Better DTD Perks is 20% off food bill at House of Blues. Great Food ! (no discount on liqour)...... Have Fun !

I think the best perks are the nice rooms, the variety of places to stay on property, the transportation system and the ability to get away from the crowds if you want to. Our first few times at Disney we stayed in cheap hotels(yuk!), we paid for parking, if someone got sick or was tired, we all had to leave(what a hassle) and getting lost in town and getting into a fight with my spouse because we were stressed out. You really are on vacation when you stay at one of the DVC's. After a busy day at one of the parks the last thing I want to do is get stuck in another crowd. :wave2:

Sounds like you have the right approach....happy to get the perks but not basing your purchase decision on them.

I think the AP discount is probably the best perk, because then the AP gets you additional perks. It qualifies you to purchase a Disney Dining Experience card for $60 that gets you 20% off many restaurants at WDW.

Another perk DVC extended recently was the ability to join in the Disney Dining Plan. Either way, the DVC membership enabled some other nice discounts as well. :)

:confused3 Where does the discount on rooms come in? I can't find anything in the member handbook on that. What/where are they, how much and is it just at certain times. Can you supplement a points trip with a discounted cash trip?

It is a 25% discount off rack rate at DVC resorts, subject to availability. Rooms for this discount are booked through member services, and the member must be an occupant of the room.

I asked this same question, with the same intent, I knew I was buying, but wanted to know if there was anything else. Disney DVC rep was EXTREMEL vague- other than the AP discount- so I had to put it this way- "lets imagine Ill be arriving tomorrow, what kinds of discounts are going on now" even then he was vague. So I call TTS.
There are no promises and I think they (DVC) are apprehensive to list what they offer, and then change it in 6 months. As a member you receive an email that talks about various "perks" that might be available. Cirque for example offers a 20-25% discount off tickets, but that could change next week, month, year, etc. DVC does offer limited food discounts that seem to be continuous, like 10% off at a specific restaurant for lunch M-F at non peak periods, or something like that.

As AP owners I got the Dining Card (which was only $50 last year) and it made a HUGE difference!

Im in the process of buying DVC now and learning the ins and outs. My sales rep, Robert at TTS forwarded his email to let me see the types of things they tell DVC members about monthly.

Every time you stay at a DVC they leave a pamphlet with all the perks that you get. They do change pretty often so it's tough to tell you something specifically right now. The best perk is the AP discount. And if you're anything like us, after we got our AP's we made a few extra trips to use them. So we definitely got our $$'s worth and then some.
