What various kinds of perks does DVC give out during their sales presentations? We just got 4 passes for free meals - but I've read where some get free park passes? free nights of stays? Just curious what others have been enticed by? ? ?

I didn't get anything like that. I did get a tote bag, and a pen.

The reason we bought from DVD was purely convenience. It is just too easy to just pick up the phone, and order up a use year.

There is money to be saved buying resale, but in my opinion, not enough to justify the hassle.

...you stole the pen. The guide stepped out with your credit ap and you told the DW to stick it in her purse. Free pens .... get real !!

Thank you for the super serious replys everyone. I guess I'm lucky to have gotten dinner.

We got nothing other then the tote bag with the materials. But we never took the tour or presentation.

PKay, my response was absolutely serious.

We got the tote bag for the materials and 8 Fast Pass's (for the 4 of us) No meal, no speedo's. Dang.

when we added on May 5 at DVC (BWV) we both got pens with Disney vacation club inscribed on them.:smooth: :smooth:

Geezz.....I'm starting to think I made off with the one we used to sign. :teeth:

I don't remember a pen, its possible, but we did get a tote bag and a free ice cream sundea....both time, first deal and the add on in '93.

Oh thank God you got the pens!!
I was beginning to think that Viking was right, and I am nothing more than DVC's biggest klepto... :(

PKay,

The free passes you may have heard about were probably the ones given to buyers in the early to mid 90's... they got park passes for members of their party staying in the DVC accommodations until '00, if I understand correctly.

In recent years all most people have gotten is a free lunch at Big River Grille after the presentation, the aforementioned pen and tote bag, and maybe luggage tags, as well.

After buying VB in '00, we received lithographs of VWL and later BCV around the time they opened, and also received pins - a VWL pin, then a pair of stars & stripes Mickeys after 9/11.

 Now guys, let's not have any speedo talk! ;)

We took 3 tours in 7 years before we were finally able to buy. The first time we got a picture of us and a sundae, the second time was snacks and beverage, and the last time was fast passes for 1 or 2 rides.
I don't think you missed out on something the rest of us got. I remember reading 3-4 years ago that some people who actually purchased were able to use their points immediately for their current stay (?they might have had to move to a DVC property), but don't believe there was anything 'free' about it.
Disney doesn't NEED to entice.
Oooops, I take that back --- a few years ago, there were some ridiculously inexpensive rates at HH in the winter if you took the DVC tour. Something like $99/night for a 2 BR, and you might have even gotten the 4th night free. I'm not aware of any offers like that for on-site properties.
And, as mentioned, the early sales of OKW included a certain amount of park passes, depending on the size room you booked, until the year 2000. This was part of the purchase, not handed out because someone took the tour.

Thanks for the responses! Maybe the person who told me of all the park tickets, golf outings, etc. was stretching the truth! Anyway, I'm getting comfortable with our purchase (it doesn't close until June 11th) - we never took a tour or even talked about membership until we decided to see what it was about. We were really impressed and by the sounds of it we'll be happy we made the choice we did. I can't wait until Saratoga Springs comes though, we lived there for three years and it'll be neat to see how they replicate the city.

:)

You know, I seem to remember that some of the early pre-opening BCV buyers did get some sort of Deluxe hotel rooms.
This may have been in place of Magical Beginnings, but perhaps an early BCVer could shed some light......

As an incentive to purchase BCV points before the resort opened, purchasers were given the choice of an extra $5/point off the price or a number of nights in specified resorts for certain periods of time. We took the $5 off. The more points you bought, the more free nights you got. So what we got was similar to MB without losing the points. But we had to start paying dues in July before we technically were able to get our points (Sept use year).

When we bought OKW, we got the bag. When we bought more OKW, we got more OKW. When we bought VWL, we got pens and a lithograph. When we bought BCV, we got $5 off and a lithograph.

Plus all the good cotton candy and saltwater taffy at the sales office.

We received a 7 night stay and a 3 night stay at our choice of deluxe resorts (we used it for The Polynesian and Beach Club), a picture and we got to keep our points.... That was last year for BCV.... For our add on at BWV, I think we are going to get a backpack, but we didn't get any pen. (hmmmm... :) )

-DC :)
